Hello, I'm a firefox user. I'd like to change my default pdf reader from Adobe Reader to Foxit Reader. How can I do this? Foxit reader offers a neater and faster way compared to Adobe reader though the latter offers more functions.

My new cable provider doesn't seem to be very good, and their Internet service will randomly drop out for about a minute. It doesn't happen a lot, but it tends to happen at the worst possible times. I just tried to send an e-mail newsletter to all of my customers. My PC's Internet connection dropped right after I pressed the "send" button, so I got a web browser error instead of my mailer's confirmation page. I know that at least some of the e-mails were sent out because I have my own e-mail address near the top of the mailing list, and I received the message. The e-mail was sent using the mailer in the admin area of my site. The PHP code for the mailer form…

I was forwarding an email to myself from one account on the Internet to the next, and I noticed the email was able to quickly foward itself. When a person is forwarding an email, does the server upload the email to another server? In other words, does not the speed of my Internet connection matter but instead the speed of the email server's connection?

I get a horrible wifi signal in my room. Using an old satellite dish I can get an good signal, but it still goes sometimes. Someone told me about a WDS (I think) system where you can use another router kind of as a repeater for the first. I know that you can use a wireless card to share wifi using ad hoc (something like that). I was wondering if I could make a WDS (or something similar) with a laptop with one wireless card, or if I'd need two, or if it wouldn't work (or too difficult for a noob ). And am I getting the right idea about a WDS?

Hi guys I'm building a method to my php site that will validate a user's session. One of the functions in that method is going through a Database with saved sessionIDs, and verifying that they are active. If a sessionID is not active, it should be deleted from the db. I can't find a way to go over the active sessions in PHP. I know how to get the params of a single session (like, the one the user is currently configured with), but if I want to go through (server side of course) the full list of all active sessions and get their IDs, I just can't find a way. There must be one... help... ~moo

I've tested the new Firefox 2.0. I believe it loads web pages well, but the user interface looks very bad. It still has the old "File" and "Edit" toolbar buttons at the top. Look at the interfaces of Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7: Why did Firefox keep the old interface of IE6 and Firefox 1? None of the upcoming Windows Vista programs I've seen have the "File" and "Edit" toolbar buttons anymore. Firefox needs to update their interface by next year or they are going to appear very outdated.

Hey all, I finally decided to dual boot my self built computer. At first I tried Ubuntu, but the drives for ATI Radeon graphics cards are messed up and xorg wont start. before I'm forced to risk messing up the computer by trying to configure drivers , I was wondering if there are any distros that are as user friendly as ubuntu, yet with better drivers and such. Any opinions? Thanks

I want to install apache, mysql, php and GD on my computer. In the past I have wasted ridiculous amounts of time trying to get them all running on old computers and there was always problems with version numbers and I never got the GD installed. I am hoping that there is an easy to install package of all these, with all the most usual settings and options enabled. A gui would be best but is not necessary if there are better distributions. Can you please point me to a project or offer some advice? Thanks alot -moosie

I just installed Ubuntu 6.10 on my new PC with an ASUS P5L-MX motherboard, using the Intel 945 chipset and Attansic L1 gigabit ethernet adapter. The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300. This PC also has an nVidia video adapter, a 7300LE with 128 MByte of RAM (no, I'm not a gamer, so I keep my video adapter lean and mean , and especially, I keep it cheap). I have everything working fine, except the X environment. I downloaded the latest nVidia Linux driver from the nVidia website and installed this, using the run script. It installed, but it gave a warning that it cannot determine the location of my X.org installation. It installs anyway, but the warning makes me s…

In my school, we invited five judges to give a mark to every musicial performers. However, their judging systems are not identical, even there's an unallowable discrepancies among the data. This gives rise to a large standard deviation for one examiner and a small one to some others. Should I reconcile the discrepancies but reducing the standard deviation by means of packing the graph along the x-axis more closely? how do you handle it? I have no idea but I undertake the task for I forsee unfair matter would rise after the announcement.

I was looking through one of my web site's logs, and it appears that Windows Vista sends out a lot more data in its GET command than Windows XP. Here is the information in a Windows XP IE6 GET command: Here is the information in a Windows XP Firefox GET command: Here is the information in a Windows Vista IE7 GET command: I understand the browser and operating system version information, but I don't have any idea what the rest of the information means. While a few extra pieces of data may not look like very much, do you think it will add up if a web site receives thousands of hits each day? How do you think this could affect bandwidth and l…

  18. I have a transflash card for my phone. Getting it out of the phone was an interesting challange but with patience came sucess. It has a T-flash to SD adaptor for my computers card reader. (Manufacturer of both is sandisk) However I am having a LOT of trouble getting it out of the adaptor. is there some trick to this? It's a lot easier to grab when in the adaptor than when it's in the phone, but so far I've worn down 8 nails and I cant move it a millimeter. Has anyone else got one of these? How did you get yours out? Husmusen

I've had a [re]activation misfunction in my computer and it freaks out saying it needs to be reactivated due to hardware changes. I click the thing for more details on the activation failure, and it just sends me to a page on MS to buy another copy. I have my product key right here, but the software never even gives me a chance to enter it in. I just wasted an hour or so on the MS site - can anyone give me any advice in this situation? I *really* don't want to reinstall windows, though if some sort of repair will work I'd be happy with that. It says I have 3 days before it does some Mission Impossible bs to my computer - any advice is MUCH appreciated.…

Is assembler the most diffused programming language ? Thinking of all the billion of controller chips in the world, all programmed in assembler, then this must by large be the most diffused language even though it isn't the most popular. The most diffused would be in order of importance: 1) Assembler 2) C (only because MS Word and windows is written in it) 3) HTML-Javascript (millions of web pages) 4) COBOL 5) RPG 6) Fortran This is the list, so then it is best to learn these languages! Any ideas ? Also I heard that it is hard to find RPG programmers, would this be a good language to learn to land jobs ?

Hello there! I am interested in studying Computer Science in England but it's like I am "in the middle of nowhere". I went through the UCAS web site and checked every simple CS University. I was mainly checking their courses so I avoid subjects I don't really like (telecommunications, graphics, etc.). The problem is I can only apply to 6 and my list has about 19 right now. I got some opinions from friends and other students but still I find it really hard to get down to only 6. So, here I am, asking you for help! Some things about me that you may help you give your suggestions: I am really ambitious and ready to work hard. I don't care about student life (in …

Maybe I'm late on this, but I recently noticed Google let out it's project "Google Docs." I've been using GMail as a way to save my paper drafts for school. I even wrote an article on writingforums.com about using GMail to save drafts and final drafts. It seems that Google caught on to people using GMail for academic and general writing. The importance of this is that Google Mail automatically saves text that a person types. It saves every so often. Also, the saved file is on Google's server. If your computer crashes, it doesn't matter. The file is saved on Google's servers. That's the great part about it. The only downside is if Google's servers crashed; but a person…
