  1. Let me introduce myself, I'm Brian Hornung, President of Vintage Host [the company that hosts these forums]. I am looking for a talented PHP/MySQL/etc. (more languages definitely a plus) developer with an entrepreneurial spirit and a great attitude (and personality) -- preferably someone currently in college or high school -- for an initial medium sized project (paid, somewhat of a freelance job), but several profitable projects thereafter. I am looking for a long term, profitable relationship with this developer. The initial project includes, but is not limited to the following (Due to the requirement for confidentiality in all of my projects, I am not able to relea…

We have finished most part of the forums and galleries, etc, and are at the moment writing experiment directions. Please take a look at it, and give me as much feedbacks as possible. Regards.

  3. I have just completed my website, and it will be launched on December 1st, 2005. It is sort of like a experiments community where people can share ideas about scientific experiments. Please give me some suggestions as to what sort of thing I should have on it, what types of topics, etc. The site is during its testing stage. I would like to create a scientific site that is fun, and can benefit everyone. And of course it would just be a waste of time to recreate another scienceforums.net. So guys, please give me some creative ideas.

A friend of mine wants to build or buy a seismograph and I said I would help him. He wants to detect earth tremors and display them on a computer in real time. So, some questions. 1. Is there an internet site that you could use someone elses sensor to produce charts on your computer? Similar to how you can hook yourself up to webcams all over the US. 2. Where can we get some inexpensive sensors. 3. Is there a link to a build your own sensor that is reliable? I have some links, but I would like some more input.... Thanks Bettina

This is just an awkward fascination of mine, but I almost always find people let the most strange things pile up in an around their desk. I know for a fact my dad keeps a framed picture of R2D2 next to baby photos, and someone I work with loves to drip candle wax in colorful patterns all over his desk for reasons only the divine goddess could know. Heres some things I have: - a pink stegosaurus beanie-baby on my monitor, his special power is proofreading spreadsheet formulas and being adorable - a really odd book on how Jesus will rapture the earth in the year 2012 that my mom gave to me as (I hope) a joke - a sketch of Hello Kitty that is obviously in my ha…

I'm 15 and interested in Science, I'm slowly learning one or two things within my fields of interest (Mainly Cosmology, and Physics in general); but when I come to this forum I look around and I'm overwhelmed with some of the knowledge you guys have. What I want to know is were you very smart all of your life or did you just persevere and learn? I want to know this because I'm interested in Science but I don't know if I could have a future in it.

Does anyone have a list of websites that have educational science videos? I've discovered Nova and learner.org, but I'm wondering about other websites people have come across in their educational journey.

Keeping up with the need for a "super hero" type in the world now-a-days is tough. Our sports heroes are as close as we get, but is mother nature keeping up with public demands? Should we ban, or simply regulate steriod use as an enchancement drug?

A game I think you'll like: http://www.conquerorgame.com/ It's a turn based strategy a lot like risk but with a few new dimensions. In addition to placing troops, you also have farms, castles, taxes, culture and diplomats. It's more confusing at first, but if you play a few games and read the rules, you get the hang of it pretty fast.

Hi All, Thought I would let you know about a very interesting project that is going on at the moment on the Delmarva Peninsula in southeast Virginia. This is a joint venture between ICDP (International Continental Scientific Drilling Program) and USGS. The core well is being drilled very near the center of the crater in Eyreville, VA. Here is a site where you can keep up with current progress: http://www.icdp-online.de/sites/chesapeake/news/news1.html I have visited the site twice. The first time I was there, on Oct 7, the were around 2,900 feet. I spoke with Lucy Edwards, USGS palynologist, and David Powars, one of the discoverers of the crater ( the…

http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20051031/nasacuts_spa.html Apparently all science experiments scheduled for the International Space Station have been cancelled by NASA. Ostensibly this is only until "the space station is completed". But NASA has already stated that the 2010 Shuttle retirement deadline, which was originally chosen because that was the prediction for how long it would take to complete ISS, will now be enforced regardless of the status of ISS. Meanwhile NASA is underfunded and USGov is backing away from new deals for Russian space launches. IMO this is just more evidence that we've *already* seen the last shuttle launch we'll ever see.

As the title says, what is your idea of a perfect humanity? How do you envision the human race at it's best? Since I'll be copying/pasting most of my ideas from another board, first I'll say a few relevant things I mentioned in other topics at that board: First off, I believe in the importance of the large-scale over the importance of the small scale. In terms of humanity as it relates to this topic, the success and/or prosperity of humanity as a whole is far more important than the success and/or prosperity of an individual or community. It is because of this that I am against religion. While religion may provide support for the individual or believing community,…

  23. Hi, ive been thinking about signs, road signs / warning signs etc and how intuitive they are. Most signs afford some kind of meaning in the graphic they represent, for example a flammable sign is a flame, and irritant is a cross (implying, dont mess about with it). The picture has at least a partial meaning to the message it is trying to represent, i am stuck on why the "radioactive" sign is what it is, what is it meant to be and why? does anyone know? cheers Smommer

The guy got a arrested and his computer confisgated, the forensics team found a like to my friends website and now hes in the hell for it too... his dreams of setting up a pyrotechnics company are all but useless now becuase hes being tried for assisted terrorism charges!
