Hi all, Just wondering about peoples names here: How you came about them? How you pronounce them? What they mean? Mine is Tres Juicy: Tres from the French "Trés" (pronounced "trey or tray" - meaning "very") And Juicy Stemming from the fact that we used to call anything good/cool "juicy" which evolved over time to "trés juicy" due to working with a French guy. Eg: "Bob's got some trés juicy kit in his house" or "Pete just landed a trés juicy deal" I stole it for my online alias about 9 years ago and have used it ever since. What about you guys?

Hi, Maybe a little strange, but I'm wanting to start teaching one class a semster, but am unable to do so at the University I work at. I'm curious though whether my boss will appreciate this 'diversion' from his research - as a research associate. I plan to ask him before I start sending my CV around, but just curious, anyone have insight on whether this is offensive to ask? I almost feel like if I was in his position, I'd be like "Is there not enough work to do here?". Anyway, just wondering....any thougts?

Considering it's the Christmas Season, and one of his most beloved roles was in a Christmas film, I thought it would be nice to mourn. Roberts Blossom, aka Old Man Marley from Home Alone, died this year at the age of 87. It was devastating for me to find out what happened to Roberts. For those of you who didn't now, Roberts was married twice, and is survived by daughter Debbie and son Michael. Among his other famous roles included Guernsey in Arthur Hiller's The Hospital in 1971, George LeBay in Christine, and Doc in Escape from Alcatraz. I personally remembered him best as Old Man Marley, with his heartwarming scenes together with Macaulay Culkin. Rob…

Hello, I am a guy from Sweden who is on my last year in high school. This will be the first time I am posting on here on scienceforums.net. Here in Sweden, we are meant to do a project on our last high school-year. So I have decided to write an essay about "The meeting between art and science". And I would really like your help on answering a few questions regarding this. Feel free to elaborate on your own subjective opinion, or to use objective facts. I realize that art is a very subjective subject so therefore it will be interesting to see what your view on the questions are. I would be very grateful if some of you could find the time to answer my issues and if…

It turns out that I must research and discuss the Néel-Arrhenius equation. The only problem is, I don't know with a certainty how to pronounce the surnames Néel or Arrhenius. I can guess at the French name as NAY-el and the Swedish name as Ar-REY-nee-oos. However, they might be pronounced as nay-EL and so on. Does anyone know with some certainty how to pronounce these names. Please don't let me go blindly into the night.

Most people put a "signature" at the bottom of their posts. I change mine quite frequently in response to various thoughts. My first "signature" was a quote from the TV program "Bread" and was " The only good thing about getting old is that you don't have to give a bugger". Bearing in mind that I am quite old I thought it both apt and amusing. When I thought about it I decided it might be offensive to some of the members, so I changed it. Another "signature" that I have used is a quote by US senator Daniel Moynihan "You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts". I chose this after a disagreement with a Staff Member as we clearly had different opinions …

The other thread got me thinking... Here's Justin Halpern's Dad from the book, "Shit My Dad Says": "You can’t come. Because it’s not a vacation if family is with me. I could vacation in my fucking house if you people left it." "There won't be humans in 500 years. Enough people choke themselves when they jerk off we gave it a name. We ain't a species made to last." "You didn't get a good deal, you were just fucked gently. Trust me, Best Buy will not be the one with the sore asshole tomorrow." "So he likes drugs and hookers. That's the mustard & mayo on the sandwich of life. Problem is, that's all he's got on his fucking sandw…

So I've been working on a little project over my winter break: re-aligning the terminal Poisson amplifiers on my VX equipment. I've gotten pretty far -- the T-pulses are easily collimated to a five-gram tolerance -- but I've been having a bit of trouble with sticky girdle springs keeping the Albertson flange from rasterizing. At this rate, I'll never be able to get the phase detractors to properly control the flux through the Poisson amplifiers. I was thinking of using some homeomorphic walnut oil to lubricate the springs, but I was worried that the extra inductance would cause a phase loop and blow out the monad. Should I be worried, or will the type unifier prevent …

Hi. This is NOT a trick question, just came up on a discussion among friends and would appreciate opinions. What is the rentability in percentage of a bank that pays 2% to depositors and gets 8% from loaners ? Perhaps the terminology am using in this post is not the precise one, but it is not my forte.

