Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

We've all heard the coinage "Free Energy" and "Unlimited Energy" and we've all made the same face that you're probably making right now. Yep, that's the one! Well, dont worry, I'm not here to pedal my "latest and greatest" nor am I asking you to buy anything. All I ask is that you read the following with an open mind and comment on it with an open mind. Flamers and trolls need not apply. In 1901 Nikola Tesla won 2 patent for "Apparatus for the Utilization of Radiant Energy" and "Method of Utilizing Radiant Energy." The following is a detailed explanation of this system and how it works. I'm sure many of you have come across this before and if not, I though…

the sun weighs 2*10^30 kg. the energy in the gravitational field of a proton is 10^36 times less than the energy in the electric field of a proton. the temperature of the surface of the sun is 5800 k the temperature at the center of the sun is 15,000,000 k the energy output of a blackbody increases with the fourth power of temperature (15,000,000/5800)^4=4.5*10^13 the density at the center of the sun is 150 times that of water. the energy required to heat the corona is 1/40,000th the total output of the sun. we assume that gravity waves are transmitted at c. we assume that gravity waves once emitted are not reabsorbed (in the body of the sun) to any significant d…

I am impressed with authoring on Warp Engines, but would like to offer an alternative of what I see as a dark matter engine - Dark Matter Engine . It is conceptual, and does not assume warping, light speed or otherwise. It it summerized as follows - "To create and manipulate a Black Body Radiator within a chamber in order to create propulsion from directing its radiation. Within the engine's chamber, a heating element ( based on design ) is used with the absolute cold of space. This is to create the black body radiator within the chamber. The radiation from the radiator is to be compressed and directed magnetically to faciliate a direction of heat flow of the hea…

Posting it here because it does seem to be a huge speculation. I read it and the series of conclusions seemed a little odd to me, and it does at least state clearly it's pretty speculative. Anyone have any thoughts - is this actually possible? http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20126911.300-our-world-may-be-a-giant-hologram.html?full=true&print=true

Using mathematical models to help prove a theory is a way to break down the logic of what the brain has already discovered. It is a test for finding errors in thought. I beleive it's possible, although improbable, that somebody out there may be able to use common everyday observations to leap to ground-breaking implications for physics without first doing anything with math (because the brain has already done this as a part of it's innate abilities). Therefore, for a few people math may be more of a hinderance than a tool for making progress (because math is slow and akward). It is also noteworthy to mention that few people with great mathematical proficien…

EXISTANCE BEFORE & AFTER DEATH BY SUHAIL JALBOUT The first “Thinking Man”, the Cro-Magnon, appeared on our planet Earth around 35000 B.C. and then he was followed by modern man. Since our universe is 14 billion years old, it implies that it took an extremely long time to create an optimal being, modern man. It is quite possible that intelligent life may have been created elsewhere in the universe, possibly even before modern man on Earth, but no one yet can confirm or deny such existence. This means that modern man is the cream of creation since he appeared last. The question that follows is: Why the life span of modern man is so very short relative to the…

I was at a folk dance when my eureka moment came. When the MC announced the next dance some of us did not find a partner before taking to the floor. He said, "Pair off," then he could instantly see that one set was missing several men, and called for extras. My sudden realization was this could apply to atoms and specifically the question: How does an atom count exactly the right number of electrons to confer neutrality? Conventionally the nucleus has a net positive charge acting at a point and diffusely attracts all the electrons in the vicinity. Electrons arrange themselves into shells according to the aufbau principle, and the periodic table is the result. Thi…

I like to think of our universe a a membrane that exists in a higher dimension. I read a great example in a book my michio kaku, that goes like this. Imagine a 2 dimensional creature living on a sphere. He can wander around all of his life on the sphere, and never find an edge, because a sphere doesn't have an edge in 2 dimensions. but that doesn't mean that there is no limit to their universe. We may be in a similar situation, with other universal membranes floating in a " multiverse" of other universes beyond ours, all with their own isolated laws of physics and mabey even other life forms.

