  1. I have some questions 1. What is the theoretical value for molar absorptivity of Iron(III)thiocyanate at 465 nm 2. What is the theoretical value for Keq of Iron(III)thiocyanate 3. How do complex ions work? 4. Do interactions between complex ions affect the molar absorptivity or other parameters.

  3. So, if you split a grape and leave just enough where the skin is attached, and place it in the microwave it sparks, its on Youtube if you haven't seen it. Lots of people say this is plasma, which i think is actually incorrect. Does the grape spark because of the specific conditions with the ski still attached, causing an arc. Is the arc generated via the water and sugars being heated and essentially "arcing" over the grape? I think it's just these specific conditions like make this happen..much like when you crush peppermints in the dark, you see a glimpse of light due to the material on the peppermints... -or I could be wrong too.. ~EE

Quick question here, does anybody know of a way to dissolve polysaccharides that does not affect DNA. It must leave DNA completely intact.

They're both hydrocarbons, they're both nasty, which is more sustainable, economical, environmentally friendly, and efficient? Lets look at some chemistry below Propane's chemical structure is C3H8, it has less carbon than gasoline whom's chemical structure is 2C8H18 and therefore produces less Co2 with a 5o2 reaction. Propane gas isn't very powerful when it comes to combustion, although it produces more heat than gasoline, it isn't as explosive under pressure and you need more of it to have an explosive reaction Propane is wayyyyy cheaper than gasoline, as the average price of gasoline is $1.80/gal, versus the average price of propane is $0.02/gal. (Gaseous f…

Recently I've been looking for a bottle - something that will last longer than normal bottles you can buy in local shop. I thought about something made from stainless steel, but such things are usually too small to hold enough water. So after few hours of walking from one shop to another, I found one which had the biggest variety of products. I chose tritan bottle. I bought it yesterday and used it today for the first time. Water has a different taste in comparison to normal bottle, I am unsure about the cause. Anyway, I did research today on tritan, trying to find more information about its effects. I came across many articles, all of them were about lawsuit - yo…

  8. Hi all, If anyone has had experience with preparing and dosing prednisolone, I would greatly appreciate your advice on a few things. I am looking to prepare prednisolone in 0.5% methyl cellulose - preferably at a concentration of 2 mg/mL. Does anyone have experience using 0.5% MC as a vehicle for prednisolone? How is prednisolone’s stability in MC? Also, could you tell me how often you prepared the prednisolone solution for dosing? Any information would be great. Thanks!

  10. I take my anti anxiety medication as needed (klonopin), and there are times I don't take any meds for months if not years so I would like to preserve them as best as I could: So basically I am looking for long term storage of my medication and I believe poly bags, (the ones that say 100% virgin polyethylene film) are made out of polyethylene which is chemically inert, which possibly means its a perfect long term storage bag for medicine. However, I am no expert so I just wanted to confirm this with someone knowledgeable in this. Am I correct? I will put my meds into a poly bag, and wrap that into a foodsaver bag and vacuum seal. The foodsaver bag is made out of po…

  12. Hi I have read conflicting things on this and more than just a little confused: firstly what will be the end products also why? These are the things I have read which seem to be conflicting: That NaCl will dissolve due to the lone pairs of electron on the oxygen and the partial positive charge from the protons. But I have also read that adding NaCl will have no effect. I'm especially interested in the effect of adding NaCl to speed up/slow down rate of reaction. Thank you!

Theoritically we have read that ketones do not get directly oxidized by potassium permanganate aqueous solution. However, when I tried doing so with acetone, the pink color did diffuse to red, then orange and then yellow;but very gradually. This means acetone was oxidized by kmno4! How should I account for this?

hello, I'am in high school and doing a science fair project on chemicals and heavy metals found in both natural water sources and bottled water. I'am looking to see if any one has any information on this topic, preferably a list of chemicals or heavy metals found in either bottled water or natural water sources. Any reply is greatly appreciated.

  17. Can the bonds of atoms in materials break and reform when an energy is exposed to them? For instance you have a cup of liquid made up of iron atoms. If you hold a certain type of energy near it, it turns into a solid block of iron. When you pull hte power source away, it turns back into a liquid. I am also looking for websites to learn more.

This may belong in physics. I was just reading the wiki on zirconium and it says this: "Naturally occurring zirconium is composed of five isotopes. 90Zr, 91Zr, 92Zr and 94Zr are stable. 94Zr can undergo double beta decay (not observed experimentally) with a half-life of more than 1.10×1017 years. 96Zr has a half-life of 2.4×1019 years, making it the longest-lived radioisotope of zirconium. Of these natural isotopes, 90Zr is the most common, making up 51.45% of all zirconium. 96Zr is the least common, comprising only 2.80% of zirconium.[12]" At first glance it seems counter intuitive that the most stable isotope is the least abundant. If earth formed with typic…

hi. I am no scientist but just very curious. I have seen and read some material about ionoprinting. my questions are: - Does the solid state that result from putting a current through the hydrogel is strong enough to support some forces applied onto it(or just like playdough and maleable?) - can we just reverse the current to have the hydrogel taking back its original consistency/shape? - Can the process be repeated unlimited amount of times without degeneration of the product? thanks.

I am currently studying chemistry on the side with the hope of building a home chem lab for fun, research, and possibly even some eventual profit. Does anyone have any suggestions? In particular I'm thinking about how I will approach building my materials and supplies. What are some useful chemicals that can be quickly and easily synthesised from common household ingredients? What are some good sources of free (I'm 100% broke) literature on the subject of home chemistry? Where should I target my studies first so that I can get hands on as quickly as possible while remaining safe and practical (keeping in mind I am literally 100% broke and have access to nature and the…
