im trying to get back into programming java, but ive forgotten a lot. in the program im working on right now im making some buttons, but the Graphics are set to draw it one pixel thick, and it looks really bad. i dont want to widen it by drawing more rectangles, because thats sloppy, annoying, and inefficient. is there a command to make it use a bigger pen when drawing its lines? i seem to remember something along those lines, but that may have been for a different class.

I just can't believe that lack of common sense that the EU has. Just read this article: http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/29/news/international/eu_microsoft.reut/index.htm They said, "We are concerned about the possibility that the next Vista operating system will include various elements which are currently available separately from Microsoft or other companies." This is absolutely the craziest thing I've ever heard. My car came with a car stereo, and those are available separately from other companies. I guess the automobile companies should be fined money too... Why can't they understand that sometimes products need to be included with other products? Imagine …

If you have a web site with a long URL, you can buy a new domain and have it forwarded to the old URL. If your domain registrar provides domain masking, the visitor will not know the web site has a different URL unless he or she looks at the source code. For example, I own the domain http://www.destinypoems.com but the actual site is located at http://destinypoems.homestead.com. My domain registrar's domain masking service works using a frame. The HTML code for http://www.destinypoems.com is: Even though it has the META tags setup, could domain masking have an affect on my search engine positions?

Hi, hope someone can help with this problem i'm having. 2 and a bit people share one internet connection at home, 1 downloads heavily, i just play net-games sometimes (ok a lot heh). There is one other on the network but as far as i know he just browses internet and msn that sort of thing. Now my friend downloads just from websites with a download manager, Fender, he assures me he always limits the speed (we get about 50kb/sec, he limits to 20) but something is not right. Any netgame i play while he is downloading is unplayable, with latency around 800ms and frequently spikes up to 3000+, where i might get disconnected. Even tho the program doesnt mention it i suspect i…

my computer overheated and shut itself off yesterday. it worked fine afterwords, i thought it was just a fluke. it did it again today so i took it apart and cleaned off the CPU heatsink, which was covered in so much dust i doubt there was any airflow at all. i put it all back together again and now it wont start unless its in safemode. it gets to the windows screen (with the scrolling blue bars) and then they stop scrolling. if i start in safe mode it has no problems at all. im normally pretty good about fixing this stuff myself, but i cant even figure out where to start on this one.

I'm in the process of (very slowly) trying to learn how to program. I havent actually gotten on to learning a fully-fledged programing language yet as i'm trying to become competent at a few scripting languages first to get the feel of it (learning XHTML at the mo). anyway, my question is: What branch(es) of mathematics do I need to study in order to be able to program, and to what level do I need to become proficient?

I am doing a diorama for my History class, and I have to do a art museum featuring Hans Holbein the Younger's works. Right now I plan to have plywood as a base, then drywall, then paint for the wall and plywood, cement, and tiles for the floor. The pictures in is will range from stuff like 2x2 to 4x8 to 4x4 etc. Which comes to my question: How could I create some lighting for this? I want to have small light bulbs (very small, 1/2 inch diameter or smaller) or some LEDs, but how would I do that (what tools would I need, how much would it cost, etc.)? I want to have 5-8 lights, and I also want a on-off switch (preferrably small, like a house light fixure where up=on and…

Have you guys ever seen these sites before? I run across them every now and then. It says like xxx.com and displays your website, exactally like it is. You can browse it and everything. http://www.cekaf.com ping http://www.cekaf.com ping: unknown host http://www.cekaf.co (if you dont have a website, try to ping it) I'm sure it's just a simple php thing but what's the point? I found one that was an entire forum with members and everythign! But not me, cause it was too busy displaying my website instead of the forum!

Intel is in the news with their new conroe chip. In one article http://news.designtechnica.com/talkback106.html, the author mentioned Intel's upcoming use of flash memory in computers as a way of reducing load times for frequently used data. Can someone explain to me why it has taken the industry so long to get flash memory into computers? The advantages of using flash memory, in conjunction with regular hard drives (for capacity) and RAM, have been talked about for a number of years. The benefits in terms of power consumptions (for laptops) isn't new, either. I don't understand why it's taken so long for a chipset maker to utilize flash memory.

Can someone explain to me how CPUs work? I know that the "information"(bits/bites) goes between memory (HDD or RAM) and the CPU which processes that information but how does it do that? How do we get solved equations and formulas instead of just numbers?

Somebody said in another thread that flash memory has a limited number of write cycles. I hope it is a very large limit, otherwise it will be a major problem for iPod Nanos. I think the iPod Nano writes to the flash memory everytime you play a song! It keeps track of which songs you play the most, and how many times you have played each song. You can check these statistics from iTunes. Anyway, how many write cycles does the flash memory within the iPod Nano have?

Hi, I am now doing a project to write a 16-bit DOS piano program to play the 12 notes in an octave, which I have completed. But this program must also be able to "talk" to another computer through null modem R2-232 connection so that the note played on the local PC is also played on the terminal PC. I have a severe problem accessing the COM1 port on the Window XP platform, due to protected rights of accessing the I/O ports in Windows NT and higher operating systems, even when I am using the 16-bit DOS emulator program NTVDM.exe. Is there any quick solution to this problem, how am I going to bypass the Privilege level access of I/O ports (COM1 port) with my written…

Hi, er.. To cut a long story short, I am having ENORMOUS difficulties getting to grips with even the simplets aspects of Motorola 68000 assembly language. I have an assignment looming whereby I need to write a very simple program with it, yet even after studying resources for over 5 hours today and for many other hours throughout this week, I don't feel like I'm making any progress in understanding what in the heck I'm doing. Basically this is a call for help.. This really is my last hope. What I suppose I'm needing are: 1. Somebody who understands basic 68000, and who wouldn't mind helping me slightly with it. or 2. Some good links that explai…

1."Memory serial presence detect (SPD) device data missing or reliable operation DDR 200MHz memory assumed at slowest timings" And my computer boots all the time. 2.I've not touched my digital camera for several months. It has some abnormalty when I took it out today. The Photo taken could be seen clearly in the LCD monitor, however, as I was trying to capture a photo, the screen always gives a blurred image. I've tried using alcohol to clean the surface of the lens, but nothing changed. I really hope someone kindy enough to help me. Appreciate very much!

I went to a web site the other day, and I saw a strange error message: After that, I haven't had any other problems going to any other web site. Do you know what that message means? Was somebody doing a DOS attack against my computer, or the web site?

Regards everybody, I'm distributing an application that needs a licence file protection. A file comes with a registered version that contains encrypted customer data. It's encrypted using asynchronous encryption (RSA). The idea is to encrypt the file with a private key, and give the public key to the application. So the application could decrypt the file, but would not be able to encrypt it. The goal is to make it as difficult as possible to make a keygen that would work on unmodified application assembly (with the original, unpatched exe that contains the unmodified public key). I planned to do this by separating public and private keys, and giving only the p…
