Well, first time I'm posting here. Well, here it goes! I have heard of lymphocytes that produce antibofies and phagocytes that gobble up bacteria. Are there any other white blood cells? What do they look like (e.g phagocyte has a lobed nucleus)

I'm helping my daughter with her science fair project which is to be a test of the effectiveness of various mouthwashes that are sold in grocery stores. To do this, we want to culture various swabs from the mouth (we've decided to use her brother for the sample... in multiple agar (soy tryptic) petri dishes. After the culture is established, a drop of each mouth wash will be applied to the culture and labeled. The effects of each mouthwash will be documented with slides made from samples at each point in time including a description of the initial effect of the mouthwash on the culture along with a slide preparation using a gram stain kit followed by obse…

Enlight of the new studies in Korea. Do you think it is amoral to use cloning to study Nature vs Nuture?? If cloning was allowed I think this could bring new light onto the nature vs nuture debate. 1) We could really test how much does a fetus experience in the womb. 2) We can place them all around the world, in different cultures, different social classes, different eating habits etc. I personally side with 80-90% nuture and 20-10% Nature and I think this would help greatly. What do you guys think

While aware that two X chromosomes produce a female offspring, and one X and one Y produce the male, and while this does vary amongst organisms, ( and can consequently be reversed in select species), what would occour in the case of two Y chromosomes? Is it even possible? I recall reading a truely entertaining piece of literature, entitled, or rather on the subject of, the science behind the tv show, the x-files, and in the book I remember a paragraph which stated that if a human were created with two Y chromosomes, they would be "alien", so I suppose saying if a "human" were created...is rather contradictory. Is thier any truth behind this concept?

hmm... Something very logical but i can't explain it. See, you know when you brush ur teeth with a mint toothpaste, then drink water? Why does the water appear colder than its actual temp.? And the same to hot (spicy) stuff. Why is it when you have something spicy, it burns ur mouth? It's a chemical inside the food, i forgot what it was. What is the name of that substance. And then, why is it that you can't have something warm after something spicy? IT appears that the something warm is about 500 degrees! And why is it that you can't have a soft drink like coke? Curious..... Thanx guys

It's 02:10 right now, and though I still have a lot of interesting threads to read here and other places, I realy feel I need to get to bed to get up in a reasonable time tomorrow (or today, whichever you prefere to think of it as). Then I have one question that has occured for me. I know that if one take an hours nap during work, one will feel much better and work better afterwards. I even know that some companies has started with a mandatory sleeping hour for the employies. But normaly people sleep during the night, for about 1/3 of the 'day' (what is the english word for day and night combined?). Is it healthier and more efficient to take all the sleep in …

I have found a pretty good one for animals yet cannot find any for the other kingdoms. Anyone got any sites? Im doing a project and need to trace some species through their orders, families, ect. It would be great if someone could give me a link to a database like this. Thanks in advance for any help =]

Well, something popped up while i was having my dinner. My father and I had totally different preference on the dish- curry chicken. I found it very tasty but my dad totally disagrees. So, i was wondering does our taste have anything to do with ur genes? Is it encoded or is it cultivated by the environment? However, taste and prefernce is such an individualistic uniquesness that i sometimes wonder is there is some kind of relation with our genes? Is there a gene for taste and preference?

Ever watched an ordinary clock, the sort with hands on? you can see the second hand moveing quite easily, MAYBE sometimes the minutes hand if they`re long enough, but certainly not the Hour hand, and yet it clearly DOES move I was wondering, what is the smallest movement that the eye (or brain) can detect and what factors govorn it? I use the term "smallest" but slowest may apply too.
