While posting a thread on the upcoming Egyptology Exhibit at the Franklin Institute I realised that there was nowhere to post that sort of information. Perhaps a sub heading in General Discussion? Like the Book Sub forum? In this case it was Egyptology, but I dare say people would be interested in art collections that are touring and that type of thing. Perhaps a museum opening a new wing? We wouldn't want High School Science fairs or pop star tours, but important exhibits in their field would be of interest to members and they might not hear about otherwise. Just a suggestion.

What is trolling? I've seen that users have been baned or suspended because of that. The only description I can find is "singing". Thanks

We had one of these threads a few years ago, and perhaps it's time for another. What don't you like about SFN? Features, bugs, people, content, staff, whatever. What bugs you?

I think it would be nice if this forum had an environmental board to discuss issues like this By Captain Paul Watson "On the beach on San Juan Island, Washington, Allison Lance walks her dogs every morning. She carries a plastic bag in her hand to carry the bits and pieces of plastic debris she picks up. Each morning she fills the bag, but by the next morning there is always another bag to be filled. Joey Racano does the same in Huntington Beach further south in California. The harvest of plastic waste is never-ending. Allison's and Joey's beaches, and practically every beach around the world is similarly cursed. Recently in the Galapagos I retrieved…

I've noticed on the AJAX post editor that the label on the submit button is, well, often mislabeled. I've seen "Vote Now" and "Cancel" (so there's two cancel buttons)

I just did some tinkering. Does SFN feel slower, faster, or just the same for you? (Google Webmaster Tools informed me that SFN is slow, so I figured I'd mess around a bit. Hope it worked.)

Hi. I have a PM stuck in my Inbox (don't remember if I had one and got corrupted or it's new). It has no subject, no sender, no nothing. Date is 01-01-1970 (Unix 0 IIRC) With no subject it's unclickable and attempting to get the message via txt or csv gives me an error page. I haven't tried deleting it in case anyone wants to investigate. Error page contents follow: ------------------- Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/private.php on line 849 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at [path]/includes/class_core.php:3254) in [path]/includes/functions_file.php on line 147 Warning: Cannot…

I understand that this is a Science Forum but there will be many people like myself who will not be up to the Math and Science of some of the members. Some of us will be asking questions, puting our point of view and disagreeing with some of your Theories. Please allow the Questioners to partisipate in this Forum without disrespecting them. I, myself am an Electronics Eningeer who is interested in Theoretical Physics and Partical Physics, among other things, so let me learn from your knowledge without being ridiculed for my lack of knowledge on some subjects. We are not all Matheticians...Just Free Thinkers

My suggestion is the creation of a "one on one" debate section. It doesn't have to actually lock other people out from it; they could just be ignored. The purpose is to increase the fairness and quality of debates, when one side is vastly under-represented. Having partaken in a few threads where I'm the minority, things get confusing very quickly with lots of people making all kinds of arguments, some of which are repeats, bringing up already resolved issues, and occasionally all demanding their specific posts get answered. There's also plenty of flawed arguments and misunderstandings. The minority then has to either spend an awful lot of time reading everything or wi…

My Master Thesis "Agricaltural and Enveronmental science" Why was that thread locked? For something like that, which was in the right place (I think), it got locked? Perhaps tag on explanations so other users don't have a "Wtf...?" moment?

Having read with interest the numbers of threads, in the past few weeks, attempting to discuss religion through a circuitous route in a Science Forum, I think it would be extremely good sense to start a new forum for this debate. The Science Forum has grown substantially quite recently, with new members from all continents, many of them believers. Any new thread which hints at religion or Creationism can be easily diverted to such a Forum and avoid the type of emotionally draining debate which has dominated certain 'taboo' topics. Does this make sense?

and i'm not talking about the kick flinging contest mods start every once in a while.. so, what gives a mod the right to ban somebody from IRC? and what penalty is there for a mod who issue an unjust and prejudiced ban? edit: also aren't all bans in SFN subject to the notification of the duration of the ban? aren't you allowed to know when the ban will be lifted?

Sorry to interrupt this debate but it annoys me that at the top of each forum is the following message: Hello elas, It appears that you have not posted on Science Forums for over a month. Why not take a few moments to ask a question, help another member or just participate in one of our many discussions? I know from past experience that if I give a simple mathematical explanation such as in this case, the cause of negative charge (in reality it does not exist i.e. it is apparent not real); it will quickly be transferred to ‘speculations’ or ‘trash’ accompanied by a ‘warning’. So will someone please delete the message so that I can enjoy reading the forums in sil…

Just a random thought. We do get homework or simple "how does this work?" questions here and usually people try to be helpful in their answers. However, at times there are helpful, knowledge-based answers mixed with wild guesses. For the one stating the question it may be hard to evaluate which answers are likely to be accurate. Of course one could pitch in and try to correct factual errors but often it will grow to a side discussion. While we do have a rep system, it only evaluates the poster, but not the post itself. I am therefore thinking if it is possible to evaluate individual posts, too. Either free-for all or according to expertise.
