  4. Let's suppose that I have certain modes previously determined for a tube that is open/closed, how do you find the equivalent modes but for a tube that is open/open? EDIT: I was thinking that I could use the formula of L=n x lambda/2, then isolate n and find the answer like that; however the only issue would be that I don't know the L of the new tubes

I have another "essay" question. You received water from a local lake to determine the bacterial cell count, you did the count using both direct microscopic count and the plate count methods. Which methods would likely give you a higher bacterial count? Why? I thought at first it was the direct microscopic count because it counts both dead and live cells. Then I started thinking it was the late count method because of the way the cells/colonies are counted. Now I'm just not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an essay question on one of my assignments and I would love some help or maybe to be lead in the right direction. I'm struggling with this chapter in Microbiology and my instructor is just not helping me understand it! The question is : Is molecular oxygen the only substance that can be used as an electron acceptor in bacterial metabolism pathways? Why? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Know of a website or online lecture I could watch that might help explain? Thanks!

  19. Hi friends! I can't quite decipher this graph. The top portion shows P. aurelia bacteria and the bottom one shows P. caudatum bacteria. My professor said that the bottom graph is an example of asymmetric competition (one is better than the other. In this case, the P. aurelia is better). The decrease in fitness is clear as the graph progresses in time in unit days. What I don't understand is why if both bacterium are mixed in each graph, does one show decrease why the other doesn't. I know that they are being compared to different bacteria. The only thing I can think of is the units in volume are different for each graph. For the top graph the intervals a…

Hello, I am not too sure on this one, but I think it is E? b/c the plants are abundant and evenly distributed. In the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California there are many populations of the checkerspot butterfly Euphydryas editha. You notice that females of one population lay their eggs near the tip of a plant’s stem (population A). Females of another population in the same area lay their eggs at the base of the stem on a different type of plant (population B). The young hatch out as caterpillars; they live on the host plant and eat its leaves. The different plants used by the checkerspot butterfly populations are both abundant and evenly dispersed in the habitat…

I think I'm just blanking on the algebra. Problem: A slide projector (old book) needs to project a 98 cm high image of a 2cm tall slide. The screen is 320 cm from the slide. What focal length does the lens need? How far should the lens be from the slide? So, image-height = 98 cm. object-height = 2 cm. object-distance + image-distance = 320 cm. Formulas are 1/do + 1/di = 1/ f and hi/ho = - di/do. Should be able to find f, but can't.....
