Effects of Freezing on Donor Organs

SFNQuestions

Recommended Posts

I don't know if someone from your department was incompetent enough to do this or if its some internet apocalypse, but every time I try to post now an add tries to pop up and take over the entire post, I don't have time to write a title I have to copy and past as quickly as I can. Everything here is super slow, your site probably got hacked.

My question is: how can organs be transported on ice if freezing kills cells?

Run this: Click scan then clean. Reboot.

Nope my computer is clean and this is the only website I've ever seen act like this in my entire life.

Then your device has something not covered by that software and needs something that will probe deeper and can deal with more serious malware. Adwcleaner deals with browser hijackers, which is what I thought it might. Your problem is probably at the system level.

Wrong again. The computer specialist said there was absolutely nothing wrong with my computer whatsoever, no viruses or anything. It shouldn't be that difficult for a website to admit that it may possibly somehow have a technical flaw against adds.

And yet, you are the only one experiencing it.

Also wrong, I'm simply the only one who's managed to overcome it to tell the tale.

Organs are cooled, not frozen. Also you should check your computer for malware.

How doesn't sitting on ice for hours cause some kind of damage? If I stuck my hand in a bucket of ice for 2 hours, I wouldn't get any tissue damage?

Your question was freezing, and as we established that does not happen. Tissue damage due to frostbite usually happen at ~ -4C. There is non-freezing damage above that temperature, but that is typically caused by inflammatory processes and/or undersupply of extremities with blood. Usually, that takes quite a while and obviously, organs have ischemic issues either way.

How long they survive is very different. Hearts are maintained at 4C and it survives for about 4h at that. Longer than that being separated from the bloodstream negatively affects function.

Kidneys on the other hand are usually preserved in a hyperosmotic solution that allows storage for up to 48h. There are efforts to increase those times in order to be actually able to store organs. However, I do not know how successful the latest developments are.

Should note that this site is being paid for and maintained using volunteer resources.

I had something very similar recently that none of the AV/Malware programs could catch(which is all the technicians typically use). I was only able to get rid of it by uninstalling/reinstalling the browser.

I recently did a site scan and SFN came back clean. This argues against the site itself being infected, though it isn't impossible. If you have evidence that others are experiencing this problem then please share, otherwise assume nothing.

The other possibility is a malicious 3rd Party ad. Best bet against those is to try and lock down your browser. Some stuff the site admin can do but fairly limited.
