universe seems expanding, scientist say. is it happening in quantum level or only stars n planets n heavenly bodies r separating?? if it is happening in quantum level then all the particles like molecules, atoms, nucleus, protons, quarks.... r separating resulting in uniform expansion on EVERYTHING. so does it really effects the size of universe??

I just got a brand new telescope, a Bushnell North Star GOTO 78-8846 114MM Reflector, and it does EVERYTHING but take pictures. I was wondering if you can buy lenses that take pictures or if that is only included with the telescope. If so then how much and where of course.

it is said that all matter and radiation was confined to a single point at that instant this would imply a black-hole as the point since nothing else could confine matter and more importantly radiation to a single point other than a BH any thoughts in otherwords ; gravity cannot alone explain how radiation cannot eminate into space and nor is common gravity strong enough to draw all matter towards a central point it would take an un-common strength of gravity to create a BB hence a black-hole ( BH )

Hello, My first post here. /waves Just a thought. Is it possible our universe is actually the start of a black hole? Essentially that we and everything in this universe inside of that "hole"? No way of knowing but think about it. To further explain exactly what I mean. For example, is it possible that everything in our "known" universe inside of a black hole. Explaining the expanding? Just a thought. Discuss.

Is there a limit to the amount of redshift that light can experience before it stops redshifting any further? I'm asking separately for redshift caused by space expansion, and redshift caused by normal star movement.

Does anyone know of a diagram of the observable universe shown in real time, like how it exists if we account for galaxy movements and cosmic expansion? Or of any group attempting to calculate where galaxies and super clusters would be today and give us the projected approximations, rather than mapping the universe in observational/past time? I believe we might be able to glean some new information about the universe if we also looked at it's modern state, rather than just its (often, eons ancient) past history. Could be that we see an unforeseen pattern emerge, or a surprising connection between events. I also believe people would like to see it just for curiosity's…

Hi, I am not a scientist so my understanding of space-time is based on books, magazine articles, and internet searches that are light on math. If space-time is a fabric or foam that can be warped, what makes up the fabric or foam? From what I understand, so far, string and M theories may fit in somewhere. Do strings make up the "membrane" in M theory? Is this "membrane" the fabric or foam of space-time? I am probably way off track and thought I might find some answers here before I become terminally confused. Thanks, Tom C

Komatsu et al is currently the best source on hard cosmology http://arxiv.org/abs/0803.0547 Five-Year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) Observations: Cosmological Interpretation So what if it's 99% incomprehensible. If you have watched the balloon animation movies at Wright's website, and tried stuff with the cosmo calculator there is an important 1% that you can get directly from the Komatsu paper. (Don't have to take my or anybody else's word for it.) The authors of that paper include superheros like Joanna Dunkley, David Spergel, and Ned Wright. The tables of numbers are not only just based on the latest WMAP, there are columns labeled "WMAP+SNe+B…

When a star is said to be five billion LY away is the distance the star has drifted since that light left the star figured in. if not how far would the star really be if drift was accounted for.

Distant galaxies we observe today are as they were and where they were 12+ billion years ago. How did they get so far apart so soon after the big bang?

When they show a diagram of the observable universe or the cosmic microwave background, are they showing the observable universe as we see it now, or do they calculate where everything is supposed to be today and give us the projected approximations in the image? (Edit -- in other words, do they map the universe in "real time" or in observational/past time?) And if they don't usually show us the new projected locations of all cosmic bodies, is there anyone or a group that has created (or attempted) such a map?

I know that the singularity of a black hole has infinite gravity. I also know that this gravity can be over come by great distances. But can there be a chain of blackholes at certain intervals to form a net gravitational pull. Thus making a huge portal across a part of the universe.

So I was thinking. Let's say that somehow you made it to the exact center of the earth( supposing that this was actually possible and that you weren't crushed by the pressure and that earth was a perfect sphere.) Would you be "weightless" as there would be nothing pulling you down to earth. Would the gravitational effect of the outer walls of earth stretch you apart? If I'm right than wouldn't you weigh less below a certain altitude ( where the gravity of earth is just before it begins to decrease as you move outward...)

I know, I know. No such thing exists. It's a question. I have to give credit to my friend who put forth this idea, and I'm losing my mind trying to prove him wrong. -- Say we placed a giant iron pole on the Earth. Pretend it was big enough to match the scale shown in the picture. http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mindnumbingcurvaturend2.jpg What would happen to the pole? The gray lines in the pictures represent the pull of gravity. So, I believe that the pole would be bent to match the curvature of the earth. Now imagine that the same iron pole was placed miles above the Earth, and that the pole was longer than the circumference of the Earth.…

Hi guys. Great place you got here:D I have a question and I would really appreate any help, any! What is the value of azimuth in zenith (in horizontal coordinate system of course)? It's kinda tricky I think. My guess is that it could be any value. I would really appreciate any help. I'm kinda in a hurry.

“The Pioneer anomaly or Pioneer effect is the observed deviation from expectations of the trajectories of various unmanned spacecraft visiting the outer solar system, notably Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11. Both spacecraft are escaping from the solar system, and are slowing down under the influence of the Sun's gravity.” as described by Wikipedia. Dynamic universe model of cosmology has a natutal explanation to this problem. It shows effectively the acceleration due to gravity of SUN increases towards SUN, approximately beyond Mercury -4.44202E-07 m /sec^2 ; beyond MOON -2.11409E-08 m /sec^2 ; beyond Mars -2.11E-08 m /sec^2 ; beyond Jupiter -2.30844E-05 m /sec^2 ; b…
