Will science ever come to and end? or will it continue infinately? By definition, we cannot know about what we do not know about! Science might eventually dwindle as all the "low hanging apples" currently accessable to humans run out. This is not to say that humans will have discovered all natural phenomena, simply that it may be increasingly difficult for them to make additional discoveries. Alternatively, there may be unexpected new discoveries, or ways of understanding natural phenomena, that may greatly expand the abilitity of humans to discover new things. By 1900, most scientists believed that almost all scientific principles had already been discovere…

How can you have 2 hydrocarbons, one propane, other is isobutane, both have a autoignition temp of < 1000 deg F, and when combined, the AI temp becomes higher- about 1600 deg F? There has to be an additive, right? Any way to predict AI temps? Any physical chemists/engineers here? Thanks!

Hello all. I am studying a BSc Hons Degree in Animal Science & Management and am required to do a Dissertation on a topic of my choice. The topic I have decided to base my study on is Anthrozoology. My Dissertation studies the link between Anthropomorphism (associating human characteristics/emotions to animals) and the way we treat our pets. To prove this I have produced a short survey which I would be grateful if any MALE candidates could fill out. All submissions are anonymous. (Link Below) The reason for Males is due to my current statistics showing: 84% Female and only 16% Male. Thank You All! http://www.surveybuilder.com/s/JKZ49A7-QAA?source_id=3…

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on an idea I have been playing with i.e. is it possible or completely impossible due to the laws of physics? Has it been done before (I can't find anywhere)? Is it completely unachievable? If this is a rubbish idea please feel free to say. The idea revolves around being able to focus a small beam of light onto a given xyz co-ordinate in the atmosphere. As can be seen from playing with magnifying glasses and the sun as a child, its possible to focus light rays onto a point to such a degree of accuracy that the point becomes small enough to burn. If one was to take a light source (LED or something) and control a len…

Why is it that, after some time in the freezer, ice cubes (in a usual open ice-cube tray) get white, porous, and start taking up all the bad smells in your fridge ? Couldn't find an answer on the web ... Nicolas

As you may have noticed, asthma is on the increase. There appear to be two forms - allergic and non-allergic. Moreover, there are an estimated 150 million people worldwide with asthma. I think the dominant form is allergic asthma. However, what are the causes? Are they genetic, because I doubt that the genetic profile would have changed that much? Or are the changes environmental, or social? Any ideas? Asthma Article

I lifted that from the comments of the linked post. In light of some recent exchanges, it resonated. We discuss peer-review and issues of getting published from time to time. Here's something I ran across that discusses it a little. It's in the latter half of the post. http://recursed.blogspot.com/2010/02/susan-mazur-perpetually-clueless.html

If quantum energy travels about, if it collided could it cause such a thing as spontaneous human combustion. If a person were able to " Jump" useing this energy and actually be in multiple places at the same time, if that energy were disrupted during travel as to delay arrival, it could then collide with another atom of that same energy. Please forgive me for my seaminly ignorance, I have a hard time with communicating what I see.

What a fascinating piece of technology! The industry obviously failed to get the market primed for this new format change, what with the economy and consumers that are getting tired of the hype. The technology itself is pretty great, quality-wise. I'm not that into the depth of experience offered with Blu-ray movies, watching the endless "making-of", deleted scenes and inside stories offered, but the picture and sound quality are definitely a cut above. My problem is that, with the earlier format war with HD DVD and the slow market, the Blu-ray players have moved past my original dilemma of how to keep playing my DVD collection while building a new format library…

Is a nuclear bomb possible if we build it out of other fissionable materials? Like Fermium or maybe some other heavier element? Could the explosion be increased in size in this way?

i was curious if anyone had any input on weather or not melting wood would be plausable in conditions where there wasnt any oxygen, some people belive it would turn to charcoal, but i belive it would very well melt considering, you need 3 main things to have a fire. fuel oxygen and a source of ignition, take away one and it should not ignite into flames therefore at a certain tempature, it would melt.

okay, someone on yahoo Answers asked: ''Which microorganism is most tolerant when changing PH level and why? I said yeast because it can only be changed with salt or oil. Im probably wrong. '' I searched the net but i just didn't find anything that answered it. (i have to say i wasn't THAT thorough) the question fascinated me so i came over here to see if anyone can tell me WHICH MICROORGANISM that most tolerates a change in the pH? so anyone?

Hi, I'm a programmer and was just playing about with some AI for a game. There is a moving object http://www.ahappydea...oduct_31869.htm <b><b> which has a target point it is travelling to. It will travel to this point directly except it may need to evade a circular area. I'm trying to find the point to use as an intermediary target to evade the circle. Attached is an image which shows the situation. On that image: Point a is the target of the object Point b is the object itself Point c is the center point of the circle to avoid Point d is the point we're trying to find Points a, c and d are known The length of the dotted line…

Being a beginner I have a long way to go before having as many models. It's the old case of big wishlist and small wallet At the moment I'm being very selective on the models I can buy. First, introductions about RC helicopters. RC enables you DIY your games. While collecting RC helicopters, i also make some DIYs, eg, the ceiling fan. Wow, can you imagine your ceiling fan turns out to be a helicopter? Very cool! I surf many RC helicopter forums and do online shopping. Forums give me infomations which helps me to choose. Mostly I visit Geartaker to select my favored helicopters. Geartaker.com carries a wide variety of electric remote control products including RC…

What do you think of Google+? I'm liking it. I think Google got it right this time. Circles are great. I believe it encourages networking. When they implement apps and social games I hope they make sure it does not pollute my stream. Also, I think "sparks" is useless. ------------------------------------------------- My blog: Nauka jezyka angielskiego przez internet

Does anyone know a simple optical method to determine the focal length (FL) of a concave lens? A method which doesn't require any kind of precision instrument, such a pair of callipers to physically measure the degree of curvature of the glass surface of the lens. In the case of a convex lens, there is such a method. The convex lens converges light rays to a focus, at which an image forms. So all you have to do, to find its FL, is hold the lens against a sheet of white paper. Then move the lens away from the paper, until a distinct image appears on the paper. When the image is at its sharpest, the distance between the lens and the paper, gives you the FL. …

It has always been assumed all dinosaures such as Brontosaurus, triceratops and others like these were reptiles and they couldn't have been mammals because they lay eggs and no mammals were around back then. Well for a while now scientists have been debating this since they do have more mammal traits than reptiles and there are mammals today that do lay eggs. I found this article online by a Dr. Velikovsky and the article appeared in the KRONOS Journal in about 1978. R.Solàrion. I would quote it for you but instead here is the link for it. My link and it's not the only link I have found that have suggested these animals were mammal not reptile and it makes since …
