Thinking about various threads here and there talking about inefficient modern software, has anyone ever though about hardwiring large chunks of software directly onto the CPU chips ? After all chips today contain millions of transistors, why not hardwire a linux kernel and a office word and internet explorer directly into hardware ? Would it be so difficult ? after all these chunks of programs are quite standard and stable, maybe introducing 5 or 6 megachips that have a large piece of standard software all hardware made could really improve things! Does anyone think there are real technical limitations to what I imagine ? What I was thinking about is the basi…

Here's my problem, 1. My PC wont boot up in 133MHz FSB, the screen goes blank. It only boots up in 100MHz FSB (both CPU and Memory). Why? 2. In XP, I get a LOT of Blue screens, and illegal program operations (the Send and Don't Send ones). What could be the problem? For 1. I think it may be the SMPS, maybe it's faulty. Can anyone confirm? For 2. I dont know, would it become alright if I change the SMPS, or is there any other problem, like memory or something?

Interesting article about RSS integration features in Safari: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/28/technology/circuits/28pogue-email.html? Safari is Apple's web browser for Mac OSX, so don't bother trying to get it. But check out this cool features: Nifty.

They say that to understand the history of something, you can't be too close to the events. So I am referring to something that happened about 20 years ago, namely when pascal and turbo pascal started to become popular and started to substitute basic as the programming language for home/PC computers. That is the day computers died. Pascal was the next "big thing" and cool and also "harder" so it started to pick up. Basic slowly started to become out of style. But the question I asked then and I still ask today is "why say an old thing in a new way ?" I also guess that is when programmers started running out of ideas. When you run out of new ideas invent a new programming …

Ok, so I built a new computer. I've had a few problems, but they're probably just id10t errors. I have everything hooked up now, and the mobo is posting. I see my HD listed in the boot priority options. I can run the HD software, and partition it, and what have you. When I go to install windows xp pro is where I have a problem. It starts up, and gets to the point where it basically says "Do you want to install windows? (hit enter), or not install windows (F3)" I hit enter, and it then tells me I have no HD. My question is, WTF? I've had the hardware tested, and everything checked out, so it must be user error. Does anyone have any ideas…

Is the on-board graphics on the latest mobos (i.e. GA-K8NXP-SLI) sufficient to load/install windows xp on a new pc? The reason for asking this is that i'm building a new high spec pc, and i don't really want to wait till i save up enough to buy all the parts in one go, i plan on saving up for a mobo, processor, RAM and HD first, installing an OS(probably winXP) and then adding the necessary such as a good graphics card later. Any help appreciated.

Recently, my computer has been running extremely slowly, with the taskbar taking about 5 minutes to load up when Windows XP loads. The computer also randomly stops, then starts again. I've scanned for Viruses, Spyware and Adware and there have been none found, so is there a corrupt file somewhere, and would the best solution be to reinstall windows?

I copied Server 2003 over Windows XP on the same volume, now that I've been to a couple of places looking for a solution they say not to install an OS on a volume with an existing OS. now how do I uninstall Windows Server 2003? I want to re-install my Windows XP SP-2 CD. Server 2003 has restrictions on installing an OS previous in version. I cannot format the drive through "Start>Run...>Command.com" then inputting the command "format c: /fs:fat32" then saying Y as in yes to formatting, then it says "format cannot run because volume is in use by another process................................would you like to force a dismount on this volume?" I know it's mostly Linux users around here (cheers!), but I wanted to pass this along because it's not being widely advertised. Along with the commercial introduction of 64-bit Windows XP today, Microsoft has announced a free upgrade for owners of the 32-bit version. Note that this only applies to people who bought a computer with a 64-bit chip with the 32-bit version of Windows pre-installed. So it's not really going to affect very many people -- basically Athlon 64 buyers who bought fully pre-built computers, ala Alienware, etc., but it also affects Opteron workstation buyers in companies, etc. Here's a link to the site where you apply: https://microsoft…

  24. Ok, my computer is f'd up. When I turn it on, it runs for a while (maybe 2 minuits, sometimes 30 seconds) and then just stops. The monitor turns black and the CPU fan stops running. My guess is that the motherboard is not gettign power becasue the HD's still run and the CD drive still works. It's almost like the computer turned off except that things are still buzing in there. Just not my fan. I've confirmed that it's not software level. At first, before I opened it up, I thought it was but when I was in the install wizard for FC3 it did it again. It also does this when I boot into my unfinished gentoo (I dont think I can get gentoo to work...). I really ne…
