Hi everyone I recently watched a movie called The Truman Show and it really creeped me out to the point where I got paranoid thinking what if my life was like that and you are all actors in my life. I don't know how to distinctively prove to myself that's not true because I can counter all my thoughts. For instance: lets say it is immoral and goes against laws to do that.. But what if the real rules behind the ones i know actually allow it. Or lets say if I do leave my city to see if I am actually not in a closed city and go to another city what if the show just got really rich and branched out to other areas of the world. Just stupid thoughts like that I try …

Okay so my girlfriend had a really bad panic attack today and went to the E.R, they just gave her some anti anxiety medicine and sent her home but were wondering if she has to worry about this in the future and if some medications she is taking could have any roll in this? She wrote on a health forum earlier and has yet to get a reply, I was wondering if some of you here at SF would know anything. hi I just had my first severe anxiety attack this morning. I woke up at around 3 in the morning to turn on my fan because I was hot. soon after I began to get cold and broke out in a cold sweat. For a fiction novel, would like to describe the physical and mental symptoms of the character having a psychotic break/mental breakdown, when they're so overwhelmed, do they do other things that is normally out of character. Instead of writing, "he had a psychotic break", would like to describe the actual symptoms to make it more realistic and hopefully believable. What would an outside observer see? The guy's eye twitching? Rapid breathing? What would go on in his mind? Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Adults having sex with children is considered one of the most heinous crimes. The rape of a child causes significant trauma and physical harm. However consensual sex with children, which may not even be penetrative, is a grey area. In order for something to be justifiably criminalized it must be harmful, for this reason homosexuality has been decriminalized. There are several factors which need to be discussed when deciding if pedophilia is intrinsically harmful. Age of consent Ages of consent are arbitrary and differ across nations. In Italy a 40 year old can legally have sex with a 14 year old, whilst in California a 20 year old having sex with his 17 year old girlfri…

  10. Yep, there's gonna be lots of religious interfaith dialogue going on in the next few weeks in Australia. Also, Geert Wilders is visiting Australia soon! But what could all of this could lead to? Relations between Muslims and non-Muslims in Europe seem to be polarised. In my opinion, Muslims have integrated quite well here in Australia. Though still I'm slightly anxious about my country. I want Muslims and non-Muslims to respect and understand each other. What can Muslims do to foster good relations? What can non-Muslims do? Should more Muslims invite more non-Muslims to mosque open days? Singapore is a good example of a country which seems to have goo…

  12. Hello, all. As of late, I have been attempting to understand how false memories are generated. Of interest is a false memory I generated some time ago of an individual. The individual's name is Venessa. I had psychological transferred episodic memory attributes from a woman named Vanessa to another woman named Venessa. As such, I have been attempting to find any documentation of events in people that exist like this. In my situation, I was under a stressful event when dealing online with the woman named Venessa. I had an intimate relationship with both women, Vanessa (ex-girlfriend) and Venessa (friends-with-benefits), at different points in my life. In 2012, I ca…

Hi everybody, I was just wondering whether anybody knows whether virgin marriages last longer than non-virgin marriages. I have heard that it is better to not have pre-marital sex so that when you do get married, your chances of divorce will be lower. Is there any truth behind being a virgin and your marriage going longer? Please show your opinion with evidence. Thank you!

  15. I filled out an online survey questioneer to participate in some research studies. The survey is called the Institutes for Behavior Resources (IBR) Participant Screening Survey and is at www.surveymonkey.com/s/groupbehavior. The IBR currently is screening for two studies in which the participants will participate in simulations of planetary exploration. (sounded interesting). I was intrigued by one of the questions, shown below: So according to the formulators of this study, engaging in praying is an example of an obsessive compulsive disorder! FYI: here is some additional information about the Institutes for Behavior Resourses

I believed it was called "The *something* Effect." There was an interesting YouTube video that demonstrated this but I can't find it. Could you guys help me out?

It was Aristotle who, in his discussion of friendship, claims that women and womanish man makes their friends unhappy by seeking sympathy. Leave aside whether this statement is true, which would be a discussion in ethics, do feminine men complain more? Are there research that confirms this? The only psychological fact I am aware of is that women tend to prefer masculine men for short-term relationships and feminine men for long-term relationships. It makes one wonder how much the appearance as well as the conversational styles of both groups of men affect their impression on their mates. Please give me your best answer whether it is objective scientific or subject…

Hi everyone, Not sure if anyone on here will be educated on this sort of topic (or if I'm even in the right topic here), but I thought I'd give it a shot. I would go to a scientific community before any other public forum. Anyway, I am 22, and I was just diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD. My doctor decided to put me on 100 mg Wellbutrin for 2 weeks to see if I see any results. He said that although it's an antidepressant, it has shown to help adults with Primarily Inattentive ADHD. My question is: Does anyone know anything about this drug and, more specifically, how it could affect the "ADHD brain"? I know it's a different kind of antidepressant in the sense t…

  19. SWIM is studying Psychology, and turned to me for an answer to this question. He knows I'm in Psychiatry, and that I have a great deal of knowledge about Psychopathology and Psychology. But his question left me at a los for words. I know that incest is often a question of power and/or sexual attraction, but he was more interrested in what actually makes someone decide to have sex with their own child, nephew or niece. In my short career in Psychiatry(mostly Social Psychiatry), I have never come across anyone comitting, or being subject to these actions. I was hoping you could help me answer my friends question. Sorry for my mediocre English. My excuse is; I'm No…

He cannot walk on his own and is without speech. For the last 2 years he had developed the habit of slapping his face when he is irritated or crying. I came across this article and assume it's content is a valid perspective from an actual scientologist. http://www.lermanet.com/exit/onauditingbystacy.htm I'm curious to know others opinions about the article mostly about the effects of the process. My personal belief is that later in the process the person is definitely suffering from illusions of grandeur but would you also believe the person would be completely psychotic and out of touch with reality completely? Even if it's not an official statement from a true scientologist the process described certainly is an interesting read and provides alot of insight on how brain washing works I …

Would a learning drug exist and would it be used for educations or would it be used for a bad way? I think this should exist because certain people learn differently and it would improve good judgement, memory, and understanding. I think for the most part people would use it in a good way for education and to help on certain things. But again like other drugs out there it'll probably be used or configured some how to make people get high instead of it actual use. Your opinion?

  25. Many people live with a cultural taboo regarding interpersonal conflict and confrontation. Because reasons for such conflicts emerge often in everyday life, the potential for confrontation is strong. However, the fact that people may experience such confrontation as taboo may lead them to repress conflicts to avoid confrontation and expect others to do the same. This can result in tension where people develop aggressive feelings toward each other and a desire to express such aggression violently but repress doing so out of fear for social stigma and other invalidation. What psychological effects are possible and/or likely as a consequence of repressing aggression? …
