Police in other countries ( like mine ) don't have to worry about the large numbers of guns, compounded by open and concealed carry rules. How do you train for that, other than by taking control of the situation. Similarly, when the order comes down to clear the area of protesters, because Zapatos has just called and said his store is being vandalized/burglarized, d you ask all of the thousands of people if they've recently had a hip replacement before starting to push them away from the area ? Or should we just let your store be burglarized, and it's your problem to deal with ? A discussion of the issues needs analysis from all points of view. It is very easy to say what should not be done; a lot harder to say what should be done instead.

We obviously can't have 'variable' policing, by area or population density; the same groups who are currently disadvantaged would be even more affected. So how do we modify policing, so that it is color blind, and not 'brutal' ? The whole Emergency Response Team ( about 50 ) recently quit in Buffalo, when a video incident surfaced that showed team members pushing an old man while trying to clear a protest area, for which they were suspended. They were following their training/orders, and can't be expected to treat each individual accordingly, when several thousand are present and some are destroying/vandalizing property. Obviously this was 'brutal' treatment of an old man, but what should be done instead. All suggestions welcome.

It is obvious any change is not going to be top-down; not with this current President. Would this not be a good time for a contender for the Presidency, in November, to propose some policies or legislative changes, and take advantage of the 'mood' of the American population ? May I suggest that if Moreno wants ( that's questionable ) an education in police, or systemic, discrimination/violence towards black people in the US, he should start another thread. Every time we can have an interesting discourse about racism, causes, cures, and where do we go from here, it always gets hijacked by someone claiming there is no racism, and goes on to give us several pages of "Yes there is"/"No there isn't". This same pattern also emerges when we start having interesting discussions about AGW, and I sometimes I limit my participation for that reason, even if I find the OP very interesting. I would really like to discuss what effects the death/murder of G Floyd will have ( if any ) on American society, its government, policing and justice system, and society in general. I would hate to think his death, and many before him, have died for nothing.

I do 'get' it, Dim, Zap, CY, INow, and all who have tried explaining. My concern is that often we find 'hidden' meaning in certain words or phrases. Usually because our perception of those words or phrases are colored by our life experiences. And not to make light of a person losing his life to deliberate brutality, but this incident couldn't have come at a worse time. In about a week there will be an explosion of Covid-19 cases all across the US. And of course, predominantly in the communities that took part in the protests. How many more will die ?

But say you have a protester with a sign that said "Native American lives matter also", would he/she be kicked out of the protest march ? What if another was carrying a sign that said "Latinx lives matter also", do you think they should be kicked out, or admonished for it ? Or protesters with signs that say "Oriental Muslim lives matter too", would they be fired from their jobs, or receive neg reps on this forum ? Assuming Bill Maher is a good source, and there is such a study, we are left with the possibility that people touch each other, and infect things, indoors a lot more than they do outdoors. I also assume that they cough evenly, whether indoors or outdoors, but most Chinese wear mask outdoors, which 'contain' most of the cough droplets and retard spread. So yes, I can 'see' that statistic being factual. From your link, and its charts, it looks like your police forces are out of control, INow. They are shooting everybody ! I still maintain that this occurs because of your 2nd amendment, and the fact that police are trained to disable a perp, in case he is armed. Our Canadian police forces are trained to de-escalate situations. If they even pull their gun, never mind use it, they have two weeks of paperwork to fill out. Get rid of the guns, and you won't only stop the mass shootings ( although we just had another one recently ), but police may actually talk to people to resolve situations. I am torn as well. While I see the value of protest as a voice to people for the enactment of change, most of the time violence/destruction/looting are counterproductive. Although there have been a few good examples of protests where the police has marched with protesters, taken a knee, or even read names of past police killings. Even the 'chanting' of lines like "I can't breathe", "Black lives matter", etc. are counterproductive. While I agree America needs to have a long hard discussion about these matters, these 'slogans' seem to just drown out the discussion, and more like temper tantrums of little kids. They remind me of the sheep in G Orwell's Animal Farm, drowning out the other animals' complaints about the pigs in charge. Protesters should be speaking with one unified voice and be inclusive. ( and there's no better example of well-reasoned discussion than this forum )

D Trump may reconsider his Tweets now that protests/riots have spread to the capital. Apparently the White House went in lockdown last night.
