Could religion persist. I just cant think of anything that supports why people would be religious anymore, and for what its worth I am basically just asking why are people religious. Not so much in places that lack any form of education, like caves in afghanistan, just so much in parts of the world were people can come to understand the earth is not flat nor made by any particular supernatural whatever. How can religions persist, do people actually need to hold onto a fantasy in order to exist, how can you say anything bad about people that escape problems via drug use? As a matter of fact I think it would be easy to point out religion kills more then drugs, or more then …

In the interest of saving time doing assignments and such on my computer, I was thinking of getting something to help me complete it faster. What I have in mind is: Because I need pencil and paper to write, especially when im drawing diagrams, but when i can type a lot faster than i can write with my hand, not to mention writers cramp. So I was thinking if i could add some sort of peripheral to my computer which basically lets me write on a tablet with a pen, similar to what illustrators use to draw images in photoshop or illustrator. This would allow you to type your words quickly and then draw diagrams using your hand - cutting down the time you spend doing your…

Video A great production from BBC. I had not seen this before so I figured I would post it for others that had not seen it. After I watched this, I downloaded the entire show and was very pleased with the quality, both in content and production value. It was refreshing to see quality graphic work put into an evolution video. **I posted this here so as to make it visible to everybody rather than sticking it in biology as it's more light-weight than I would expect for that forum. Feel free (as I know you would) to move it if deemed necessary.

I guess this has been going around so I'll bet most of you have already seen this. This is a humorously written complain letter about the food on a flight from Mumbai to Heathrow. If you haven't read this, be sure to view the images to do the text justice. Apparently Sir Richard Branson, target for the letter, has taken this like a good sport. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/4344890/Virgin-the-worlds-best-passenger-complaint-letter.html

A little different, but very interesting: http://armorgames.com/play/3260/magic-pen-2 btw, when you get to the level with "the square block to push" it's good to know you can build squares and add hinges to them - I didn't realize that and had to use 71 odd wedges and a lot of gravity!

My wife tried to contact the Inland Revenue, after they wrote to her in her maiden name, so she could update her details and give them her new name. She quoted her maiden name, her new name, her address and her National Insurance Number. They wrote back saying 'Sorry, but we can not identify you from the information you have provided us'. They wrote to her first, she gives them her name address and NI number..... and yet they still can't work out who she is.

As I have grown older, and hopefully wiser, I have developed a feeling of being more connected to the things around me. The killing of a spider or an ant, now feels damaging to myself. The last time I had to cut down a tree, I felt as if I had changed a part of something beyond that tree. Something beyond my knowledge. I have wondered if all things in the universe are not somehow linked. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't all things on earth spring from the same(original)matter and energy? Therfore, am I not just as connected to the first rock as I am to the first human? Am I alone in this sense of a giant collective ONE?

In your fackbook inbox there could be a link there that sends you to you tube. The message says " There is a video about you on the street." DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK!!! It will tell you to update your video codecs, when you do you got the worm. I just seen this on CNN.

Can anyone recommend an easy-to-use daily log program, not necessarily connected to the internet? In other words, an offline record keeper, a register of events and activities, maybe listed under different headings. Preferably a free download. And remember, I did say easy-to-use. Something the village idiot could cope with. Thanks.

as some of you may alreay know, my shed was destroyed by wind several months ago, in a few days time I`ll be having a brand new one but there is still a problem with theives on the site so I came up with a rather brilliant idea (though I say so myself). wouldn`t it be nice to know if someone had broken in so you could catch them in the act! well here`s how: you`ll need an OLD mobile fone, the reason is that the old ones don`t switch off after inactivity and are cheaper and larger (making them easy to work with). take the fone appart and locate the mebrane keypad and solder 2 wires to either side of the Green Send button. reassemble the fone and attatch …

Hey YT, just out of idle curiosity, do folks across the pond actually refer to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington it as "11/9"? I know you guys show your days before your months by convention, but I know you also get a lot of our news and entertainment media over there (in fact I imagine that far more British people know that we do our dates "backwards" than Americans know that British do theirs "backwards"!). Would the average person know what I meant if I said "9/11"? Just curious. (Edit: Moved into a new thread. I'm going to move this over to the General forum since it's not really about politics and doesn't follow our posting conventi…

Okay, so I've been playing catchup on all of BSG for the past few weeks. I've watched four seasons! And I just watched what I believe is the latest episode: entitled "No Exit" I really liked the show when it started out, from a hard SF perspective. FTL drives that basically meant you're causally disconnected from where you "jumped" from after you jumped? That's cool. I liked it! But more and more, I'm not liking the end. This episode did about as much as they could to reveal the "final Cylon" without revealing him (OR HER??? lol not spoiler) And let me say I am... confused? UMM SPOILER ALERT STOP READING HERE IF YOU REALLY CARE. Whatever you do don't …
