Hi. Doing some aeroponics for culinary herbs indoors, and found in publications there is mention of need for oxygen to flow around the roots together with the fertilizing nutrients on fine mist. Seems to me that all 'experts' in aeroponics focus in root oxygenation from air flow and simply ignore/forget the nitrogen action. ----> Isn't nitrogen to the roots more important than the oxygen for the plant growth success ? That is what fertilization is all about... I think.

  3. I've taken several courses on microscopy and I was just wondering why it is that nobody has tried to make a microscope that uses gamma rays? If I'm not mistaken such a microscope would theoretically give much higher resolution and magnification than even an electron microscope, because the wavelength of an electron dwarfs the wavelength of a gamma ray (ie. gamma rays have much shorter wavelengths than electrons do). I mean I know you wouldn't be able to use it to study living organisms, but in principle why couldn't we build one?

so i dont know if any of the terms i'm about to use are correct, but this is just something im randomly very curious about. Does hair have a magnetic field where it can be attracted if something has the right polarized charge. Or is there a way to charge a hair in order to magnitze it and attract it. Again no idea if im even using the right terms, just wondering if an object emits a certain field polar or magentic or electormagnetic whatever the right term is, if it will attract the hair to it. Any light shed on the matter would be appreciated, and sorry if everything i said really makes me sound stupid lol. Thanks.

How about we just cover the Earth's equator with a friggen long railway track, plant a train on it, attached on an indestructible cable which is hooked up on the moon? Do I need to go any further than this? Basically the moon's momentum will pull the train around the planet generating power. It may sound insanely stupid but why the hell not?

  8. Hi. Tree roots invade septic sewer leach pipes in search of moisture, and there is nothing to remedy it but replacing the clogged pipes. Chemicals do kill roots in the system, but kill the trees too. And even if chemicals kill the roots in the pipes, the clogging stays anyway; does not clear the obstruction. Mechanically cutting off and removing (if possible) the roots in the pipes does not clear the clogged pores in the leach lines either. What if, inside new pipes, a metal conductor is left all along; and for a few minutes (or seconds) daily, electricity is applied on a timer. Any predictions in effectivity to prevent root invasion ? (120VACphase)----…

  9. Hi, I'm a final year psychology undergraduate and I'm doing research into people's thoughts and feelings about daily temptations in the areas of work/chores, food, exercise, drugs, socialising and finances. It's part of my interest in ego depletion and the resource model of self-control. The survey is up and running but I'm struggling to find places where I can post the link. Does anybody know of communities or forums that might be open to it? I have 13 responses right now through my facebook and I need about 500. The survey is anonymous, very straightforward and takes about 15 min. The link is here so you can see it's legit. Any ideas or advice much appreciated…

See no botanics or agricultural or gardening in the forums, so am planting it here... What happens or not happens in a plant growing upside down that seems not to affect its development, growth and productivity, while being so unnatural ? Getting ready several 3 litre soda bottles and a few commercial brand planters to experiment in the coming spring, and compare with the normal upside up in my vegetable garden. Tomatoes and strawberries are on mind, I would post progress pictures periodically. If there is a plant choice that you know would be more successful than others, or interesting to try, please suggest.

  12. Given that I am in a second semester general chemistry course, atmospheric pressure has been discussed. I was wondering why we do not feel the effects of the atmosphere's intense pressure? Following this: http://suite101.com/article/weight-of-earths-atmosphere-a56021 and a previous calculation that I did on my own, the atmosphereic pressure is actually rather high (in terms of pounds.) Why do we not feel this? I understand that, given evolutionary theory, our bodies may have adapted to this standard pressure, but I feel as though there may be a rather large disparity between atmospheric pressure at the coast and pressure at 3,333 ft. Given that the pres…

  13. There's almost always a secular explanation for just about anything that religions prefer to attritube to God. Atheism is now a socially acceptable personal policy, due to the atheistic explanations that science has provided for such previously-inexplicable phenomena as... weather... day and night... seasons... and the presence of petroleum on our planet. Some people like to claim that science only shows how God did it, rather than disproving that God exists altogether. I'm not here to discuss that. Maybe science is God's method for creating the universe; maybe science created itself. For the purposes of this thread, I do not care in the slightest. What I'm her…

  14. CORRECT SCIENTIFIC PROCEDURE IN SCIENCE ESPECIALLY PHYSICS After consulting Swansont to start a new thread for continuation of the following discussion, which I believe then belongs in this forum. 17. Inspired by Harry Stine's book "The Third Industrial Revolution" I'm posting this new thread. For those of you who haven't read it, it's about moving the production of alot of things to space instead of earth, like metals, medicine and alot more, and the benefits the human race would gain if that were to happen. An example: We, as a civilization, decide to move all the production of metals, steels etc. into space. Instead of transporting raw materials from earth to the space, which would be very costly, to manufacture we use the planetoid belts and asteroids for raw materials, since they consist of eg. Iron, alluminium etc. The good thing about this is less poll…

  20. (Reuters) - Switzerland hopes to restart talks with the U.S. over a long-simmering tax dispute following the re-election of president Obama, its economy minister was quoted as saying on Sunday. Switzerland is trying to reach a deal to end investigations by U.S. tax authorities into 11 banks, including Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX) and Julius Baer (BAER.VX), suspected of helping clients dodge U.S. taxes with the help of offshore bank accounts. It needs the tax deal so that it can normalise its banking relations with the United States and wants the investigations dropped in return for the payment of hefty fines by the Swiss banks and the transfer of names of thousands of U.S. cli…

  21. Started by Valery Staricov,

First of all, I was guided by my theory of interrelation between the conflict and control under creation of my theory of social progress. And also I was guided by the theory of biological evolution of Charles Darwin. This theory of Darwin has become for me a sample for imitation under creation of my theory of social progress. Besides, I have drawn conclusions from errors of a utopia of Marx about communism and failures of Marxist experiment in Russia. The negative result of Marxist experiment in Russia is too result for me. The conflict and control is major human relations in society. Progress of society leads to the invention everything new and new types of the conflict …

Hey everyone, I have a few questions about physics, engineering and so on... The thing is I'm currently 18 years old... Studying IT and i know quite a lot about computer.. well compared to the most people i know... but that's not important. Since my school didn't really work out the way i wanted... I wasn't able to get that much into engineering, physics and robotics as much as i wished... So the question is if i want to start learning about all this stuff, where do i begin? there is just so much knowledge i'd like to learn but i'm lost and have no idea where to begin :/ So if you could help me and point me of what should i start with, it would be gr…
