Ok, can anyone explain why when I type in "s" or "a" just by themselves in the address bar, why firefox goes to random websites? If I type "s", for example, and click enter it goes to the mcdonalds website. If i type "a" it goes to apple's website... so can somebody explain how this works?

<form action="/php/X_24_demo.php" name="DemoForm" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data" onsubmit="return Final_Check();"> <input type="file" name="UserFile"> <input type="hidden" name="Original"> <input type="submit" value="Send File"> </form> the above is taken partially from: http://chensh.loxa.edu.tw/php/X_24_demo.php. It is the form part of an HTML file. Since my peer has made this simple php file, I would like to make a Java program which I could POST a small file and see the output, yes, without a browser. Since I knew what's the output should look like (via a browser of course), I can know whether my program works…

Ok, here's my problem. I just bought a new laptop and everything is great except for the fact I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. At home, I can connect to the internet through my LAN (DSL) and its all good. But I can't access wireless internet at home or school, or the LAN at school. I know my computer "sees" the connection because it lists the connections in "Network Connections" but I can't figure out how to use these connections to access the internet... Oh, I'm using XP Home. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. Thanks a lot.

I've finally finished all of the key frontend features of scWiki so I'd like do let everybody who wants to to beta test it. A demo can be found here. (don't download it since there is no installer) So far the biggest thing it lacks is a complete admin panel (although it's better than MediaWiki, which has none at all) and that's what I'll work on for the next week or two, along with any bugs that pop up. I'll also take suggestions on styling and what I should do to make it look snazzier. The current style is a bit boring. If you're an expert PHP coder, check out the CVS and look through the code to see if there are any security problems or anything. If you g…

Take any .exe file and convert it to .txt by simply renaming it (you can only do this if you can actually see the extension in the first place, enabling this can be done through My Computer > Tools > View > in 'Advance Settings' box deselect the 'Hide extensions for know files types') and then open the new .txt file. You will see loads of characters such as this: t&ƒþ:u‹FĉFî+À‰FƉFÄÇFìÿÿ¿p ¾0 ë ÇFì þ†Tþ€¾Tþ uVÿFìDЙFÄVƃ~¼ tÿNþuéxÿÿFêÿvè‹ðë8ö„ tƃÿouƒþ8}¼°PFÄPè²ë³¸ ™RPFÄPè€ë£ÿNêVÿv All the squares like this are characters which probably are not even part of the Unicode character list, at least I cannot use them on SFN... so it's basically a long…

I'm sick and tired of reading new news about how some company or committee has come up with a new way to encrypt or protect their content from piracy. The truth is that piracy will continue to happen, because there is nothing fundamental you can do to protect media and software from being pirated. This leads to a couple more issues. 1. Who are you actually hurting? The bootleggers who know how to hack and get around your "protection" technology and are selling your DVDs for a dollar a disk down in China or HongKong. Or is it actually the innocent consumer who is becoming increasingly hassled with all the protection unlocking steps (like for Windows XP even a hardware …

I just happened to catch a blurb on Slashdot about Linspire offering its software free for a limited time, so I thought I'd pass it along. Apparently you just go to the Linspire.com web site, go to purchase the standard $49.95 version for electronic download, and then enter the code word "Freespire" somewhere. It's slash-dotted at the moment (busy as hell), so I haven't actually seen it. I know most folks here prefer other distros, but I thought it worth a mention. If you guys are like me you like to check out other things from time to time, just to see what's going on.

There's a online TV firm in my country providing online TV programs for us to watch. The programmes are instantaneous, live. I downloaded the software and the Window media player was used to enjoy this free service. I want to get some of my favourable movie recorded in the channel but I don't know what to do. There might be some software which kindly provides the powerful function but I have very little knowledge about it. Any idea would be appreciated.

I'd always read/thought that there were 2 versions of the Pentium 4 processor. The first one: No hyperthreading No overheat auto-shutdown protection Whereas the second edition had both of these. Due to the age of my computer (relative to when the P4 processor was brought out) and the fact that I do not have the hyperthreading option in my BIOS I believed that I had the first edition. However just now I turned my computer on without the heatsink in (deliberately) and (the processor started at room temp) by the time it had booted just windows, hadn't even loaded my username the computer shut down, I felt the processor and burnt myself. 1) That took like 20…

I was just wondering if anybody here knows if there's anything available for Linux that's similar to Microsoft's Group Policy control. In other words, the ability to lock down workstations so that the users can't tamper with their configuration settings. The control has to be centralized, so that a master plan can be contrived for the entire workstation, and then centralized from a file server so that the whole network can be governed remotely. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
