Picking a location...

Resided in San Francisco, California for many years and at a certain point, I was in the rare position to choose were in the whole U.S. to move for retirement.
Fleeing from the 24-7 overcrowded crawling five lane freeways, banks, supermarket lines, forest of parking meters and other factors from 'Ripoffornia' state; decided to pick a location that was a surprise to many by method of decision; aiming to

- No or least earthquakes,
- No or least tornadoes,
- No or least hurricanes,
- No or least floods,
- No or least forest fires,
- No or least weather extremes.
- No isolation from 'civilization'
- No immersion in a big city.
- Reasonable cost of living.

- No or least gangs, crooks, crime.

----> Where would you choose to buy your home and reside from the above guidelines together ?
And, would you add some other considerations to the list ?

My old stomping grounds. (one of them anyway)

Corvallis, OR, tops the list for least likelihood of natural disasters

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/05/01/weekinreview/01safe.html?hp&_r=0

It also tops the list of safest small cities in the US from insurance analysis. Top three are Corvallis OR, Harrisburg, Va, and Ithaca, NY.

The government in Taxachusetts is demigism, and to get an A in social studies requires five out of five bulls eyes on the final.

Translation please?

IIRC there was an old couple in the late seventies which relocated on a remote island on the most secure spot in the former British Empire. The Falklands.

Texas politicians are mostly god fearing, and trying to change school curriculum to exclude evolution and include creationism (demigod...demigism) and we now have a law that allows one to carry a gun almost anywhere to protect themselves from citizens (i.e., social studies target practice).

Oh, that's not Taxachusetts. That's Texasphyxia.

Come to Southern Ontario, Canada.

The people are just like Americans, only nicer.

From rural to big city in less than an hour.

And your dollar goes a lot farther.

The winters are too cold right now, but maybe one day.

Kansas, wichita.

Rarely get tornados despite what the news says. I've been here 27 years and in that time we've had 2 tornados skirt the city. Most tornados in kansas are out in the boonies.

Other than that a few 3.0 or less earthquakes which happen way out beyond the city, again in the boonies, no severe weather ever comes here.

Aside from rain and hail.

Crime is low unless you live downtown in the ghetto, which that's going to be high in any city ghetto area. The ghetto is small though compared to the rest of the city.

Cost of living is fairly cheap provided you don't work for retail.

Also wichita is not a "big city" like Chicago, new York city, etc. It's very easy to live in a small town 10 or 20 miles outside the city, and still experience very little severe weather, crime, cost of living, etc.
