What makes the water molecule being undissociated when something is put in water? Thereby, is the oxygen-hydrogen bond in water the strongest( even stronger than NaCl). The hydrogen bond in intermolecular force stronger than NaCl??

can any one please explain where the radioactive symbol comes from and what it represents. the only theory i could come up with was that the centre circle is the element/compound and the three shape around it represent, Alpha, Beta and Gamma rays ??? Many thanks AM

What is the best method for grinding powders? I need to go anywhere from a rice grain size to a table salt size to a good powder (the finer the better). I have heard of just using a mortar and pestle, but then also using marbles in a can. I was wondering if these same methods woud work for grinding Al foil into powder form. Also some one mentioned some sort of "tumbler" that they put marbles in. Do they mean like a rock polishing tumbler? Thanks for all the help!

Can anyone explain what happens when i try to grow (large) crystals using solution that contains mix of salts. Magnesium sulphate and copper sulphate for example. Do i get separate crystals of both compounds or something else?

What is the defintion of bonding? For two water molecule, the hydrogen atom seems to be positive sometimes. And this moment, the hydrogen atoms attract by the oxygen atom from another molecule, why isn't it a "short' bonding?

Is it possible to learn chemistry by reading forums and web pages or would one have to go to college. How would i learn how chemicals react and such when mixed or burned or whatever. YT seams to know all about all chemicals and such. Where could i start learning. Chemistry for dummies book maybe? Supply links and such if it is possible to learn from the internet. I have taken chemistry in high school and i know that learning is not easy but id like to give it a try. Also what type of money does the average chemist make and how easy is it for him or her to get a job?

Hi I would like to know how to make the following materials using HOUSEHOLD MATERIALS. After exhausting my chemistry set, (no I am not 12, ((I am 14))), which reminds me Potassium Iodide and something reacted to make an opaue black solution can you tell me what was going on there? Anyway could I have some ideas to make/buy the folowing:- HCl- Apart from being ill HNO3 HF- Dont worry I will be careful Aqua Regis- '' '' I no it is HCl and HNO3; but what quantities? Alkalie metals- How do I get the temperatures CaO- '' '' '' H2SO4- Without a car battery Cl2- Hmm I think i need i lisence but what the hell Hdrogen Cyanide- mmm ahem (shifty eyes)…

i was thinking of making some H2SO4 using the following procedure; electrolysis; MgSO4 solution, Al cathode, Cu anode ->CuSO4 of course, some of the CuSO4 is actually Cu(OH)2 and H2SO4. my question is how can i get the reverse acid base reaction to be favored?

if you plugged two wet wires into an outlet and held them close to each other they will buzz and then explode, which i think would be caused by the wires getting to hot. If you wrapped the ends of each wire around large peices of pencil lead, then put the pencil lead close to each other would the same thing happen? I don't think trying it would be too good of an idea without knowing what could happen.. If the lead is alot safer, i was going to use it to seperate water into 02 and h2 and then fill up a ziplock bag with the gases and blow that up.

Does parts mean parts by weight? A composition for example has the following: 5-15 parts A 5-15 parts B 45-75 parts C What exactly does that mean? Now let's say I have another composition where everything is given in pounds. How do I convert that to parts? For example, let's say I have a total composition of 1000 lbs with the following: 500 lbs A 400 lbs B 100 lbs C How do I convert these lbs to parts? Any help would be appreciated

today i got really bored while studying for the math regents. i decided that it's about time i made a bit of sodium citrate (Na3C3H5O7) and extracted it from solution. hey, who doesn't want an anti-clotting agent around the house? could save your life, ya know. well, i did the simple reaction and boiled off all the H2O. unfortuantely, i was left with a black solid stuck to my pan. that wasn't cool. i figured that i had burned my Na3C3H5O7. i found this solid to be useless so i added a small amount of H2O and found it to be extremely soluble. now i have a small bottle filled with a black solution. anybody know what that solute is?

I am having trouble understanding chemical equation, well mostly this one here.... When hydrochloric acid (hydrogen chloride) is released in the air, the oxygen reacts with it to produce chlorine gas and water. If you use 20.0 L oxygen, how much hydrogen chloride (in g) could you react with it to use the oxygen?

Is a reaction possible with the reactants H20+CO2+N2 and the product a solid precipitate and O2, given the chemical equation is balanced ? I've been looking at organic chemistry and notice that there are different, more complex reaction types to form organic compounds. If this reaction is possible why would people use the more complex reaction processes in organic chemistry to achieve the same product?

Is it right that only ionic crystal (ionic compound) can dissolve in water? And I know carbon dioxide (or ethanol)is molecule and is soluble in water, how does it work? Would anyone give me some information about it ( better a diagram of dissolving of CO2 into water ) And such as iron(II) ion and sulphate ion, sometimes they mix instead of reacting(not saturated), WHY???? Hope you help !
