Hey there. I used to be a total lover of this place and such, but things have happened and such, and ive kind of drifted elsewhere in interest. But im trying to kind of wipe off my history on different sites, how do you delete your profile here? I cant quite find a delete button or anything. XD Sorry, im not abondoning you guys or anything, I just dont have time or anything anymore, and I dont want my name to be under science forums from back when I was younger to be my first thing that pops up on google. Not that thats a bad thing or anything, I just want to be known differently and such, no offense to anyone, please. =]

I think its generally acknowledged that the quality of the politics forum has gone to hell (a prominent user recently called it, "a waste of bandwidth."), but for those of you who don't know, recent highlights include an allegation that the women's movement was invented by communists and is therefore very bad, a rather unnuanced examination of poverty in the Muslim world, and "Why do men commit so many rape crimes?" (Apparently, women are engaged in a massive conspiracy to increase their power by withholding sex and rapists are retaliating in the only way they can. Someone on the politics forum seriously suggested this) I would suggest that the title of the politics …

I notice some members (esp. newbies) using fonts and colors to pimp their posts. Why is this allowed? Some people apparently think that their post is so good that it deserves a new color, and a new font. Some others just like to push all the buttons that they can find because they are 10 years old, and that's what a 10-year-old does. Personally, I find it ugly and distracting. Because that's what grumpy old guys do. Someone has made an effort to choose the style of this forum, and it's quite pleasing. It's just ugly to have a single post in a thread which breaks with the style. In addition, the way I read / scan a thread is simple: I read everything in the default fon…

I have an idea that I wanted to share. I often use circus props in lessons to engage pupils but also to demonstrate certain phenomena. A juggling ball can be a photon, an electron, an alpha particle etc. A spinning poi is a great analogy for satellites or circular motion. And a diabolo neatly demonstrates how a gyroscope works. If pupils are able to have a go with these various props their homework could be to describe the prop in a scientific way, for instance A company that I have worked with in the past provides excellent circus skills activities for schools. Including... Get Your Act Together - a package that focuses on performance in…

While it is indeed possible to post from kindle on the normal version of the site (I am doing it now), I find that the mobile version looks much cleaner on the kindle. That being said, I have some issues with the mobile version which force me to use the stndard version. 1. I cannot figure out how to log in or reply to posts. 2. I cannot figure out how to view new content. Using mobile now: if I log in using the normal version, I can post. I still, however, cannot figure out how to find all new content via SFN mobile.

I am having trouble making these functions work in the posting/reply editor here. Can we do these things here ( if so what I am doing wrong or what procedure should I be following ) ? I seem able to select/all but then I can't copy, cut (although paste seems OK) ? I have to use backspace or delete to get rid of unwanted content. any help much appreciated

Recently, someone has informed me that my posts cause them distress. I searched for an ignore setting for this user and recommended they use it as well but I couldn't find one. Am I missing it or is it unavailable in this forum?

I think that for those who use the mobile version, the ability to search and the ability to post long threads is very much lacking. If these are improved that portion of the population would be much happier with SFN.

Hey, guys I'm curious why when one goes to another's (or their own's) profile page to see their past threads/posts on SFN only the last few are listed? I'm not angry or anything but I think it would be better if somebody could incorporate a feature which allows users to view all their past posts/threads? Would this be possible in any way? It's just sometimes it's a bit hard to find out who has responded to you threads until you go through all the pages of each individual subforum which can get a bit tedious. The search feature also doesn't seem to be working as well (at least on my computer and several others).

I have just looked through Dave's great tutorial on Latex and wonder if the original post could be altered in one small way to avoid confusion. I noticed this from Michel's point on the Stonehenge Mathematics. Michel had, quite reasonably, looked at the Tutorial and I guess this line specifically He had wanted to get the symbol for pi. If you find an equation on the tutorial with pi - click and look at the code is appears as follows [ math]int_{-infty}^{infty} e^{-x^2} = sqrt{pi}[ /math] It has stripped out the backslashes if you then try to put what the code shows you get [ math] =sqrt{pi} [ /math] gives [math] =sqrt{pi} [/math] rather …

So I have an SFN blog, and when I go through SFN it shows that I have a certain username attached to a certain email address, but when I go to login at Wordpress directly it does not think that this email address is registered. Are the SFN blogs separate from Wordpress and if so is it possible to combine them so that you can access them from Wordpress?

I was reading a thread, and I somewhat agree with the development of a Bioengineering board. Of course, I'm biased, as I have a biology background. I think it would be a nice addition to the board. I see a lot interesting bioengineering topics out there these days, ranging from cellular biology (such as plasma membrane plasticity) to body mechanics. A lot of the stuff has a nice mathematical, engineering spin to it. Again, I don't always fully understand the stuff, such as chemical guidance throughout the body; but I still find it fascinating and worth a bit of a read from time to time.

I just want to suggest a journal club here. It would function to broaden and increase the depth of learning of SFN members to a number of topics in various different areas of Science, and open up new scientific discoveries for exploration by this Forum. For example, electron movement in bacteriochlorophyll would open up the topic to Chemists, Biologists, Physicists and the merely interested. To start with, we can concentrate on review articles which cover a whole topic in a concentrated form. The journal club should be only limited to the more serious with more than 30 posts, and also have a time limit. After a two week time limit for comment and discussion, th…

It seems the censor did not survive the software transition. Should a new one be put into place? Then again, with it taking THIS LONG to even notice, we might not even have enough of a problem to warrant the effort needed to make a new one.

There must be a way to find my posts? But why is it not in plain view? I would think that would be one of the main features of any forum-to find what you have posted and any other comments.

I was unfortunate enough to be managing my personal settings one day , , when I thought it might be efficient to delete the attachments in the 10 MB memory area . This was mainly because 10 MB could be filled quite easily , so it would be good to keep it clear . Later , I realised that all attachments on posts had been deleted . Would it be a good idea to be able to delete from personal settings whilst keeping post attachments ? 10 MB also seems like an amount of memory based on a time long gone ! Is it time to use 100 MB ? We must progress ! We need technological advancement !

This is a message i recieve when i go to the chatroom. Warning: Other chatrooms are not under the control of SFN. If you enter another chatroom, we are not responsible their behavior. So how do i go into other chatrooms? If i wanted to. The chatroom says channels #snf. Do i need other codes to enter other rooms? And if so. Is there a list somewhere to those codes that I can get a hold of??
