I've not seen much about this either because it's really new or people just aren't interested, but: - http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20040928%2F0515512476.htm&sc=1104&flok=NW_5-L2&floc=NW_1-T http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/3696092.stm Seems pretty significant to me.

Politicians need to start listening, or be made to listen to scientific data. Think about it for a second, its like allowing a young man (politician) to drive a car off of a cliff killing all passengers inside, while the older adult (scientist) was powerless to stop him because the kid choose not to listen to his warnings. Serriously speaking scientists understand what changes need to be done in order to secure the human race from eventual extinction. If we continue to let the politicians make the laws and not the scientists, then the human race is destined for extinction.

Last night on Bill O'Reilly, Richard Holbrooke, Kerry's likely choice for Secretary of State, said that there was "no way" the US could allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, and that a military response must be considered if diplomatic solutions fail. He also pointed out that the Israelis would likely not allow it, and that the US has sold 300 "bunker buster" weapons to Israel, which they don't exactly need to go after the Palestinians.

Here's Bill Blum, author of Killing Hope: US Military & CIA Interventions Since WWII, and other stuff. http://www.killinghope.org Democrats It gives me no pleasure to tear into the Democrats, as I've done on several occasions in this report, because I sorely wish there was a viable alternative to Bush. Kerry is viable, but he's not an alternative, particularly on foreign policy where his views are indistinguishable from those of George W. Ralph Nader is an alternative, but he's not viable because the entire electoral process is designed to make life impossible for third-party candidates. Dennis Kucinich presented himself as an alternative, but it's no exaggeratio…

Newsweek has a story that's amusingly ironic in the wake of Memogate: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6073449/site/newsweek/ In a nutshell, they're saying that CBS News and 60 Minutes had originally intended to air a different story on September 8th. The story in question involved those allegations put forth by the Bush administration just before the Iraq war that Iraq was attempting to purchase 500 tons of uranium from Niger during the embargo period. It turned out that those documents were forged, but there's been little progress since then on figuring out who created the forgeries, etc. Apparently CBS News had latched on to a break in the case and was going to report o…

NewScientist is running an article describing a radio signal from space that SETI has picked up. Signals had been detected in that region in the past, but the they had not been confirmed. Last year the telescopes were again pointed at the constellation to monitor the signals. Scientists have just finished analyzing the data and have eliminated all but one signal which has increased in strength. The radio signal has been detected on three separate occasions. They are trying to rule out natural causes, unknown phenomena, radio interference, telescope anomalies, etc. One astronomer points out that the signal's frequency drifts, which seems to indicate it is rotating li…

This is a topic I've been thinking about for some time. It seems that police officers are above the law. I want to mostly focus on traffic law. Now, understandable that a police must be able to exceed the posted speed limit in order to respond to certain calls, and this is not what I take issue with. My problem is what seems to be a growing number of police who seem to misuse there power, and vehicles, for their own entertainment, or just to get from A to B quicker. Example. Just last night my friend and I went to Huddle House around 2 am. When we left, we were heading west on highway 64. We noticed a cop approaching rather quickly behind us, blew through…

Biologists in india have found what is claimed to be a 130 million old species of frog. "The seven-centimeter long amphibian hopped around the feet of dinosaurs. Researchers say the small-headed critter belongs to a new family of frogs thought to have disappeared millions of years ago. Scientists estimated the frog family tree split about 230 million years ago. The discovery suggests this frog branched off 130 million years ago when Gondwana lost its eastern end. " The species is described in this week's Nature. Read the full news article here.

Not a theory....an explanation for logical minds: WHY GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORLD’S LEADING TERRORIST! Analysis by TvNewsLIES.org "Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." - US Federal Bureau of Investigation Read the sentence carefully. You didn’t hear it on any corporate media newscast since 9/11. It’s the official US FBI definition of terrorism. In its official definition, the FBI does not limit terrorism to stateless individuals or groups. In its official definition, the FBI do…

This thread is my offer to the politics forum as a place to mix opinions about the best ways to help Iraq become stable, and to make sure Iraqi's can live their lives again. Ways to help are the ONLY ideas that should be discussed. There are a few "rules" I would like to set though. First, you can't say "Americans should leave". No, it's clear that the United States military can't just leave. The United States is there now, that is reality, and the U.S. is to be held responsible by the world for Iraq's condition post Saddam Hussein. Also please do not say "Bush is a moron and we never should of been in Iraq". Bush may be a moron but that is not the purpose of thi…

