I was reading an article about using coal to make olefins but I don't know what those are. Can anyone give me a real simple answer? I tried looking them up but they kept talking about or redirecting me to Alkene.

No, this is not a topic about obtaining sodium. A man by the name of Bob Boyce claims to have turned salt water into fuel by using electrolysis induced by radio waves to release hydrogen. Apparently, he can burn the salt water up to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit, enough to power a car or similar machinery. Although, the byproduct released is chlorine gas. Get this: the radio used to induce electrolysis was a similar device used to treat his cancer. Article Any thoughts?

I am interested in learning how slow dissolving tablets like the chlorine pool and toilet tablets work. Are there other compounds that work similarly when placed in water? any information would really help out.

Dear Friends, I am a graduate student pursuing Phd. I do a lot of NMR experiments. But unfortunately my professor has ran out of grants and hence it's difficult for us to buy certain materials for experiment. I would like to request if anybody of you can provide me C-13 labeled glucose (3 grams) for my experiment. I very badly need it to finish my experiment and get my degree. Please help me:( Thanks

im learning all about chemisrty at the mo, so i decided to put a bit of theory to praticle and i have a few questions.. i know that NaCl dissolves in water to give [Na]+ ions and [Cl]- ions when i put a current through the solution what started off as a green/yellow gas (which is now slowing turning browny/orangish) collects at the anode, am i right in thinking this is chlorine gass being given off? The only change i can see at the cathode is a change in colour around the wire, when i started it was silver now it seems to be a copper like colour, what is this? i would asume that this is the Na ions but i know its not as Na reacts violentlywith water ... …

I've been told by many wine manufacturers that consuming alcoholic drinks regularly from time-to-time can in fact be beneficial to one's health, providing some essential needed antioxidants to combat the effects of ageing. However, at the same time many health officials are warning consumers of the long term impact alcohol can have on one's life. I'm sure we've all been told at some stage in our lives that alcohol can in fact destroy brain cells and I'm wondering whether this destruction at the cellular level comes about through any consumption of alcohol (as arguably it's a poison) or whether brain cells are destroyed only when one goes on a binge drink. So, does modera…

I am buying an electronic bike kit online. This is a kit with a battery operated motor for my mountain bike that lets me travel 25 miles an hour with a range up to 20 miles. It uses a battery pack of 3, 12 volt batteries (bike needs 36V) at 12AH. I wanted this to go to my fishing hole and fish, then a few hours later return home. I even called the company to be sure the kit could do the job with all my fishing gear before I ordered. The guy I spoke to did not tell me about battery sulfasion. A fellow on an e-bike forum told me I would not be able to use the bike in this manner because if I let the bike sit any length of time before putting it on the charger it woul…

One major criticism of the use of ethanol as a fuel source is that it's "made from corn" and that switching to ethanol would raise corn prices. But what about hemp? According to , ethanol could be made from hemp as well. If that's true, then shouldn't they be using that instead?

hi. I need a periodic table which contains the elements, the electronegative,Atom Radius, ion energy and rate of reaction & e.t.c , but I don't need they're numbers, I want it to show how these properties change in the table (for ex. the Radius increases in a group from top to bottom.) Thank U;)

I have noted big disagreements of a scale of hundreds of degrees centigrade in published values for the boiling temperature of chemical elements such as tin and gallium. For example, Tin Wikipedia - 2602 °C, 2875 K, Chemical Elements website - 2270.0°C, 2543.15 K which agrees with one of my text books Penguin Dictionary of Chemistry - 2270°C but not the other Chemistry, Molecules, Matter and Change - 2720°C Gallium Wikipedia - 2204 °C, 2477 K, Chemical Elements website 2403.0 °C, 2676.15 K which agrees with one of my text books Penguin Dictionary of Chemistry - 2403 °C but not the other Chemistry, Molecules, Matter and Change - 2070 °C …

But all that sunlight is is heat energy, so by providing heat to the algae, it generates electrons?

Is it possible to have a small pill containing vitamins such as potassium, iron, sodium, calcium, and zinc designed to help sportsmen when performing. The pill would be consumed pre exercise and would give them a boost which will hopefully give them a competitive advantage. Is it possible to combine these vitamins in one pill and have them affect you quickly in the short term? Thanks Charlie

I'm currently working on a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) project in my instermentation course and my group has chosen to do an analysis of penicillium mold on different types of cheese. I've searched for some reasources on the itnernet that might help me prepare my samples without disturbing the mold structures while ensuring the machine is not damaged during anaylsis. I have an idea of how I might go about it, but wanted to double check with others who may have had previous experience with SEM. Any suggestions on specimen prep??? Thanks!!

I've recently got into the idea of renewable energy and i'm exploring what opportunities there are. One idea i've come up with is using mirrors to focus the suns heat onto a section of the sea, this heat would be so intense that the seat water would evaporate off to form steam and this can then (smiler to how it happens with nuclear power) turn turbines and then in turn turn a generator to produce electricity. This is just an idea, and i'm not sure if its been done before but is it a feasible concept? Thanks Charlie

Is it possible to combine compounds to be constantly reacting with each other to produce heat? If so what is the most heat a reaction could produce and how long will it last? What compounds would be best to get this effect?

What are the health benefits of drinking soft drinks? I've heard that soft drinks are high in phosphorus and because of this many farmers have given their hens carbonated soft drinks as some claim that it makes the egg shells harder and hence more resistant to cracking during transportation when being sold in a market. But are there any other health benefits? I'm also confused whether the phosphorus in soft drinks is actually a good think. I've done a bit of research and according to some sites it causes de-calcification of bones. How is this possible? I thought phosphorus was good! What are the health benefits of drinking soft drinks?

I am wanting to do an experiment where I show my students a chemical reaction. I was thinking of doing a smoke bomb that I made at home, but I am not sure if a smoke bomb is a chemical reaction. Can anyone please help me with this?! If it is not a chemical reaction, then does anyone have any ideas of a safe chemical reaction to do with my students?
