What do you think about the Grand Theft Auto series? (In case you didn't know it has been banned in Australia but they later released a clean version)

Verisign have today added "wildcard DNS" records to the .com and .net TLD's. Yesterday and since DNS has been around, if you looked up a domain that doesn't exist (For example, sceinceforums.net) you'd get a handy error message telling you the domain didn't exist. Thanks to the stupidity of verisign, this is no longer the case. Now, you get the IP address of a verisign webserver, advertising the domain registration services of Network Solutions - a Verisign company. The problem with this isn't just the obvious abuse of the monopoly handed to them by ICANN, it will break things. As an example, by mailserver rejects email if the domain used by the sender doesn'…

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11567 They claim that they can make an 55W and 30W Opteron next year. I think AMD found the key to a low power CPU and Intel is still searching. edit: Seems they are only talking about their more expensive low-power CPU not the desktop CPU's http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_543~74739,00.html.

Anyone got any rigged components? Home built PC's? Rigged home appliances? Universal serial cards? How about a discussion on Intel VS AMD? Mac VS PC? Any over clocking skills? Maybe this forum should be removed.

interesting read: http://www.beyond3d.com/misc/traod_dx9perf/ Although most of you will probably already know that buying an FX isn't really a smart idea. --------------------------------- info about windows 64bit for AMD64 available here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winhec/pres03.mspx Well, then we have at least more than one thread LOL, the board automatically changed 'ASS' to 'TAIL' in the subject.

I shortly will have the option of taking a quite highly paying job in the North East, and this involves knowing one or the other of Perl and Javascript. Unfortunately, I know neither. Here is where YOU! come in. Resources for the above if you would be so kind folks, and wrt Sayonara, any book type suggestions. Also in regard to sayonara, once I learn every programming language under the sun, would you like some help with AW, or is it just a leeds posse exclusive thing?

This is just a tidbit. Not really a post, just some information. The person who originally invented e-mail did it for his computer company for sending messages from one computer to another. Then he linked them up for sending to another company. Patented the idea, and his company madea fortune selling it. Ironicly, Hes a multi-millionaire, but he still drives some beat up old car, and lives in a small house. Thats a real nerd.

Well, i'm new to the forum and fairly new to programming. I've taken c and c++ so far. I was just wondering is it true that programming jobs these days are low? A few people were telling me i should stay away from computer science. I know i should make the ultimate decision on what track to take, whether it be systems programming, internet, etc. But what is popular these days? I want to make sure i learn what i have to learn to get a job and keep it. If it means learning more programming languages then i'll have to do it. I think i'm going to learn java next semester. By the way does anyone know of a good compiler i can get. I use Borland right now and the school's gnu co…

a while ago i posted something about aspiring to be a hacker, and asking for a someone to magically hand me the keys to transform myself into such an elite. Well now i have some specific question, so hopefully i may get more specific answers. What exactly is linux? I understand it is a an operating system, but what makes it different than DOS--- maybe a stupid question, but MS DOS is all i'v known (well and windows, but is that an operating system, and i've also had a little experience on macontosh). Please tell me as much about it and how it works as you can. What exactly is open source, so far i see its something to do with the users of a software having the fre…

This might be the funniest piece of video I've ever seen in my entire life. I was on the floor crying, gasping for air during this video. Check it: http://mike.disorient.net/uploads/videos/mac.wmv

Has anyone had any experience with the alpha builds, I ask because a new build (M5/4015) has leaked out and I was thinking about installing it to a new HD. If anyone has any experience as to the stability, I'm trying to find out if it's at all usable before I put myself through the torture of finding a viable download option for it (P2P is out, no one has it, and IRC is a nightmare because no one can send faster than 3-4kb/s, and thats after numerous hours spent in the queue).

With the new technology will it be possible to have a computer mimic the way a brain works so it can then think for itself and become intelligent? Maybe even cry?

Hi I've been working on a shell script to calculate julian dates in the remaining days of this year as well as all of 2004. This is the line I wrote to calculate such: let remain="((365-$tdate)-$jdate)" echo $remain days remain until $fdate tdate is today's julian date fdate is future date mm/dd/yy jdate is future date's julian value Everything runs well except for a few dates when $jdate's value is between 78 (March 18) and 99 (April 8). let: days=078: value too great for base (error token is 78). What do I need to do to correct this? I've tried numerous other ways, but to no avail. Thanks

I think it would be lots of fun to be a computer genius and create an army of hacking bots that will infect the internet with the black death of PCs. Or perhaps i wont use my powers toward such a dramatic purpose because i'd rather not be secretly and brutally murdered by the government. But i would enjoy knowing more depth about computers and programming. I know i could try to search the internet myself but search engines are often inefficent, and I find it much easier if i could find someone who already has all the perfect links. So will you help me in my education, or at least tell me where i can go to get such an education.

Many people always have a hard time choosing which language to start with. Some say C, others C++. Me? Well, I think learning C++ first is the way to go. C++ offers everything that C has plus more features/data implementions such as OOP. Why learn C then go on the C++ and learn the same stuff over again? Which do yall choose to learn first, and why? COMON PEOPLE! LETS DEBATE.
