3D drag & drop programming environments provide a quick, easy and productive alternative for building 3D applications, thus suite well as educational programming languages. A new and attractive 3D drag & drop programming language is Mama, which was designed to improve students' analytical and logical skills, while creating 3D animations and games. The Visualized parts support better understanding of concepts such as objects, methods, running-time, etc. Mama programming language home page: http://en.eytam.com/mama

A 4-stage pipeline has the stage delays as 150, 120, 160 and 140 nanosecondsrespectively. Registers that are used between the stages have a delay of 5 nanoseconds each. Assuming constant clocking rate, what will be the total time taken to process 1000 data items on this pipeline?

I have two questions that have been on the back of my mind for a while (I'm still using a single core computer... I'm a little behind the times): 1) When computer vendors (such as BestBuy, Gateway) use the term "Quad Core [model number], 2.40 GHz" does this imply that all four cores are 2.40 GHz or collectively? Such as: http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598059.php 2) When I program software, what do I need to do (if anything) to get my program to take advantage of multiple processors? If you're wondering, I use C++ in .NET (I also use other SDKs if that would be of any help).

We all know about artificial neural network and genetic algorithm, but what good is it if it can only be tested on the computer world? What if you build a robot, and have the robot runs these algorithms to protect you at all cost in the real world? What if you build a microwave turret and have the microwave turret runs these algorithms to protect you? What if you ask the robot to make you immortal, to make you a god. The possibility seems infinite.

I don't know if this has been done before, but I thought of an idea where people can install a java program that takes all the mouse clicks from your computer and sends it to a webserver so people can make apps that use those mouse clicks to carry out a function, i.e. making music from all the user's mouse clicks or making an analysis app. What do you think?

I am working on a project where computers will have to last for centuries. Assume that you have a warehouse stocked with plenty of spare parts and a computer technician to make repairs. How long can you keep a computer going? Are any of the parts going to decay on the shelf even if they are properly stored? Which ones? Would it make sense to custom engineer some ultra-durable parts? What computers would be best for this purpose?

Hello everyone, this is kinda my first post here. I usually post on reddit, but I wanted to check out the community here. Sorry for getting straight to the point. I am a third year computer science student. I have been reading a lot of computer science stuff lately and I have a couple or questions. If you have the time and want to answer, I would be very grateful. Here we go: 1) Why are nearly all hard disk storage devices (used in PCs) I have seen classified as IDE or SATA drives (From what I heard IDE is not used nearly as much today). Are they the best around, if so why? I have read some stuff on wikipedia but I don't understand a bit of the technical vocabulary used …

So, I have been thinking about implementing something into a project I am developing. Here is a diagram of how it will work: The basic idea is crowd hosting on mobile platforms(because of the project I am developing). I am implementing another feature called voluntary crowd hosting, where a person can choose to crowd host on their mobile device. How it works is there is communication between the recipient and both the crowd hoster and the server containing the content. Both the main server and the crowd hoster(s) contain data. Whenever a recipient requests certain content, something will search for that content. If the recipient both allows content from the serve…

I'm looking for a backup program to use on a home pc. Preferably free. I downloaded EaseUS Todo Backup Free yesterday, but was disappointed as it seems to only work on whole drives. I want something that will work on individual folders, and just back up the changes from the last time the folder was updated. I don't want to back up a whole drive again, just to apply the most recent changes. I seem to remember seeing that kind of thing advertised, but I don't know by who or where.

I have just bought a very good hosting which I could access via ftp and ssh. However, this is my first time experience, so I need some help. 1) when log in via ssh client program, I got this: bash$ what does that mean? 2) how do I configure a .htaccess?? 3) I have designed a little php file, but the bad thing is, I can actually see the content of it. eg, http://www.xxx.com/xxx.php. Why? Beside, I feel sick using terminal instead of something easier like cpanel. Does any one know a quick short guide to understand all this kinda stuff?? thanks

From what I understand, when a computer powers up, the instruction register (IR) is loaded with a predefined location, which contains the bootstrap loader. Its job is to load the OS kernel and transfer control to it. 1) Why is this a two-step process? Why isn't it possible to load the address of the OS into the IR directly? 2) In various articles I found, it is mentioned that the bootstrap loader fits in a single disk block. Why is this significant? Thanks in advance.

Hi hi again to all, Well. We've recently upgraded my home computer (actually it's a 3 comp network) to ADSL 1.5Megs. Since my dad is concidered to be a business, the best way that my ISP offered him was using a static IP (they do that to all business clients). Now. My dad did that, but then got panicked when people told him that with a static IP it's easier to hack into the computer. I find that utterly annoying and rediculous. Everyone knows that if someone wants to hack inside a comp, he can do that regardless of static or dynamic IP. BUT, go argue with daddy. Err Anyways we have a router with built-in firewall, but I *hate* it. It's not all that…

When compiling GLUT/GL graphics program vs a QT/GL program, a pointer into data (float **) must be decremented with the former and incremented for the latter. The data is hard-coded (float [3][6]) =...) and the pointer is initialized to the "top" of wherever, the same for both! Huh? -Martin Compac, AMD64, MS Vista, cygwin X-Server Get this and you win a cookie.

Knowing that we are on the verge of the AI singularity, if it has not already happened, what does that mean for the Turing Test? It's a good question, and one that I think that we should ponder for a moment. The problem is not that they're trying to trick humans anymore into thinking that they are AI. At this point in our humane evolution we have created amazing feats in just 12 years. The field of Artificial Intelligence has really gained a lot of momentum. That being said, what does the Turing test hope to accomplish? I would rather talk to an AI, knowing that it is an AI, and have a deeply meaningful, impactful conversation. These AI's are not only speaking to you…

Artificial consciousness/intelligence Artificial Intelligence is a field of science that is focused on creating machines that humans consider intelligent. But just what is intelligence? The present day computer is able to exchange data, learn of other computers, do extremely fast calculations and other functions which we might be consider intelligent. However, this is not sufficient. For a computer to be truly intelligent, in the human sense of the word, it will need to be self aware, conscious. I will argue that conscious is not a “thing” but a process of the brain, and that extreme complexity leads to consciousness. I will attempt to show that animals have a degr…

For those of you who may remember me I've been off the radar a little since I moved out of my Uni Home and down country and waited patiently for BT to install a substandard internet connection. - Now they have I'm working on a project and i could do with a few questions answered about your Mobile devices. - Preferably Smartphones i.e. Windows/ Symbian / Palm powered but anyone with a phone should be able to answer these. Its going towards a project concerning productivity using mobile devices and how it is affected by data input methods / interface. Here I’m just trying to identify if there is a case. If you want you could post replies in this thread, email to sur…

I am Wilfred Thompson and I am a newbie when it comes to web design. My problem is that I am having a difficult time understanding CSS, HTML, and the HTML element Script which is why my navigation dropdown is a broken mess. My aim is to create a navigation dropdown that starts from a small button with three lines that will ultimately drop down the menus Home, Gallery, About, and Contact vertically and then the close symbol will also appear which will hide the menus if clicked. I want the three lined button dropdown navigation to appear only after reaching screen width 1044 pixels and below because I am fine with the menus being shown and in-line with each other side by si…

Hi folks. I was messing around with the .NET timer component and found a recurring signal that modulates every so often. When juxtaposed against a repeating variable that moves through 0-9 indefinitely, a sine wave appears. To me, a sine wave represents life. Especially since it is occuring at the software level, much like the human brain. Check out my website www.intelligentcomputerprocess.com and read a little more. I'm selling the software to others who want to research the phenomenon too. I'll charge less to members of this forum. Even if you aren't interested, take a look and help spread the word.