Since force is dynamic I've been wondering why gravity is called a force. Something like: F = ma <---dynamic since it involves acceleration F = GMm/R² <---static since no motion is involved Shouldn't it be: Tension = GMm/R²

OK, I will share a few ideas that have been passing in and out of my mind over the last few years. Please feel free to respond, because as of yet, I have not found anybody that is capable of discussing this with me. 1. The speed of light is not a constant: because gravity and time are proportional. Areas of deep space would have a low time effect which would allow light to pass at astonishing speeds relative to outside of this area, even though within the area of low gravity light is moving at it's classicly observed speed. This effect would appear to shorten the distance traveled, even though the distance is huge. It's very similar to a worm-hole, but it has a tr…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_circulation#Latitudinal_circulation_features The wind belts and the girdling the planet are steered by three cells: the Hadley cell, the Ferrel cell, and the Polar cell (the interpretation of the latter two is complex). it is my understanding that during most of earths history that air rose at the equator and sank at the pole in one continuous cell and that it was very much warmer. there was no ice at the poles.. further I can see no reason why one couldnt have just 2 cells. so it seems to me that the earth could have 3 different climates. one with 3 cells like today. one with 2 cells. and one with only one cell. now…

Let me present my theory about gravity: Big bang made of a space a vacuum. Same thing happens when a bomb detonates - there's a mere part of time when explosion pushes surrounding air and particles out of center of explosion, creating almost a vacuum (lets say it does create it because conditions of any explosion on earth aren't perfect). So on same principle universe is expanding - like never ending explosion that is pushing all most out all of particles, leaving in it only few and a lot of vacuum space. ok, now let's go on gravity: over past few years, geological studies has shown that all planets are expanding over time. Since those expandings aren't product o…

Do you remember Eistein predict a very small gravity wave when particle collide that is pretty much useless? Well, gravity is a pulse force of particle collision. That means the vibration of matter on earth is what creates gravity. Gravity pulse 90 degree perpendicular to the mass velocity and it's an instantaneous puse. When you swing a mass in circle and let it go tangently. You release a gravity pulse when the centripetal force suddenly came to zero. I'm very unhappy with the world being today. Do you or do you not want to move on to the new age? Do you want pepetual machine to exist or not? No wonder you made him so angry.

According to Darwins theory, man evolved from flora and fiona. Now, the big problem here, is that 1 flora + 1 fiona = 2 units. So far, all is going fine. The 5 foot old gentleman with a 6 foot beard, and a two ton brain, Mr C. Darwin, laughs at this young upstart trying to upset his beautifully constructed theories. But now, we come to the tiny little parts that just wont fit in with this idea…2 UNITS?? HOW CAN THERE HAVE BEEN 2???? According to science, everything, absolutely EVERYTHING, evolved from flora and fiona. That includes the concept of numbers!!! HIS THEORY CLAIMS THAT, AN OBJECT EXISTED BEFORE IT DID, A PARADOXICAL IDEA!!! THUS THAT OLD GENT IN TH…

i recently read a book on aliens and other mysteries of the unexplained and in most of the cases, the aliens "spoke" to abductees. no i picked up on a strange fact instantly...y. how the heck would an alien speak english??? they developed on another planet so they would have a different language system (if they communicate through sound at all) so i pose this question... how would an alien speak english???(other than watching us for millenia and learning our language)

I do not understand why people always say that circular logic is invalid. After all linear logic requires that the logic has to be based on something before it, and something before that, and something before that, and on forever. Unless you assume that there is an infinite chain of logic supporting whatever logical happenstance is occuring, then the only way for logic to work is if it is circular. Or maybe square, or any other connected shape. I have no pineapple. I buy pineapple. I eat pineapple. Triangular logic!!!! Yea I originally actually thought I might have been right but…

Some physicists believe in the possibility of instant time travels. Let's assume hypothetically something much simpler and looking more probable - that physics of four-dimensional spacetime we are living in, allows for microscopic loops which include time dimension. If they would have at least microseconds and we could amplify/measure them (Heisenberg uncertainty principle...), we could send some information back in time. Observe that computers based on such loop could instantly find fixed point of given function: Let's take for example some NP-problem - we can quickly check if given input is correct, but there is huge (but finite) number of possible inputs. So th…

Hi. I'm new to these forums, and I just joined because I have a lot of curiosity, and I'm not exactly the best scientist in the world, so go easy on me I've a bit of a "theory" (I'm sure I'm not the first...) about free will, and why I doubt it's existence. I'd like to see if I'm right, and if not, what part of my theory I went wrong in. Here's the idea. First off, nothing is really random, correct? Like, if you hit a pool ball on a pool table from X angle with Y amount of force, you would be able to calculate EXACTLY where it would end up. Right? Thus making it not random? Now, if nothing is random in that sense, wouldn't it be the same inside the brain on a…
