hey...i am screwed for life... i go to a UC and i got caught plagiarising on my english essay because i used my friends rough draft instead of my own, but the thing is its only the rough draft and the final draft is COMPLETELY different and in my own words, but still the proff turned it in to the board members and i got an automatic F for the class... This is my first time and i am fed cause i had my whole mind set in going to medical school...i studied extremely hard my whole freshman and soph year and maintaned a GPA of 3.8...and now cause of that one class, it would effect my gpa tremendously, and not to mention the added bonus of plagiarism getting put into my…

The University of California Board of Regents and scientists have completely failed for over 40 years to produce a source of affordable energy to give every human being an acceptable quality of life. When I graduated from UCB 40 years ago, the most honored scientists of the Los Alamos era grandly proclaimed and guaranteed that such a source of energy would be available by the end of the 20th century. But the Los Alamos geniuses must have immediately retired from scientific life because the University of California and National Labs scientist haven’t accomplished anything for the survival of humanity during the 40 years since then. A couple of most highly respec…

I am a Junior at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, majoring in Philosophy. In a few weeks I will be conducting a science demonstration before a class of High School Seniors as a part of a service learning project for my study of the Philosophy of Science. My background in science is not very strong, so I was looking for some help in figuring out what would be a good demo. The basic goal (backed up by a presentation the previous day and group discussion immediately following) is to show how the scientific method, used correctly, does not always work in the way most students think that it does. I.e., the progression is not always observation-->hypothesis…

Hey, how's it going guys? Anyways, I'm going into University first year for the 2003-2004 academic year, beginning in September. I just want to know what you guys thought of your first year, any tips or hints I should be aware of, how it's like, how many courses you took, what type of courses, etc. etc. I know most of you are Secondary, Post-Secondary, or even Post-Graduate. So please feel free to include any comments you may have. Thanks. Oh, also, what types of supplies do you need? ie., does a personal graphing calculator really help? do i still need a compass set? etc. Oh, and I'm going into first year Mechanical Engineering. My schedule is a…

Have any of you taken this class in high school? I'm currently enrolled in it right now and I want to know what I'm in for. Unfortunately, only 7 people (including myself) signed up for the class, and the only AP stat teacher had to double up his classes. I'm basically stuck in an Algebra 2 class, and the teacher will have to divide his attention to two groups. It sucks, but I might survive. Given enough guidance, I can usually teach myself anything. So hopefully we'll get good textbooks.

Forgive me I am not in the mood to elaborate myself, please consider this: Is our school system really an efficient tool for truly teaching? I believe that it is not. It is not intelligently designed for a purpose, well not to an extent. It is an evolved form of a primitave institution, improved but far from perfect. There is another way, our education systems were not commanded to us by God, they weren't even put together by the smartest people in the world. It is somewhat amazing to think that noone questions the TRUE purpose behind the things we do, including the education system. Do tests and grades really teach us anything? Inevitable yes, but they are not designed f…

In Florida, we have a newly established standardized test that is given several times throughout K-12 education. The 10th grade test must be passed in order for a student to graduate. This has been met with protest, obviously from the people who cannot graduate only because of this. The test itself is a rather rudimentry assessment which covers very basic reading comprehension and math from basic addition and graph-reading through pre-algebra, making passing it trivial for all but the bottom 10% in the state. What does everyone think of making this test a requirement to graduate from high school? I think the protests are completely off-base, because their lead …

Colleges nowadays are too expensive.Once a child starts with high school..the parents start worrying about money. If the child is smart but poor he/she is intimidated by the fact that the smartness is of no use because they have no money to go to top private institutions. Some institiutions are expensive because of being branded. They are the ones with ppl who have studied in private prep schools and have a lot of money.Just because ppl with that social status attend these institutions the fees are high and other good students feel intimidated.I think the colleges should be reasonably priced because they all have to serve the same purpose:good education
