Acetaminophen is in Excedrin, (off brand) equate, and tylenol. They say nothing about side effects yet they kind of make your head go "whooh." And there's sort of a tast when you brethe in your nose and chest, like when you have a cold. I don't know how to explain it but it messes w/ your head. Most websites say "When used appropriately, side effects are rare." One website says "Acetaminophen relieves pain by elevating the pain threshold, that is, by requiring a greater amount of pain to develop before it is felt by a person." Maybe that's why it gives you a simi lightheaded feeling. Overdosing is supposed to cause liver desies but I'm not on any medication.…

Hey, I recently became interested in Magnets and decided to look upon some videos. I found this one: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/55826/who_can_explain_this and I was wondering how it was done. Someone posted a comment and said that the liquid poured was liquid nitrogen and that the black block was a super conducting material when it was cooled with liquid nitrogen. I'm thinking of showing this example in my science class and would like to know what material that block is made of, or another example of a material that will become a superconductor.

Thanks to Phi, the nominator for this award recipient, for writing this: "... our conclusion today is that it is unconstitutional to teach ID [intelligent Design] as an alternative to evolution in a public school science classroom." With that ruling, Judge John E. Jones declared that the Dover Area School Board had violated the US Constitution by requiring students to hear a statement about ID before taking biology classes that included the theory of evolution. "We find that the secular purposes claimed by the Board amount to a pretext for the Board's real purpose, which was to promote religion in the public school classroom," Judge Jones said. His ruling was ver…

Not too long ago, the KGB declassified the Blue Folder which is said to hold information regarding the existance of aliens. http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/6063.asp Quite an interesting read. Now to my point. Ok, this is going to be really really really out there, so stick with me. As you may or may not know or remember, Norman Rockwell's "War of the Worlds" broadcast caused a huge amount of mass confusion as people thought the world was actually being invaded. After this, do you suppose that the United Nations, or some other world wide association decided to increase the exposure of the concept of aliens to the world in an attempt to lessen the ch…

How do most people meet prospective partners? Through much of human history partners were met through family connections. With the decrease in family size and influence there has been no effective replacement. Many people meet at school and work but this is becoming progressively more restricted by work and company rules. Given the soaring divorce and single parent family rates I would suggest a more efficient means of social pairing be devised. Any suggestions?

You can tell a lot about a person by what they drive. Sometimes What kinds of vehicles do you have? Why did you pick them? What would you like to have? I was hauling bundles for the local newspaper so I am still driving the three standard ford festivas I used for that and an 87 Nissan pickup. All have over 1,000,000 miles. One of the festivas has over 300,000 miles. My wife and I have hit 15 deer in festivas and two of them were killed on the spot. Both cars were disable by deer hits so I put big knarly deer guards on the front and the only thing that gets beat up is the deer now. We my wife is pregnant with our third child so at some point w…

I would like to know what everyones heating bill was last month and if it was a big increase over what you expected. I started using a wood burning stove and an electric tankless water heater so I shut off the gas. My electric is always under $30.

OMG OMG! I have a science fair project due in about 3 days . Haven't even started. I need a topic, bad. The provincial fair is not till April and I have a topic for THAT. HOWEVER, our teacher wants us to hand in our project in JANUARY because our school's semester based and this semester is over in about a month. The project I'm doing for April is too immensely complicated for me to pull off in less than 3 days and have all the materials and display done. So it's time for a desperate alternative. I'm 15 years old, Grade 10, able to spend about 100 to 200 bucks. I am interested in computers, math, engineering, physics, and chemistry. Our teacher wants a good project and…

Has anybody here had any success making money online? You need to be careful because many online programs are scams. I'm actually making a lot of money from http://www.12dailypro.com and they have over 200,000 members. Is anybody else a member of an online program where you can make money?

I've been looking for guarana in its natural plant form forever! Nobody online sells it, and I don't have any magazines that sell it. I am a bit of a plant fan, I have a few already, but I want to add guarana to it because I'm a big fan of the energy drinks (particularly Monster) and they all have the plants' berry juices in them, and, from what I've read, its more powerful than caffeine and actually better for you because it isn't artificial. So, if any of you guys could help me out with this one, I would be most greatful. Being that some of you are going to, or associated with, a college or university where they can get hard to find items. Any help would be gre…

Hi Everybody, I've been lurking for weeks just to get a feel for things. I was planning on lurking for a little while longer (actually until complete a paper) but stereo problems have forced me out of seclusion to consult this collective for information. I just spent half the day setting up and reading the user's manual for my new (used) stereo and everything seemed to be okay until I tried to listen to news broadcasts. Everybody sounds like a chipmunk! Is there some sort of high frequency switch? If anybody has a good link to home audio FAQ/problem solving stuff I would appreciate that as well. Thanks for your time and any help.

Got my sixth knockout today with a left round kick to the head. I set it up with my Right Jab right hook while fading right combo. I usually set up the kick by alternating a rising jab with a jab feint right hook (a technique I learned by watching James Tony). When I see them thinking about the overhand I fad out with the jab then same side hook (Costa Tzue) that knocks them right into the left round kick. I can double or triple the round kick if they are in trouble but not out, but this guy droped like a bunch of broccoli. It was a sweet ending.

  21. I'm thinking of making a website (best case scenario) or wikipedia article on the changing biodiversity since the ice age, due to intervention of humans. Obviously it is quite difficult to speculate why some of the earlier species dissapeared, for example the megafauna in North America and Australia. However the most common theories directly or indirectly point to the arrival of man. I'm sure articles could be found contradicting this, then more articles countering those.. but that's natural history for you. What can be certain is in the last 2,000 or 3,000 years, many hundreds of thousands of species have become extinct or had their range greatly reduced due to hunting/p…

2005 was probably one of the biggest years in science and debate. Natural Selection vs. Intelligent Design, what to do with global warming, and many others. So what do you think will happen in 2006? What major debates will be held? What discoveries will be made? What will be the most popular electronic? etc. Please reply, it might be interesting to see what people think.

  24. Kind of a cool add-on for firefox. http://www.yakalike.com/ It allows you to chat with other people visiting the same website as you, as long as the other person has the same software. Unfortunately, registration is closed, but you can still use a temporary name through the download, and you don't have to be registered to download it.

  25. I'm in the process of assembling and getting ready WiSci, a science wiki (sponsored by SFN) for SFN users to participate in. I'm looking for volunteers to help get the policy and a few articles together. PM me or post here if you'd like to help. Also, I'm looking for a logo for WiSci. It should be something fitting the MediaWiki default theme (the theme you see on Wikipedia) and be around 135 by 155 pixels. Preferably something sciency like the SFN logo.
