Computer Science

  1. **I am new to this if I post into a wrong place forgive me. My question is because I don't really know what Computer science course teach you, right now I am studying HTML4, CSS, CS3, C#, C, C++, SQL, MySQL & PHP, etc at home (not from school). The main point is when I searching job on www.indeed.com and I enter one of the category above, I find out most company didn't have Bachelor degree as a requirement and the salary are very high too, is between $50,000 ~ $120,000. But one or two company did ask for Bachelor degree. And I know in college, Computer Science don't teach all those category, so what is the point for me to get a Bachelor Degree if I can…

  2. Hello all, I just found this website through Google, so I figured I'd join. I've always loved computers, but it hasn't been until recently that I've started having a lot of interest the science of how they work. Not too long ago, I put together my own computer, and since then I've been wanting to learn more and more. That being said, I've been looking up guides for computer science for beginners such as myself. the guide I'm currently reading this guide: http://www.jamesmaa.com/2013/08/26/a-beginners-guide-to-computer-science/ .... I'm not sure how great it is, but it seems really helpful to me. One of the main points made, was that community is a big deal i…

Since my windows XP is getting increasingly difficult to use I thought I would try 10. Great for the first week then File explorer 'lost' several important folders I had recently created. Instead it concentrated on showing me all sorts of rubbish I didn't ask for and don't want. Surely the point of a file / folder listing program is to list files?

I have been asking myself all day, why do some hack? To hack is in my opinion, to be mean or cruel. It is stealing private information. But I wanted to ask, why hack the CIA or NSA or FBI to steal information. The hacker already knows he is gonna be tracked and get captured by them. So whats to point of hacking? If I was a hacker I would hack a bank or something really expensive... What would you hack or why do you think about hacking the government? IAstroVIz

I'm studying it right now, let's talk about it. I'm still just getting started in my readings really, but I feel at least a little capable of engaging in a dialogue on the subject. Firstly I know enough to know I'm not in the camp that thinks we should be modeling the hardware and software after the human brain. It seems to me that the technology to create highly intelligent evolving computer consciousness is actually closer to being a reality than what would be needed to emulate the human brain. A lot of my computer science knowledge is also heavily tied to game design which is my current major, so when I think of procedural generation I am thinking about proced…

    My latest way to waste time. Figuring how to make pie charts with javascript and svg. I know google charts gives it to you but they use massive code. Here's my attempt. <head> <style> path{stroke: black; stroke-width: 2;cursor:pointer;stroke-linejoin="round"} path:hover{stroke: black; stroke-width: 2;opacity:0.5;} .red{fill: red;} .green{fill: green;} .blue{fill: blue;} .purple{fill: purple;} .yellow{fill:yellow;} </style> <script> function add(a, b) {return a + b;} var numbers = [30,40,20,50,77]; var colors = ["red","green","blue","purple","yellow"]; var labels = ["red","green","blue","purple","yellow"]; var piechart; var title = "pie char…

  12. I've come a fair way in python 3. I am having trouble installing modules on my mac. Poured hours into it and it's still not working, documentation on the internet that I have managed to find is vague at best. I've used pip and typed: sudo install XlsxWriter into the command line and got the following: usage: install [-bCcpSsv] [-B suffix] [-f flags] [-g group] [-m mode] [-o owner] file1 file2 install [-bCcpSsv] [-B suffix] [-f flags] [-g group] [-m mode] [-o owner] file1 ... fileN directory install -d [-v] [-g group] [-m mode] [-o owner] directory ... Then back to another command prompt... is it ready to use? I'm…

Is it because modern day programmers have never heard of a hole punch or is it due to something more sinister? I refer to the modern practice of failing to provide a proper binding margin on documents designed for computer printout. Organisations large and small, government and private seem more and more prone to this failing. Here is an example. Only the left hand column heading is detroyed in this case, but I have plenty of invoices where consignment information is lost.

Hello! this might be a slightly foolish question, but what is the exact diffrence in solving TSP and ATSP. I've always thought that in ATSP you need to compute the way back(since the input matrix is assymetric). So the path for ATSP is twice as long as TSP. Am i correct? I do understand this is a very simple question, but doubt has gotten into my mind. Thank you.

So I have discovered that my tablet was "generic" made in china (which I suppose I should have expected off a tablet my brother bought online). While it being made in china isn't a problem I'm sure they just put the hardware together and install the operating system. I have come to suspect that the android version installed on the device contains a Trojan virus allowing them to install apps, change the browser homepage etc after this happened to me i went searching online for people experiencing similar problems. I have decided that in order to solve this problem my best course of action would be to completely reinstall (flash) android which is possible using the android …

  18. Hello! I am currently writing a program to find the shortest path solution in a randomized rubix cube. There is a certain langauge/search based methodology that has caught my attention, and which i would like to apply to the solution, but I am unaware of what kind of terminology i should be looking up. THE METHODOLOGY: The methodology is one where different languages are developed to satisfy different aspects of the cubes solution. For instance we might find a language/grammar which appropriately describes/generates all transformations which move one block of the cube to some position we want it to be. We may then find another language which satisfies the mov…

  19. So I know that the x86 files are basically a where all your files on your computer are kept. Now lets say we have a folder with an application in it that runs off of PhysX for example, Would deletion of that folder from x86 also count as complete deletion from your computer of the application and the PhysX script or would the PhysX script be kept?

I am practicing my programming before I start my masters. I am writing a simple rota program for work. We already having rostering system. The main focus of this program is to look at the amount of patients coming in per hour, make the assumption that one doctor takes one hour per patient to process and calculate how many people will be waiting over 4 hours and how many people have to wait x y and z hours before seeing a doctor depending on the amount of patients coming in per hour and the amount of doctors on for that hour. I am having problems assigning doctors to each hour. Here is the following code: patients_each_hour = [4, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 7, 7, 6, …