A couple weeks ago I posted a topic in "Politics" about heros, which didn't go over too well. Today, I found this on the net and hope it makes more sense. Every country has its "HEROS". I just happen to be an America. http://www.skygod.com/quotes/highflight.html

The Debunking Handbook pdf The challenge is that once misinformation gets into a person's mind, it's very difficult to remove. This is the case even when people remember and accept a correction. It's pretty interesting, explaining the psychology with a more effective and human strategy for debunking myths.

Cyclops once played a Trombone, just once. He picked it up, fixed it, br.pr.br.pr.ewed into mouthpiece with vibrating lips. He played for a long time moaning away like a fog-horn. When he slept that night he dreamt that milk was oozing out of the corners of his mouth. Any Psycho-Analysis?! Cyclops own analysis is that the vibrating lips stirred the memory of his childhood, milk-sucking babehood, what an easy way to regain Lost Innocence! After that the sweetest music to cyclops' ears was the playful thrpthrm, thrpthrm issuing out of childrens lips. He played the flute the same way with vibrating lips, not with a blow hole in the mouth. He felt he re…

I think everyone, it they tried, could come up with an original saying. I hit upon this one this year: "There are no accidents, just people taking too much risk." I have not yet been able to originate another. How about it everyone?

Also this is for some of you who do not live in the US and cannot comprehend the news organizations being less than honest, several examples of this dishonesty is shown in these videos... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTqZ4ucH144 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_qAR1Zx3Ng I wasn't sure if this belonged in the religious forum or not, if it does feel free to move it.

Hello all, pretty new to the forums and only high school level of knowledge. I don't consider my self to be natural smart and have little science knowledge. But I always believed if one does dedicated the time and effort they can reach high levels. And I was hoping the forum users here were knowledgable enough to point me in a good direction. I'm interested in Electromagnetics. From what little I have devled (mostly off the internet which I know is not always trustworthy but seems to have some interesting things) there seems to be alot of things and applications that just don't seem to be used in our common day or receive little to no attention. Now I know most people…

Hello, so i am asking a question. As what do you perceive the economic crisis? The beginning of a downfall or an oppurtunity for change? Will we be seeing more conflicts between countries? Is this the appropriate time to blaim each other for the situation that we are dealing with? I am a 17 year old student living in Greece a country that has been deeply afflicted by the economic crisis. However , i believe that this is a perfect opportunity for all nations like Greece to evolve and rejuvenate. This optimistic view may be a result of my age, so perhaps i am mistaken. Feel free to argue with my statement. I am interested in all possible opinions.Thank you for your…

Old article, but I only came across it recently. http://www.paulgraham.com/trolls.html I thought the "bad conversation drives out good" comment (the reference to Gresham's law) was particularly insightful. It's why there we have moderation. The really bad conversation — spam and its ilk and obvious trolling — is eliminated as soon as we discover it. The lesser infractions have a weaker feedback, in an attempt to improve the quality.

HALLUCINATION happened again! a Visitation!! Again it was a piece of cloth, a huge banner actually, i was holding it up by its two top corners with my hands spread apart (in the twilight areas sizes dont matter) letting the cob-webby wobles and waves in the closed eyes settle on the banner with a precision, purpose and focus reported in possession in seances, a transferrance---- the banner started rolling, rippling, billowing, lifting my spirit with it. I soared and dived with it to my mind's fill. It was a great cleanser, liberator, a perfect de-stress at all levels. I was not sleeping, nor dreaming, but in a day-dreaming somnolence, yet aware. What are the…
