Dear members of the Nobel Committee, I hereby nominate Tom Leykis for a Nobel Prize for the year 2005, for his superfluous work on human male courting rituals and his general promotion of human male independence. His contributions in both fields are equivalent, if not superior to, the mapping of the human genome, the mastering of the atom, and a peaceful solution to the violence in the war-ravaged mid-eastern communities, all rolled in to one. With his unique combination of a highly evolved/superior intellect, and stunning insight/experience, the Professor reaches out to men and women (primarily men) and illustrates the essentials for one of the most primal, compu…

those ads at the top of each page are google adverts... from what i understand these work on a basis of forum owner gets paid every time one is clicked on. you can click on it and exit the page immediately and the "site owner" would still get paid. that is what ive read happens anyway. if this is true, presumably blike gets the money???? if those two things are true we could start a "click on the ad once per week" club ..... it'd get blike some money and would be an easy way of us to say thanks to him. sadly he wont get much money per 'click' so it'd need quite a few people to do this to get him some noticeable money. also ive also read that you ca…

The other day I was measuring with a ruler and I wrongly assumed that inches were divided into tenths. I've spent four years in science class and the metric system is pretty much how I think these days. Nonetheless, it took me about 2 minutes to figure out what the heck was going on with the ruler. Finally I realized that it was divided into 8ths instead of 10ths. Then I had to convert all the stupid decimals from calcluations into 8ths. RIDICULOUS I SAY!

Help!! I'm addicted to the Science Forums network! I should be doing my homework, but instead I surf the message boards. When no one's posting, I surf the web, and keep checking back. Should I get a life, or what!

Greetings: I'm trying to find a quotation. I believe it was Einstein (but may very well be wrong) and it goes something like this: "Be careful not to confuse the mathematical description of a clock with the actual workings of the clock inside the box into which you cannot see." The quotation I'm looking for speaks to the difference between a scientific model which predicts (maybe perfectly) how some phenomenon may behave and the actual, physical, thing. Does anyone know the quote I'm looking for? thanks.

I can't see mathematical formulas anymore. All I see is math in brackets and /math in brackets with all the text/codes in between. They aren't coming out in the proper script. This goes for ALL posts that have used this code that i read. Is anyone else having this problem. Do you know how I can see them again?

Now that the fuss has calmed down a little, and all the information is there for those who want to look, I thought it would be interesting to see how people are reacting to the fall-out from the Hutton enquiry.

  19. Hello folks at Science Forums. After a couple of weeks of testing countless combinations of settings with our server's configurations files, we have come to a sequence that is overly incomparable. With our server(s) optimized, the entire Science Forums community may now converse, debate, and agree at speeds of near Mach 3. Now to start our next series of tests -- a C++ program engineered to determine the exact combonation of cream and sugar that will result in a taste so inconceivable by man, even Fidel Catro, or the Columbian marketplace, couldn't dare compete. If our hypothesis is correct, it will result in complete rupture of one's taste buds. Brian Hornung …

ok, everything seems to be disappearing... i accept occasionaly a post disappears for mod/admin reasons, but this is too much to be that... Causing rotation of an object 1 post missing 1 and 1 loads missing Old IDE cable loads missing and that's just stuff that i happen to be looking at now and remember a post which isnt there.... also there isn't an admin or mod online at the moment... and even if there was earlier why soo much mass deleting? i remember some of those posts and they were applicable and on-topic. so where did those posts go?

Alrighty then! 27th, the first day in Finland when you can buy fireworks (legally, that is). 6:00 PM on the 31st of December to 6:00 AM on the 1st of January is the period it's legal to get rid of them here. What sort of activities are you planning for New Year's Eve? Nothing? Fireworks? Some refreshing ethyl alcohol mixtures? Quality time with drunken relatives telling you how to live your life? At least I know what I'm doing: Apocalypse: Now - Finland Edition http://www.freewebs.com/gildedchem/apocalypsenow.jpg (a bit over 300kb, but high resolution, copy the address to your address bar since the direct link won't probably work) And that's not all, going to b…

What do some people have to say about this? I myself, being a hockey player, think it's brutal. I don't know every little detail, but to a 15 year old it seems that the players are whining about more money even though they're getting paid hundreds of thousands of dolloars every year just to play a game that they love! Seems ridiculous to me, but like I said I don't know the other smaller details. Less tax to pay from what I can see.

MPAA has struck again, chopping the bit-torrent society at the knees. Suprnova.org has finally fallen. For many bit-torrenters, this was the best, if not only, site to get .torrent files. All I can say is that it will be greatly missed. If any others have anything to say, please share your comments here. Thank you RIP Suprnova
