    i noticed you get desktop notifications, if you are not on the same tab as the forum, and a sound.

      That is why - I believe - it has to ask for positive permission to do so.  Not a great fan of the new notifications - but waiting to see if they grow on me

      It's fine for me because I often have a few different forum tabs open and I flit between them. This is certainly quite a significant set of updates. It's taking some getting used to.
