Quoting is not working properly. If I quote someone, it doesn't mention who the original author of the quote was..

Still no hamburger menu, no activity button, all very bare bones. I'll be on desktop tomorrow so it won't be a problem, and I'm most grateful for what our admins have done to keep it all afloat.

They depend on the resolution..

It is called Responsive Web Design.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsive_web_design

and it is controlled by CSS media rules.

I think I found a really nasty bug - after merging two messages and trying to edit the original message, there is no content of the second message..

@Cap'n Refsmmat

After pressing Edit and then Cancel, a blank alert window will appear:

@TheVat

The resolution has been slightly changed and the hamburger menu has disappeared:

980px triggers it

As I already said you can try it with Firefox ctrl-shift-m

What's a hamburger menu?

By the way, I'm really finding the apparent obsession of the new software with pictures annoying. It seems to privilege pictures over text, as if we were small children. This is meant to be a discussion forum, where we communicate complex ideas in words. For example, two pictures I added semi-seriously to threads now appear prominently at the head of the threads concerned, as if they are the most important thing the thread contains. It's a ridiculous, clickbaity style. The pics (or, for the most part, empty boxes for pics) also take up a lot of room on the screen, requiring more scrolling to see what contributions have been made to the forum. I may be being an old fuddy-duddy but I think it would be great if we could get rid of this feature.

The world is changing, exchemist. Now form prevails over content. I mean these form and content. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_and_content

So, now pictures are more important than words. And you don't have a right to complain, crocodile tears.

Yes, you sound like an old dinosaur.

What's a hamburger menu?

The ubiquitous three-horizontal-line menu is called a hamburger menu:

I too yell at the same clouds. I'm going to see if there's a template change that can reduce this, at least for the forum list on the front page where the image slots are all empty.

Many thanks.

Nearly the only useful information on the home page at the bottom right hand corner compared to one of those empty picture holders.

The useful things being the who's online list and the clickable all activity (one click instead of two from that diminutive tab at the top)

I found the setting to change how the front page forums are listed and switched it to the old view. There are a couple other new options I can play with, but for now this looks much better.

Yes that looks a lot better.

Though I see the entire Applied Chemistry sub-forum still displays my two-fingered salute to @TheVat , for his crap joke about antimony 😁.

I find this far more frustrating than I expected to

I didn't get anything, at least on the email account I logged in with.

I don't see the sense behind these icons either. I prefer the kind of layout we had: subforums just as a listing. Is this something that can be changed?

Hey! Capt'n, you did it! Thanks a lot!

One thing you can do to find out who is being quoted is to click on the shadow arrow on the right hand side of the quoted passage.

Sorry my screenshot looses my cursor when I take it.

Today the hamburger menu appeared (at bottom of page) on my tablet and everything worked well. Thank you, mon capitaine!

I find that within same session, opening a thread brings me to the end but if I come back later in a new browser session opening the threads starts me on post #1 (even if I click the timestamp instead of the title link). Anyone else?

Edit: Clicking the N-replies link does what I need

Appreciate the tip! +1

I haven't figured out what's going on with quotes yet. They're definitely supposed to contain the name of the user being quoted, so something is wrong. I may have to ask Invision's support to figure it out.

You seem to have fixed both this and the picture issue. Well done and many thanks.

There is no LaTex!

Should be fixed now. I'll need to tweak it, since it's an old version of MathJax, but it should behave the same as the old system now.

It was fixed but now it's gone.

Negative

Ah yes you're right. The post being quoted appears, but not its author.

I think I've figured out the cause of the quoting issue, as well as other issues where text doesn't show up when it's supposed to (like blank alert windows and buttons). A JavaScript file with translation text for everything isn't being loaded correctly. Unfortunately I can't tell how to fix it, so I'm going to send it to Invision to figure out.
