I'm looking at studying physics/maths at uni and want to get a masters (or further). lots of the courses i've looked at offer a choice of bsc or msc degree, but some of the interesting ones only go up to bsc. Basicly if i get a bsc how easy is it to then get a msc in in a related subject with another year or two of study? thanks in advance

I've looked into applying to an American College as an alternative means of gaining entrance. I've been out of school for a long time and my high school diploma is pretty much useless here in Canada. I've read a lot about how SAT scores are not everything when it comes to getting accepted. What if an individual scored far beyond the 'norm' would it be sufficients grounds to be granted approval to study??????? Thx!

I applied to university as a mature student (23). I'm in Ireland. The course I wanna do is a chemistry course. I was interviewed for 2 courses that were on my list the chemisty one aswell as electronic engineering. I was so nervous when I went into the chemistry course interview I messed it up completely. Did a terrible interview. Then since I didn't care too much about the electronic engineering one I wasn't nervous at all and did a brilliant interview. Now what I did was I managed to get into a pre university science course and I got pretty good marks in it so now I have something even better than a leaving cert. I assumed that would be enough to get me into that chemis…

Hey, quite recently I have been commanded to work on an assignment for school, and I've noticed a trend that seems to increase in the number of times it recurrs. My friends and I are all wikipedia buffs, and as such, we often use wikipedia as a fail- safe method to get a general picture, for research, before we start to narrow our focus, however, more and more so, we find our sometimes unnerving educators, explicitly stating that wikipedia is prohibited as a research tool, as all of the sites bear no rational information. This annoys me, as I find wikipedia to be generally accurate, with rare exception, and am actually very interested in their cause. So, I am preparing a …

I've been lurking on here for a while and decided to finally post a question. Hopefully it is a question some others can relate to. I'm in my late thirties and at a position where I can pick and choose whichever route I would like to take. Money is not so important as is just enjoying what I do. I have always wanted to get into mechanical engineering. The stuff just fascinates me. So, I enrolled with the local college to start taking the fundamental math classes (already have a B.A. in business). I'm taking trig right now, and not doing horribly, although it does require a lot of my time as I am no natural talent. My point is, I really do not enjoy math. At a…

Hello Guys, I have my Masters in EE and I am trying to figure out whether at this point( working for 3 years) I should go for my Phd in EE or gor for MBA.. I have been reading a lot on this subject and I am just more confused now. MBA in finance can get you a 6 figure salary right after school but for any other MBA ..it would be like 80k -90k. Also you spend about 100k to get that MBA if you go to a good school. Whereas for a Phd you can get aid so you dont have to shell out any money, the only draw back being that it will take me 4 years to get that PHD. And the salary would be around 90k after i graduate...I just dont know which way to go from here.. I a…

So I was talking to a chemistry teacher at our high school yesterday and he expressed his belief that high school teaches a lot of the wrong things. For example, he asked "how many people are actually going to need calculus in the real world?" (Engineers don't count because they can learn it in college instead when they specialize.) This brings up an interesting point. School has always seemed to be about cramming as much knowledge as possible down students' throats. While I think it's good for students to know math and science and English and history and so on, school has evolved from "let them know some math" to "let them know advanced calculus very well". The quest…

"In your face" is a study forming part of the research of Laura J Brown, a 3rd year BSc Biological Anthropology student at the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom. The aim of the study is to examine male perception of female facial attractiveness. The only requirements of this study are that you are male and heterosexual (if you are female, feel free to pass the link on to any suitable male friends though!). ***Complete the study and you could be 1 of 3 guys to win a crate of beer!*** The online questionnaire shouldn't take more than 30mins to complete. Please note that some of the questions are of a sexual nature, so only take part if you…

What is the best way to overhaul the education system? In a world where technology has created a fast paced global world, we seem to have forgotten to bring the education system up to date. We are teaching 21st century generations, with a 19th/20th century system. I pose we create a whole new state of the art 21st century system to teach on a global nature. Teaching all cultures and language, the business world is now global so should the education be. I strongly believe if we teach culture, it will also bring world peace. As it will be teaching understanding, tolorance, and communication. If we want to give our kids half a chance as well as keep our country strong, we ha…

Here's the problem: "Give the ground state electron configuration of maganese and draw its orbital notation." The issue is i don't have a clue on how to due this problem, it was kinda just thrown at me. In the book it shows the answer but i don't know how they got to that conclusion. This summer I'm considering taking a chemistry class at my local community college. The problem is I have dyscalculia. I know that because of my weak math skills I'm going to have a hard time with the class. Chemistry isn't required for my major. I'm simply interested in the subject. I'm willing to work hard (study more, go to tutoring - whatever it takes) but my fear is that my learning disability is too severe to overcome. Should I go for it or would it be a huge mistake? Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

I've been studying up for my GED exam and to get ready for college. So I bought the Chemistry Workbook for Dummies. There is a question that i am unsure of how to go about on it.. If any of you would like to show the steps in how to solve this type of problem i would love it.. Ok, so here it is... "Two Jewelers were asked to measure the mass of a gold nugget. The true mass of the nugget was 0.856 grams. Each jeweler took three measurements. The average of the tree measurements was reported as the "official" measurement with the following results. Jeweler A: 0.863 g, 0.869 g, 0.859 g. Jeweler B: 0.875 g, 0.834 g, 0.858 g Which Jeweler's official measur…

I have made a small excel spreadsheet which randomly generates a number between 1 and 15 (the number of students in one of my classes), then it looks up the name next to that number in the class list and displays it in large (200pt) text so the whole class can see it. I wrote a small macro and attached it to a button so that when I press the button it randomises a few times so names flicker in the display area and then stops on a particular name. The reason for this is like this: As an instructor, a useful method of divining exactly what students know is to ask questions in class. The reccomended method is to ask the question, wait, and then single someone ou…

I was just wondering if anyone will like to help me in discussing 'importance of science in children's learning'. Why is Science so important? If it's important, how does children develop scientific understanding? If science is not important in children's learning, do they ever develop scientific understanding? Grateful for your response.

Hey everyone, After a few years of work, a couple educational chemistry DVDs that I worked on are complete. The DVDs cover bonding theory and hybridization theory. I worked on the computer animation for the DVDs and tried to focus on creating an experience that is engaging and interesting (unlike most educational videos currently available). I also created our website link removed by mod where they available along with trailers for each DVD. I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here, so I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can provide about our website or products. Thank You John Kunz Link removed by mod

I'm looking for a school with a good pre-med reputation. I have decent grades, extra curricular activities, and I'm eligible for a bunch of scholarships, so tuition isn't that much of a problem. Any suggestions? I'm a sophmore by the way; just trying to get a head start.

So, I've been going through wikipedia, reforming articles on my speciality (organismal biomechanics) because so many are just awful, and I got to wondering, how many people here contribute? On one hand, I know a lot of people have disdain for it, due to the ease of vandalism. On the other, it's frequency of use as a reference makes it a potentially valuable educational tool, and I like being able to personally vouch for sections that I've written. So, does anyone else here contribute regularly?