I cannot comprehend some of the american people out there. Whatever may have happened in Vietnam, it is a fact that Kerry willingly laid his life on the line for his country while some chose not to. Kerry should be respected for that and his hearts and medals. I saw some people in the RNC wearing band-aids with purple heart on them. and claiming that they cut themself while shaving and they deserved a purple heart. Found that outstanding. and What I find more outstanding is that Kerry is on the defensive about his war record. Its a fact that he chose to fight in vietnam. Wheter that would make him a good or a bad president is another matter altogether. But Kerry deserves …

I hear people every day, complaining about some government thing done years ago. People complain about how we could (I don't think we could) have stopped 9/11, how Iraq was wrong, how another war was wrong, etc. etc. But I have a question for you: Will arguing the correctness of a serious political move or even a military involvement fix the situation? Just saying "Iraq was wrong" is not going to get Iraq fixed. We can't pull out either. So instead of griping about what we should have done, why don't we argue over what we should do to fix it? All of the debates over Iraq and 9/11 really have no point. You can't change the past by whining. You may vote differently, but t…

I read this article recently that talked about different methods of voting. Incidently, the US system turned out to be just about as bad as one could be. It very rarely provides a true reading and is very syseptable to manipulation. Since the US usuasly has two candidates with any realistic chance, the system doesn't do too bad, but throw three equal candidates into the mix and you get very poor results. The article continued with some other prosposed solutions. This is where you all come in. I would like to see what we can come up with for the most fair system. My favorite so far is call the instant run-off vote where voters rank all candidates in order from favorit…

Don't Arrest Kerry in Shotgun Incident, Gun-Law Expert Says. http://www.gunlaws.com | 10 September 2004 | Alan Korwin Don't Arrest Kerry In Shotgun Incident, Gun-Law Expert Says Gun-law expert Alan Korwin is calling for calm, in the national uproar over John Kerry’s possible serious gun violations during a recent photo op in Racine, West Virginia. The national clamor over the Democratic presidential candidate, who took possession of a Browning semiautomatic shotgun outside his home state, reflects a problem with the laws and should not be used to arrest and prosecute the man, Korwin says. A gun crossing state lines is heavily regulated. "There are s…

I have come to a few conclusions after reading all these political threads that are currently going. I hope that this thread will not digress to Kerry vs. Bush like they have all seemed to. After a while, I got fed up with everyone saying a million different things about both candidates that are pointless. I am tired of people citing trivial things that appearently proves Kerry hates the country and Bush has to be working for Iraq. I have had many varying oppinions given to me on all of this and I have come up with one thing: social issues are a whole lot easier to debate. This, I feel, is because there seems to be a more clear-cut line with social issues. One person …

I know it's a bit of a plug, but visit http://www.true-americans.org As you visit this forum, I believe you must have ideas about politics and the Mr Bush/Mr Kerry elections and so on... Well, this is some kind of forum as well... But then completely different.... You won't find endless debates, only simple images without explanation. Even more, you can send in a picture yourself to show off your candidate of choice... Enjoy!

The BBC is reporting that SETI denies the report. "It's all hype and noise," said its chief scientist, Dr Dan Wertheimer. "We have nothing that is unusual. It's all out of proportion." And Dr Paul Horowitz, of Harvard University, who specialises in hunting for possible alien contacts added: "It's not much of anything at all. We're not investigating it further."

Many vets and people are mad at Kerry because he faught to end the Vietnam conflict. Even he regrets some of the words he used, but most of it was stories he had been told, probably from other vets. Contrast this to McNamara, the architect of the Vietnam war, who says he knew all along the war was a mistake, yet kept silent and kept increasing the conflict. I don't know if he really knew from the beginning, but I am sure at some point he did know it was a mistake, yet keep quite and stay the course. Should we frown upon those that tried to end the war or those that kept it going, even when they felt it was a mistake? McNamara says the Iraq conflict is also a mi…

Astronomers have detected what could be the Solar System's 10th planet. It was first seen by astronomers using California's Mount Palomar Observatory, and has been given the name "Sedna" after the Inuit goddess of the ocean. Observations show it measures about 1,180-2,360km (730-1,470 miles) across, making it similar in size to Pluto. Astronomers now say they have evidence that Sedna has its own moon, although this needs to be confirmed, and is also very red in colour. There is likely to be some debate about whether it qualifies as a true planet, but some scientists are already saying it re-defines our Solar System. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3511678.stm

"Scientists have been able to understand the unusual phenomenon of antibubbles - the rare, reverse form of normal bubbles - by forming them in beer. Typical bubbles are thin films of liquid enclosing pockets of air, but antibubbles are a thin film of air which encloses pockets of liquid. Belgian researchers said on Monday they could make antibubbles appear in a many different liquids - not just alcohol. Dr Stephane Dorbolo details his team's work in the New Journal of Physics." The full article is available from the BBC here.
