I require some help please. I know : Rule: T/J = t/r = GΘ/L L = length = 0.33 r = radius = 0.025 D = diameter = 0.5 The starting points and stages would help. I have to hand this in next wednesday, i thought i would ask the community. ------ Determine the distribution of shear and angular deflection due to torsion in a circular shafts. 1-Calculate the maximum shear stress produced in the shaft due to torsion. 2- Calculate the maximum shear strain 3-Calculate the angle of twist between the two pulleys. I've been given this question as a part of a revision tutorial. I've already done the calculations but was wondering if anyone could point out any glaring errors. This is not an assessed piece of work, so strictly not homework per se. The turnover number of carbonic anhydrase: Carbonic anhydrase of erythrocytes (Mr 30,000) has one of the highest turnover numbers among known enzymes, it catalyses the reversible reaction of CO2: H2O + CO2 -> H2CO3 This is an important process in the transport of CO2 from the tissues to the lungs. If 10μg of pure carbonic anhydrase catalyses the hydration of 0.30g of CO2 in 1min at 37°C at Vmax, and the reaction volume is 1m…

hi guys, i have been trying to figure out this question for days now i think its a case of wrong formulas but im not entirly sure, so any help would be gratly appreciated! i have been told that monochromatic light from a laser is directed towards a diffraction grating with 300 lines per millimetre. A diffraction pattern on a screen situated beyond the grating consists of a series of spots of light. The first order spot (d) is situated 2.00m (200mm) from the centre of the grating, at a diffraction angle of 11.8 degrees, assume that the speed of light is 3.0x10^8 m s-1. the questions are......... 1) calculate the distance (s) (in mm) from the centre of the …

Hi all, Question: how would you start to approximate the costs of gene knockout experiments? I am doing a class project where I am writing a research grant proposal. My proposal involves using gene knockouts to validate malarial drug targets. (The steps include: take plasmid vectors, insert stuff using restriction enzymes, transfect into malaria, screen using southern blotting) The problem is that I am actually mostly a computational researcher. So I have no idea about how people practically buy and use these experimental items. For example, I assume there are gene knockout kits???....how do you choose which kit to buy???....how many kits do you need…

One of my course requirements is to interview a research scientist in the earth sciences and to produce a biography of that scientist as well as a synopsis of his or her research. I would greatly appreciate your responses to the following questions at your earliest convenience. 1. What was your initial motivation to enter your field of expertise? 2. What academic and/or professional preparation was required to lead to your present position? 3. What do you enjoy the most about your work? 4. What do you enjoy the least about your work? 5. I wanted to find out how much food energy it would take to run a car. Thought experiment: Starting from a stop, a 1000 kg car goes 5 km in 5 min. How many 2 oz. Snickers bars does it take to provide this energy? 5 min. = 300 s 5 km = 5000 m so velocity = ~17 m/s Energy = E(final) - E(initial) = (1/2 * mv^2) - 0 = 1/2*(1000 kg)(17 m/s)^2 = 289,000 kg (m/s)^2 = 289,000 j so power requirement is: 289,000 j/s =289,000 W sustained over 300 sec, Energy = power * time =289,000 W * 300 s =8.67 * 10^7 j 1 calorie = 4.184 joules (8.67 * 10^7 j)/(4.184 j/cal) =2.07 * 10^7 cal 1000 cal = 1 kcal (2.07 * 10^7 cal)/(1000 …

  20. I have an assessment task requiring me to identify why "carbon instead of silicon, is the "building block of life". I have formulated a few ideas about this, such as, Carbon is better because in Earths premortial state (slime and whatnot) billions of years ago, the energy required to make carbon would have been less than that required to make silicon. This can be attributed to Carbon having a smaller nucleus, therefore, less protons, neutrons and electrons. And we all know that everything likes to have a low energy level to remain as stable as possible (which isn't to say that silicon has a higher energy level, as it has 4 valence electrons also, meaning similar propertie…

hi guys Does anybody know what formula one would use to calculate how long it would take to raise the temperature of an area of x litres of air by blowing in y litres of warmer air . ie if I blow in air at 25 degrees C into an area which is at 20 degrees C , how long would it take to raise the temperature by one , two or three degrees? What I know is the volume of air (in litres) blowing in as well as the volume of air in the area (in litres) as well as the two different temperatures of both of these areas. Thanks guys:-)
