Ok. I was looking up something about cycloalkanes when this question popped up : Is it possible to have CycloalkEnes? So i looked it up, and there was something about trans- and cis- , can u please explain this to me, i read about it but i couldn't understand it! ok. One more, this substance looks EXTREMELY familiar, what is it? I know it looks deformed! But i'm not picasso. I drew it myself, using my own powerpoint presentation!

You might consider this question to have an obvious answer but, sadly, I don’t! So, let me begin to explain my predicament. When, say, 1M of Na is reacted with 1M of HCl the equation will be as follows: Na + HCL ---> NaCl + ½ H2 This reaction is supposed to be vigorous because so much H gas is released. However, according to my calculations, only 1g of H2 will be released from the above equation if both Na and HCl are themselves of 1M quantity. In the reaction between Cs and HCl, another supposedly vigorous reaction, if the Cs and the HCl are both of a quantity of 1M, the amount of H2 gas produced will be again: 1g. I thoug…

This was taken from a MSNBC Article. GENOA, Ill, July 7 — In a blinding flash, the routine high school chemistry experiment turned to chaos. An alcohol-fueled fireball shot into the classroom, searing the skin of three junior honor students in the front row. They took the brunt of the blast on their faces, necks, arms, hands and legs. The teacher pulled burning jeans off one of the girls; scorched skin fell from the boy’s face. The rest of the class scrambled for the door, leaving burned backpacks and books behind. ....... Almost all of the accidents and injuries could have been prevented with simple safety measures, experts said. But many teacher…

I'm assembling a home laboratory to perform experiments, and after a thorough search of the internet I'm unable to find a supplier that offers condensers for a reasonable price... the cheapest condenser I can find out there is $85... which is equal to my total budget to get all the glassware I need. I'm sure someone out there knows where to get a cheaper condenser, and also other kinds of glassware, so by all means share the knowledge

I really need some help. I'm having to do a module on organic chemistry as part of my degree but I don't understand any of it as I havent done chemistry since GCSE! I'm really confused as to how to identify functional groups and how to name compounds. My lecturer has told me to read my to read my lecture notes and text books but they don't go into the basics which is what i need. Any help would be fully appreciated as I need to pass this module in order to carry on with my course Thanks

hi my name's Collin I'm a Computer Science student at UAA AlaskA. I'm in the process of making a 3d engine using opengl which uses rigid body dynamics and the Finite element method to simulate extremely interactive enviornments. (wood burns, steel melts, glass shatters, gass's compress) I need a method for modeling the physical properties of atoms and molecular compounds. given an atom or a molecule and it's temperature I need to be able to determine: -the strength of the material (compression and tension) -surface-tension / flexibility -mass -density -elastisity -cleavage -appearance (color, reflecitions etc...) also Givin a set of atoms and molecu…

Is dipole moment a force or work? Since moment of force is torque; & torque is work; I don't know whether to make the same assumption for dipole moment. Well, thanks. =) Or maybe its something else?

How different is the mineral content in distilled and demineralized water? I would like to get some demineralized water but I can't find it anywhere. So I wonder if I should settle for distilled.

you know, I have another basic question that I can't seem to get figured out *scratches head* but I know how much you guys love science anyways:D so... calculate the pH of a solution formed by dissolving 0.045 moles of solid sodium lactate NaC3H5O3 in 250 mL of 05 M HC3H5O3. Assume that colume change is negligible there are a few more like that too and I almost worked it out but that's alright:D I think if I get some sleep instead of trying to do it on an empty stomache and 2 hours of sleep I might be able to get it;) but I'm not that patient

Trimellitic acid contains, C, H, and O and is 51.44%, 2.88%, and 45.68%, respectively, in these elements. It can be obtained by oxidation of coal with nitric acid. A 2.416g sample of this compound was dissolved in 40.0 g of acetone, producing a solution that boils at 56.64'C. K(subscript b) [boiling point depression constant] for acetone is 1.71'C/molal. Pure acetone has a boiling point of 56.20'C. From the percentage composition, determine the empirical formula. What is the empirical weight of the compound in grams per empirical unit. --- How do I do this. I have a feeling that most of the info given is irrelivant. I don't have my book with me

In my chemistry class we've been taught how to find out if a website is legitimate in information that it provides and how to tell if the information there is fake. He pointed out that .com, .net, ~/.com says that you need to get suspicous about the info given. If it is .gov, .edu, or .org maybe the info is true and it need supportive reasons from other info and the site needs to show proof that this is true. If i go to a website and put something i want find out about (search engine) lets say heroin. Then a bunch of sites pop up in the search that is a bunch of trash and doesn't have any proof of what the person is trying to talk about. Is their any trick…

About ten years ago I was forced out of my house by the EPA and the Army Corp. of Engineers because they beleived our house had high amounts of radioactive matter mixed in to the mortar used to construct the house. My parents were given market value of the house and it was taken apart piece by piece then shipped to a land fill in Utah. When the media reported on the incident they made the EPA look like heroes that saved our lives from "cancer causing" radon fumes. They also made it seem as if we hit the jackpot and recieved large sums of money from the government when actually all we got was the market value of the house. Even though we were compensated it still doesn…
