I just ask this. I know it might be a stupid question, but I am still doubting. For current schools or working organization, if you do not know how to use computer or your don't have "Computer Internet" in your houses, is that meaning you are not legible to be here?

Yesterday, I discovered a "new" service from the google. It is the "google print". It allows us to read some copyrighted books on the net. For example, I desire to read a book related to the waves in physics. A proper result is given out. http://print.google.com/print?id=narVkFUyJhIC&lpg=1&prev=http://print.google.com/print%3Fq%3Dphysics%26btnG%3DSearch%2Ball%2Bbooks%26ie%3DUTF-8&pg=2&sig=GNWqlS3QpKJnbSxPl3Mdc-n9JkU However, I can't either download it and enlarge the text. I am quite unhappy about this. Anyone knows how to do it?

I've been fooling around with a bit of code lately. It's supposed to convert links like [[link]] in a text to a link like http://www.example.com/index.php?title=link or whatever. Like a Wikipedia link, really. Here it is: while($linkpos = strpos($article_text, "[[", $i) && ($linkpos != FALSE)) { $linkendpos = strpos($article_text, "]]", $linkpos + 1); $link = substr($article_text, $linkpos + 2, ($linkendpos - 1) - ($linkpos + 2)); $newlink = '<a href="' . $site_url . 'index.php?title="' . $link . '" class="interlink">' . $link . '</a>'; $article_text = substr($article_text, 0, $linkpos - 1) . substr($article_text, $linkpos - 1, ($linkendpos + 2) -…

I have an older Pentium II desktop computer. It gives off a lot more heat than my new computer, but it doesn't seem to show any signs of overheating. I guess this is normal, but the problem is that the computer is in my bedroom. After the Pentium II is running for a few hours, my bedroom is much warmer than the rest of the house. This is nice in the winter time, but in the summer my room can get above 85 degrees Fahrenheit. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make the computer give off less heat. I don't think a larger cooling system would work because I am trying to keep the room cooler, not inside the computer. If anyone has any suggestions, please l…

What sort of speeds could you get out of a computer that somehow used 4D calculations as a sort of "thinking space" to become more efficient?

Interesting article from a couple of penetration experts on network security. It's an excerpt from their new book entitled "Protect Your Windows Network: From Perimeter to Data" which just went on sale. It's well-written and not technical; sort of the bird's-eye view of the more paranoid side of state-of-the-art computer security. http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=397660&rl=1

I have seen news about that Java isn't open-source. However, under somewhere in javahome dir, I could find a jar called src. When I unzip it, I can see all the classes which are included in the API. Why, yet, Java isn't open source?? Albert

Is there any way I can fix this? The backgrounds and front images (the disappearing ones) don't line up. The CSS is here : http://www.getlaughing.com/NewVersion/TopNavigation.css ^fo

I don't know what is it. Like in a chatroom, some people are not in front of their computers; they are idling. But even that, they can still come some words out automatically with same messages repeatedly. And some can even repeate the same message every second to display on the chatroom screen. I heard you need a software to do so, who has the link for me to download this software? Also can this software display your saved text-messages to repeat them differently when you are not in front of your computer?

Hello all, I like to surf on the Internet looking for IT related information. Just about few minutes ago, I came to this webpage: http://www.realbasic.com/users/java/ I skimmed quite alot on that website, and I found that realBasic is a programming language, sounds like perfect in every aspect of developer's perspective. However, I guess it is not a popular programming language, which, must have certain reasons for that consequence I believe. Nonetheless, I have read through particularly the page above. What they are trying to say is how superior realBasic is over Java, with reasons of security and cross-platform. For cross platform, it tells Java has…

I'm sure most of you internet webbers have seen compressed files such as .zip or .rar (lossless compression). Does anybody have any opinions on what compression is best for lossless? Personally I use .rar, but I'm sure there must be better algorithms. Is there a fundamental limit to how much something can be compressed (compression ratio)? Maybe someone can help explain Shannon's theory of information and what it really means.
