just because norton has the largest market share doesnt mean its the best. there are free Av as good or better and with faster scanning times than norton. they even has free updates!! AVG is what most pple use: its quite good. i havent tried it properly. but its not a memory hog like norton http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php Avast antivirus is what i am using now. u can get the home edition for free or download the pro edition which acts like a 60 day trial. you can find the keygens all over the net. http://www.avast.com/i_kat_67.html there are also BitDefender, Panda , and AvtiVir. i havent tried them. About fsum v2.51 (checksum) problems Problems about a multi-checksum program called fsum v2.51 (http://www.slavasoft.com/fsum) I'm using Win XP. I wish to compare files in: - (Files in sending comp) G:\Backup\File - (Files in receiving comp) C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\File by using the checksum file How to do? I couldn't make it. The problem is as follows: First I made a checksum file in the receiving comp. I relocated the files in another place, eg C:\aaa\File. Then I typed the following in "cmd" in the receiving computer: fsum -crc32 -r -dC:\aaa\File *.* >C:\sum.txt So a checksum was processed and saved in C:\sum.txt Then I transferr…

Just curious if anyone else here has ever caught a virus or spyware on their computer using Mozilla or Firefox. I use Mozilla as often as I can, but sometimes I have to hit a site using IE because of formatting problems in Mozilla. But so far I don't think I've ever caught spyware on my system using Mozilla, and it's been ages since I've had anything at all. Meanwhile everyone I know who's using IE is getting hit left and right, unless they're using anti-spyware, ad blockers, MyIE2, etc.

    1) In the second attempt towards Dekker's algorithm, is starvation possible? If there are two processes and one processor and both processes want to enter the critical section, show how one of the processes could continually enter the critical section while the other is kept out. 2) In Peterson's Algorithm, if both processes want to enter the critical section, what keeps starvation from occuring?

Great article this month in Scientific American on electronic voting systems. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&colID=1&articleID=00018DD5-73E7-1151-B57F83414B7F0000 Let me know if it requires registration and I'll just post some excerpts, but I'd rather not because it has interesting illustrations. One of the more interesting examples they talk about is a system that actually does a printed receipt that's encased behind a transparent panel. The voter looks at the paper to make sure it's correct and then touches a button to confirm, and then gets a receipt. That way a paper trail exists, in case of electronic screw-up, but the official …
