[math]x=81-t^2[/math] [math]y=t^3-16t[/math] After asking about tangent lines, the question asks "The curve makes a loop which lies along the x-axis. What is the total area inside the loop?" I thought I was supposed to combine these equations so that there were no t's and then integrate it. I found that [math]y=(81-x)^{3/2}-16\sqrt{81-x}[/math] And, after looking at the curve, it looks like the answer for the Area should be [math]\int_{65}^{81} [(81-x)^{3/2}-16\sqrt{81-x}] \,dx=-4096/15[/math] I've tried this answer both negative and positive and it's been wrong. Maybe I haven't found the equation of the curve correctly or integrated correctly. Does anyone see my…

So, my math professor assigned homework over the break on material he didn't cover in class and that is not in our text book. Any help would be appreciated... Ok, we're supposed to use basic trig identities to get the integral down to something manageable where we can use u-substitution and/or integration by parts. I've worked out one but I'm having trouble on the other two... 1. the integral of (cos(x))^4 dx. [Hint: also (cos(x)^2)^2] 2. the integral of sec(v) dv. [Hint: multiply sec(v) by (sec(v)+tan(v))/(sec(v)+tan(v)).] Some identities to use: sin(2x)=2sin(x)cos(x) cos(2x)=(cos(x))^2-(sin(x))^2 cos(2x)=2(cos(x))^2-1 cos(2x)=1-2(sin(x))^…

Consider a man riding a bicycle on a horizontal road around a circle. The situation is as simple as one imagine. If we need to find the angle which the inclined bicycle makes with the horizontal ground, we consider the torque. But why can't we take the point of contact of the bicycle and the ground into account? Error yields showing that there's always a net torque by the weight to rotate the bicycle. Anyone helps? please

I'm taking a Calculus I/II lab, and we're using classic Maple. Well, here's the story: A week ago I was about to turn in my second homework assignment when I tried to pull up the Maple sheet I had saved on the schools network and received the message "There were problems during the loading process. Your worksheet may be incomplete." With that, over half of my homework was gone. My professor made me rework some of the problems and suggested I save my next assignment to a flash drive as a back-up. This week, I saved my homework to my flash drive. Everything was working fine all day until 30 minutes ago I try to load my worksheet, and again, over half of my work is gone. I t…

I have a trig project due on Tuesday and I have no idea how to solve it. (I have an idea but want to make sure I'm right) The problem goes as follows: An artist is creating triangular ceramic tiles for a triangular patio. The patio will be an equilateral triangle with base 18ft and height 15.6 ft. a. Find the area b. The artist uses tiles that are isosceles triangles with base 6 in. The function y=3 tan O (O means Theta...) models the height of the tiles, where O is the measure of one of the base angles. Graph the function. Find the height of the tile when O=30degrees and when O=60degrees c. Find the area of one tile in square inches when O=30 degrees and 60 degree…

god i feel dirty for doing this but i have a total mental block on two problems so i just need a point in the right direction. number 1 is: Find a solution of the differential equation Dy/Dx=(2x^2+y^2)/(2xy) (x>0 , y>0) which satisfies y=1 and x=1 and number 2 is: (1+x)Dy/Dx + 4y = 1/(x+1) (x (cannot equal sign) -1)

Cheers! Sarah

Hello! I'm thinking about the following problem at the moment: Four bugs sitting at the corners of the unit square begin to chase one another with constant speed, each maintaining the course in the direction of the one pursued. Describe the trajectories of their motions. What is the law of motion (in cartesian/polar coordinates)? I heard the problem is fairly known but I think I need some guidance now. Now I started with polar coordinates and got stuck with what to do with r(t) in: [math]\frac{d}{dt}\vec{r(t)}=\frac{d}{dt}{r(t)}\vec{e_r}+r(t)\frac{d}{dt}\vec{e_r}[/math] I mean the objective is a diff. equation isn't it?... but what should I do with the v…
