It’s amazing, indeed. I stayed there briefly about a decade ago. What about the engineering did you wish to discuss, though?
  2. Because right and wrong aren’t objective states that apply consistently across domains. They’re based merely on local behavioral norms and cultural expectations. These unwritten “codes of conduct” evolve over time and vary from one community to another.
  3. And perhaps my computer is powered by unicorn farts and leprechaun laughs. We may never know
  4. Repeating this since the last poster so clearly missed it (or simply didn’t care)
  5. It's known as the subjectivity bias, and you seem uninterested in recognizing that this is no way to arrive at an accurate or useful model of the cosmos (or simply following the rules to which you agreed when creating your account here).
  6. I remember him from even before that on yet another site called Hypography.
  7. Also, birth control. The cost of accidental birth is nearly zero for men, and decidedly NOT zero for women.
  8. I tend to align with that perspective
  9. Quantum uncertainty to me suggests determinism is at best an approximation of reality. Your view seems purely deterministic. That is why I can’t accept it as valid.
  10. What about it? Better question needed to arrive at better answer.
  11. This isn’t a forum for bad poetry. It’s a forum for science enthusiasts
  12. These are the modern day equivalent of pirates attacking cargo ships on the open seas. Modernized maritime laws with enforcement teeth are badly needed.
  13. Bc It helps us to better understand the common blind spots we all have in our own minds in an entertaining and engaging way. Also, in the spirit of James Randi… there are no magicians. Only conjurers and illusionists and hucksters. /tangent
  14. Even if one stipulates that politicians in the US are religious, clearly the other answer is the US is a representative governance system and voters feel those representatives represent them. That said, I tend more to agree with swansonts core point here. One could say he represents my view. There’s a certain beauty in this realization. It means we’re lucky and have a chance to explore and learn and be a part of something bigger than ourselves, even if only temporarily. If that depresses you, you should consider seeking help from a medical professional. ‘We can lament the fact that rose bushes have thorns, or we can rejoice about the fact that the thorn bushes have roses.’ Perspective.
  15. I never said any such thing. Please stop lying.
  16. How do those numbers compare to number of adverse events, hospitalizations, and deaths among people who did not receive a vaccine? I bet those numbers are close since the vaccine doesn’t lead to the outcomes you describe. Get vaccinated. The math on this isn’t hard yet you seem hell bent on continuing to misread it.
  17. That was very well explained. Thanks for the insight and informative post
  18. Then Trump woke the militias and racists.
  19. In fairness, I’m using the term “neighbor” rather loosely. Greater anonymity is a good idea, which is why I lock down the majority of my PII from those with whom I’m not connected
  20. No. These people are effectively neighbors
  21. In fact, yes. I did. I provided additional context that Fauci offered… adding the more complete quote… to combat the selective framing my senator used. It largely fell on deaf ears / blind eyes, tho Not quite that severe, but pretty close. I’ve had to dial back quite a bit on what I do and do not decide to comment upon, the motivation being to protect my family from the whack jobs who can’t disagree agreeably.
  22. People sometimes forget that we’re actually moving as space.
