Hello, I was wondering if it's at all possible to change your User ID name on these forums, or if it would be worth me just creating a new profile with my desired ID name? Which brings me to my second question: I forget how the user titles thingy works, are you able to create a custom title after a certain amount of time being registered on the forums - or do you have to have contributed a certain number of posts before custom status becomes "unlocked"?

the time was about 2:05 AM central time and the first was in the southern sky, the second was in the east northeast, and the third was straight east. The second and third were close to simultaneous. Has anyone heard of a meteor shower or anything like that? I hadn't seen any more before, and I didn't see any after. It seemed like an isolated event.

The period of invention has past.During the period of invention ,inventors and scirentists invented many kinds of things like cars ,spaceships, planes, telephones etc. IN the 21st century , the time for improvement and make changes. WE should stop inventing things and start to make the foundation of science stronger!

http://www.fsffrance.org/news/article2005-11-25.en.html Are they actually suggesting to get rid of open source? What about companies like Novell or IBM? Wouldn't the bill be specifically designed to remove these companies from France? This truly amazes me. How can anybody be so stupid? And wouldn't this be unenforceable? Frech developers could just distribute their software on servers outside of France.

Hi there everyone! I was bored today so I threw together a little script that calculates the Mr of any compound, it can be found here: http://www.allscience.spiralmindsinc.com/Testing/ChemCalc.php It works with compound formats: H2O 2H2O Hg(NO3)2 Hg(NO3)2.2H2O The last one is still 50/50 - I'm not shure if it works correctly yet. Or any combination of the above, please try it out and any feedback is welcome (Note, I threw this together in about half an hour so it probably has bugs ) Cheers, Ryan Jones

Hello all, I am looking for some advice as to which I should Major and Minor in between Physics and Engineering. My dream is to be able to work on new space technologies for satelites, probes, space shuttles ect. Basically anything that advances the space program. Do you think I am better off majoring in Physics and minoring in Engineering or vice versa?

Has anyone else seen this article? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6940417 How cool, $25,000 to tell the USAF that a Star Trek style transporter "The concept of transporting any large amount of matter is highly impractical and looks to be highly impractical well into the future." Heck, I could have told them that. I like the blokes style in his recommendations though. For a mere say 75,000 of that, I'll keep track of the Aussie research.

I read in a book once, einstein when he was youNg had a question,''IF WE HAD A SMALL MIRROR IN OUR HAND AND WERE TRAVELLING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, WE LOOKED AT THE MIRROR HOPING FOR A REFLECTION, WHAT WOULD WE SEE?'' As reflection itself is light travelling at 3,00,000 kms/sec, is it possible for a reflection.

Creation doesn't cut it, dudes. The universe evolved!!! Around 1836---judging from his notebooks---Darwin figured out an evolutionary process capable of explaining why all these species, and thus he saved God the trouble of having to create them one at a time. The analogous puzzle in our day is why the universe has all these numbers which seem to be "just right" in a certain vague sense. The most familiar example is the strength of electromagnetic interaction which is 1/137 in natural units. Longlived stars, the chemical elements, life chemistry, all depend on this being just what it is and not a percent off. An evolutionary mechanism has been discovere…

I've been thinking about supposed IQ tests that are used to test "intelligence". What do they really test? My point is this: intelligence, as I see it, is the ability to solve a problem in an unknown situation using the tools and knowledge one has. IQ tests have all these questions which, to a large extent, are composed of maths (or math for the Americans) and language questions. But these things are a matter of education. One can be taught to do well in an IQ test. But what if someone off the street, who has had no education, takes an IQ test, and can't answer 2+2, merely because he or she has never been taught maths. That person's results would be awful, and…
