Our OP has clearly asked that this thread not become (yet another) debate on guns in the US. I know the ability to show respect online is in short supply these days, but perhaps folks could at least attempt to respect this reasonable request.

Agreed, as do a sizable portion of my fellow citizens. Sadly, another sizable portion is right now celebrating this kid as some sort of hero. A fair point, which is why it’s so important to consider other evidence like that which the judge threw out. Weeks before he fatally shot and maimed these people in Wisconsin, Rittenhouse was recorded saying he wished he 'had my f---ing AR' to shoot at people leaving CVS. Full quote below. It shows his state of mind and reminds us that it’s not appropriate to claim self defense over an escalation of violence that your own actions provoked. https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/kyle-rittenhouse-recorded-weeks-kenosha-192829155.html

I’m confused. How in your mind does the jury today saying it wasn’t murder make what those now dead people were doing in the street that night in any way relevant? They were not posing a threat, yet got shot dead by an out of state white kid. Maybe they deserved to die at the hands of a teenager because a window got broken. Is that what you mean? Or do you just mean a broken window is reason enough to take a life outside of the justice system? Because if neither of those represent your view, then WHAT THEY WERE DOING THERE OR HOW THEY WERE PROTESTING IS IRRELEVANT.

If I murdered your child, would you find it relevant when I mentioned they were misbehaving on my street?

No, but perhaps you missed how I began the post you quoted.
  6. I do have those, but very rarely use.
  7. There are those who paint and there are those who paint by number. ✌️
  8. I feel attacked by Stumpy Nubs! I try to avoid using screws and nails on anything that’s not a simple jig or shop piece. 😂

Maybe not partisan, but certainly irrelevant. If his victims were there rioting, raising hell, breaking the law, then they deserved what Rittinghouse got. A trial in a court of law, not a vigilante death sentence from an out of state white kid who was out looking for trouble and angling for a fight.
  10. About 20 years ago I'm "insisting" nothing. I'm pointing out where he's very clearly wrong and full of manure.

    Only the white ones
  12. That was the one month (last month) number. Will likely be higher this month, maybe next month, too. Then it should flatten early 2022, and start dropping again somewhere around summer. Before this time next year, normal inflation numbers are expected globally once more (con men and authoritarian tyrants willing). Your raise will persist even after we transition past this temporary inflationary spike that COVID and supply chain issues have caused. Not relevant with fixed mortgage, which is most. Only relevant on variable rates, or if you’re buying into the bubble with a new mortgage (in which case you’re part of the inflation problem). I’m sure JP would tell me I’m wrong because sea scallops taste good with butter or some dumb shit like that, but there you have it
  13. Hmm. I dunno. I’ve made far more errors in bars than in other places. In related news: https://fullstackeconomics.com/no-the-real-inflation-rate-isnt-14-percent/ I’m inclined to give JP a hard time for being so consistently wrong and misinformed on so very many issues, but (much like with Trump) I feel the bigger issue is with just how very many people are willing to listen and accept his nonsensical falsehoods as true.
  14. I often feel this same way about OPs. The struggle is real.
  15. So are air, food, water, and sleep. And having eyelids. Oh, and kneecaps, too.
  16. I like helping students, especially those willing to ask hard questions and explore answers from different sources. Well done! I will say, however, that I'm extremely resistant to clicking links from strangers online, and I'm even more resistant to sharing personal information like email address when I do. If you can ask your questions here in this thread, I'd be happy to answer them and you have my permission to transfer them to your centralized response tracker. For example, I feel that CRISPR is super cool, with tons of opportunity to make our lives better and cure disease, but also with tons of risk to be used by bad people and used by people who wish to have designer children where they choose their height, eye color, and related other traits. This could result in problems culturally, but also with disease if we're too similar to one another in the future and a bad virus hits. Like I said, I will reply here (or potentially to an anonymous survey), however, if you ask me to click your link and fill in details associated with me in a non-anonymous way, I won't be doing that... and I imagine I'm not the only one who will avoid your form for these same reasons. Summarized: Happy to help, but not in the way you're asking. Good luck, either way!
  17. Fairly certain he meant the US heading that way IN ADDITION to those others, not that the US was somehow alone in this path. The US is, however, not historically known for it which is part of the issue being discussed.
  18. They didn’t underestimate death rates in the US so much as they underestimated idiocy, ignorance, and intransigence. Much like car accidents still kill people despite the introduction of seatbelts. Obviously, seatbelts don’t work and shouldn’t be worn at all. That’s just common sense right there. We should also get rid of airbags and crumple zones and stop lights while we’re at it. If it’s not perfect, it’s not needed… that’s what I always say. 🙄
  19. Maybe for you… I realized this way back on page 1! 😎
  20. Sadly, the side believing and spreading these lies also tends to be the side that stockpiles guns by the hundreds and ammunition by the hundreds of thousands.
  21. Indeed, just supercharged and on steroids now with focussed help from nefarious actors with state funding and new digital tools and “dials” allowing marionette level control over what people see and hear.
  22. Completely agree. Nice post, overall. We need MORE debate and pushback on ideas, not less. Sadly, when said pushback and criticism comes, it's too often cast aside and dismissed as over-sensitive cancel culture. Those buzzwords like "cancel culture" are, in fact, being consistently themselves used to cancel cultural conversations. Thought for food...
  23. The far right with their simple scapegoats and caricatured versions of freedom are certainly on the rise everywhere, and this is quite common historically during times of economic stress and public health issues like pandemics. Basically, this is all very shocking and sad, but hardly surprising.
  24. It’s about time you caught up to us. It snowed here 2 days ago on Friday. I was just glad it didn’t heil… erm, I mean, hail. History doesn’t always repeat, but it often rhymes.
