And now there’s a journal article declaring this to be the case https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10676-024-09775-5 We argue that these falsehoods, and the overall activity of large language models, is better understood as bullshit in the sense explored by Frankfurt (On Bullshit, Princeton, 2005): the models are in an important way indifferent to the truth of their outputs.

Are there nanites in our blood currently? It may surprise you to know that the answers can't be found on the google search engine. Wikipedia says: The history of the mobile device has been marked by increasing technological convergence. Early mobile devices—such as pocket calculators, portable media players, satellite navigation devices, and digital cameras—excelled at their intended use but were not multifaceted. Personal digital assistants (PDAs) proliferated in the 1990s as a way to quickly write down notes, schedule business appointments, and set personal reminders, as a handheld supplement to bulkier laptops. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_devic…

The US enterprise infosec firm CrowdStrike has admitted responsibilty for pushing a bad software update that has bricked millions of Windows PC computers around the world, causing chaos at airports, medical facilities, and banking firms on an unprecedented scale. In UK the Sky television network was taken off the air for a while because of this IT failure, and London taxi drivers say they have been unable to process card payments, and are having to work on a cash only basis. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp4wnrxqlewo Sources at CrowdStrike say that a bad channel content update to a driver in their Falcon sensor software system appears to be the cause of th…

  7. Started by kenny1999,

Do you have any advice for a new email address or user ID? For example, my name is Kenny, but we all know that it is almost impossible to get an ID with "kenny" alone for every web service, because they are all taken, not even kenny2 or kenny3 in most cases. I have thought about adding a random number to make it like, for example, kenny14537, but I think someone who knows my ID (which is something I cannot avoid) would easily find out all of my other web activities with the help of Google, because this is a very unique ID. I do not want to use different IDs for different services because it will be extremely inconvenient. I want to keep one word for everyth…

  8. I mean, for example, I get two computer keyboards of exact same model, will they have the something like serial number or code that distinguishes one from another? Will it depend on the brand or will it depend on the value of the device? I did some research on Google, some suggested that cheaper device e.g. USB hubs or flash drive of less reputed brands may not contain any identifying number to distinguish one device from another. Is that true? Another question is, if there is a unique number for each device, when they are connected and powered, will such unique number be recorded somewhere in the computer?

  9. If I create a full backup of my iPhone with iTunes, the data/copy is saved on my PC, later on, some photos are deleted and some new photos are created on my iPhone, then I update the backup with iTunes, will it also delete the photos in the backup? For example, I have taken some photos in Paris, then I create a full backup with iTunes and the backup is kept on my PC. I then delete all photos taken in Paris on my iPhone only, and then I take new photos in Frankfurt and update the iTunes backup. Will the new iTunes backup still contain the photos taken in Paris?

  11. It's all based on the photo electric effect Einstein wrote. The layout of the touchscreen uses photoelectronics. The process Microsoft uses to interface is say light reflected through the glass off the fingertip, reflected again off of a mirror based on trigonometric functions into particular photovoltaic particles through fiber-optics. The current let off through electron excitation travels through conductive wires into LEDs which let out frequencies at alternating intervals (01s) into photo-ionics of opposing charge into a series of em motors which can change the outputs of leds which ones are on or off. The process of installing an app that uses that i…

I have been working on this problem as of late for a general purpose AI and have developed a principle I like to call the "Continuity" principle. It dictates that all things are continuously defined. Such as reason, observation, pattern recognition, awareness, etc.

I am using PGS to solve the contact force part of my rigid body simulator (2D for now). It seems to be functional but I can only seem to get a few decimals worth of accuracy. The algorithm will start cycling between different values. I realize that due to the lack of uniqueness theorem that there are many solutions to the NCP due to the introduction of friction. I want to find one solution that works and I feel that this cycling reduces accuracy. I tried subspace minimization but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. Fingers crossed that someone can help me. Thank You.

  19. I've noticed a number of OPs in recent months that seem to start a subject by means of a rather mundane attempt at teaching a topic, instead of asking a specific question or raising an issue for discussion. Some of them seem to exhibit the clunky/pompous/faintly patronising verbiage I am learning to associate with material written by a LLM. I had assumed these programs would only respond to a request, but I'm starting to wonder if they go off on fishing expeditions to gather information to regurgitate. Does anyone know if they do this?

  20. I'm working on a data analysis project in Python and need to calculate both the mean and median of a dataset. I understand the basic concepts, but I'm looking for a Python code example that demonstrates how to do this efficiently. Let's say I have a list of numbers: data = [12, 45, 67, 23, 41, 89, 34, 54, 21] I want to calculate both the mean and median of these numbers. Could you provide a Python code snippet that accomplishes this? Additionally, it would be helpful if you could explain any libraries or functions used in the code. Thank you for your assistance in calculating these basic statistics for my data analysis project!

  21. Most of the responses to questions such as "How come no autonomous robots allowed to produce stuf outdoors, such as houses?" amount to "Security/safety risks," although autonomous vehicles that operate with controlled environments have shown reduced risk of crashes, so is obvious that the world needs more virus analysis tools to secure us. Most forums gave responses to "What virus analysis tools have local heuristical analysis and/or sandboxes" with as "Huh? WTF is heuristical analysis?", so have included examples of this: Full static analysis + sandbox + CNS = 1 second (approx) for each new executable. With caches, this protects all launches, but past the fir…

  23. Hello everyone, I did my studies and finished my master's in natural sciences, only to find out that the ground is too shaky and jobs/prospects are scarce. Also, after long term unemployment, although I like my studies, I lost a little my interest in academic work. Since I have a second degree in business administration, I would like to know which (easy) IT/computer science skills could I possibly learn for home-based/flexible, stable and international opportunities in all areas but especially in finance, as it is somewhat related to business administration. I am also open to ideas for 2-year degree options. I would really appreciate your feedback. Also, I do not like …

  24. To undo threatware/spyware/ransomware/malware for us, would you add artificial neural networks (artificial CNS) to virus scanners? Github has lots of FLOSS (Open Source Softwares) simulaters of CNS (at https://github.com/topics/artificial-neural-network , such as https://github.com/Rober-t/apxr_run/ ), which virus scanners could use to do this: Just have training data inputs = samples of infected files/programs, and outputs = original files/programs (or end-of-file for samples are just an infection and have no original files/programs to revert to), to produce artificial CNS to undo infections from files/programs Assume most antivirus programs have heuristic…
