Just a reminder... If you are feeling particularly helpful at any time, there is in the "New Posts" drop-down menu a link that will show you all Unanswered Threads. Good for killing boredom when "new posts" fails to inspire, and catching posts of interest which you may have missed.

I am curious if there is a process in place to appeal a staff member's decision. I've looked at the rules and announcements, but have not found anything. I've had far too many posts deleted in response to one specific staff member, threats of infraction, and actual infractions levied for comments or questions to one staff member. It seems this member is using their ability to delete threads only when a comment is made toward them, and it seems inappropriate since none of my posts to others have warranted deletion. I am consistent in my method and tone, and it's not been a problem with others, so I'd like more of a "trial by jury" than "execution by governor." I…

I will make a reply here, seems more appropriately. ... esspecailly as Martin is not infact a mod ... Yes, according to the Staff list Martin is one of the Resident Experts and not a Moderator. But "Modern and Theoretical Physics" clearly states: "Moderators:2 swansont, Martin", (to the right at the bottom). Newcomers like vincent might easily get confused... I suggests that links to the Staff list, the Members list and the Forum Rules is added in the "Site Navigation". Staff list: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showgroups.php Members list: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/memberlist.php Forum Rules: http://www.scienceforums.net/fo…

And why do I have ``63''? I presume it is because I made some relevant point somewhere in some discussion, but how is it quantized? I seem to recall starting with 10? And 63-10 is 53, which is prime, so it tells me that it is not simply quantized. And is there a graph somewhere that's number of members vs. reputation?

On the front page threads aren't displayed from General Discussion or the Pseudoscience forum, which seems sensible enough, but for the same reasons shouldn't the Politics threads also not be displayed?

Seeing as this is a science-themed discussion board, why don't we start a forum for members to discuss their (peer-reviewed) publications. It could work like this: when a member publishes a paper or gives a talk at a conference, or writes a thesis or something, they can advertise it here, and link to the slides/publication, and engage the other members by answering questions, etc. They would serve as a moderator for the discussion, and the threads would be strictly professional---i.e. no flaming, trolling, etc. The moderator of the forum would have the right to delete off-topic posts. It wouldn't be a HUGE job, because (I'm assuming) there wouldn't be THAT many thr…

1. Banlist Often, when I notice a user has been banned (by the title by his name) I get curious and end up searching all of his recent posts to find out why. Some forums have a "banlist" which lists banned users, the length of and reason for ban and maybe a reference to offending post(s). 2. Firefox issue When using firefox, clicking on "New Posts" brings me instead to Search for some reason. This is rather annoying. 3. Brain Sprain I noticed that the Brain Sprain thing was abandoned with no explaination. Was this just due to lack of interest? 4. Too many sub-forums? (Just my opinion) There aren't enough posts here that all the sub-forums are needed. I th…

I looked at one of my posts and thought, "Man.. I have some writing issues in this." I was slightly tired the other day; therefore, my posts weren't on top of things. I should have made the sentence double negative; it would have been more accurate. However, I can't edit, because the ability to edit has been locked away after a certain period of time. Would it be possible for an administrator to bring the editing time up to 24 hours? If the editing time feature can not be brought up a few hours, then how much time do I have to edit?

I figured this was the right place to post this so here goes: A little while back I posted an old A level coursework on Quantum theory I did that served as an elementary introduction to the subject. I'm starting to feel like I should now produce a piece of work that could serve as a more complete introduction, but this time to relativity. I have no alterior motive this time around, I am not currently required to do such a piece of work by my department at University, I just feel it may help me out in my own understanding of the subject if I can produce a piece of work with which to explain relativity as best as I can. Do you think this will be well received? I was th…

Is anyone else finding that threads they have posts in are occasionally appearing below the line "The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts" on the search results page, even though they have new replies?
