  1. they don't have exclusive rights, but anti-monopoly laws can't really do anything to stop the monopoly microsoft has achieved fair and square. Mac and Windows will be the only big contenders for a long time, with linux hot on their tails of course
  2. If you read the first post you'll see that this isn't about the existance of psychics. But it's nice of you to prove that it's possible to fake being a psychic, however it in no way disproves the fact that psychics may exist and that this may be a result of evolution. As for the main topic, I don't see why evolution would be in favour of psychic abilities at all, especially not until* we've matured as a race. Perhaps people with extreme kinds of psychic abilities are too advanced for other parts of their brains so go insane. here's a website I've had my eye on for a while but havn't been quite game enough to get into personally. It seems convincing though, and I consider myself a skeptic (not to be confused with disbeliever) of these kinds of things *I use this word optimistically
  3. I'm going to deal with this in sections if you don't mind, and even if you do. "The planet is littered with smart failures who never tried, or gave up early" To me that is a contradiction in terms. Smart failures who never tried? They're obviously not very smart if they're a failure who never tried. "and mediocre individuals who were too dumb to know when to quit who went on to great success." Are you talking about monetary success? I don't know what you mean. But if by 'success' you mean 'fulfilling one's life goal/s' then yes I believe "smartness" is just as important as determination. If you want to own a plumbing business, maybe you don't need to be a rocket scientist, but if you want to be a rocket scientist, you do have to be a rocket scientist. I think smarts and determination need to go hand in hand for great success, as you won't get overly far without having both of them simultaneously. Of course a person of average intelligence can achieve great things and change the world, but once they do, they've just proven that they're smart. I do believe I just found a catch-22...
  4. "Smart is not always the key to success, it is the perseverance behind it!!" It must be nice to think that, Al. In fact it's so nice that I won't even try to burst your bubble I agree philbo1965uk, the thread has turned from interesting to silly. On the first page, Sayonara³ made a good point that if blondes were dumber than other hair colours, it would be social/behavioral/circumstantial etc, not due to genetics. There's obviously no genetic reason at least, as i'm sure people here already know. All hair is grey, but is treated with melanin to give colour. Melanin is also what gives your skin colour, so if you were going to argue that blondes being dumb was genetic, you'd also be saying black people are dumb.
  5. that's interesting shai, do you know why he thought that might be?
  6. *re-enacts that brilliant scene from Zoolander; makes monkey noises and bangs computer* me tarzan, you homo p.s. we need more emoticons on this forum
  7. I thought you might know that mate. It can obviously be done
  8. Ophiolite, i read that article on how to build a time machine, which is timely because i've been reading about phi and the golden ratio lately as well. I googled plenumary time theory and came up with four results, none of which were of any use at all. I wonder if you'd have any more links for this subject
  9. Winamp has a function that allows you to create your own AVs, you might want to open the source to winamp and see how they do it
  10. Well if there was ever any doubt you were from New Zealand, it's surely gone now after that manly demonstration
  11. couldn't have said it better myself, try arguing that Jthesnake08
  12. Tetraspace, you sound like you'd be interested in string theory. Click here for a great website on the string theories. In this theory, there are thought to be at least 10 dimensions. Quarks and Gluons (sub-sub-atomic particles if you will ) are thought to exist in 10-14 dimensions
  13. This must be done from some ground-breaking research that somehow wasn't made very public, because I havn't heard/read anything and it's something i'm very interested in and make a large effort to be informed in. I don't count, by the way, websites of homosexuals claiming a one off piece of evidence. We all know they think it's genetic, i've had many conversations with gay people who swear they "just are" gay, and I believe that they believe that. i do know that a test was done last year which proved that if you have an older sibling of the same sex your chances of being gay were increased by 1/7
  14. they're pretty silly really, in my opinion at least. Some member of mensa, a journalist or editor or something has the highest tested IQ in the world, in the 200s, whereas slow old Stephen Hawking is 194 (correct me if i'm wrong, not that you need my permission) I've taken two online ones and on one i got in the low 170s and the other i got in the low 160s, i think they're only suitable for generalisation and not much else.
  15. Although you make a good point, I think you're under-estimating soldier's intellienge just a bit.
  16. I'd love for you to give some links and preferably some test data/references to back that up. i'm pretty sure i would've heard of that new genetic reason for being gay. As for transgenders, there is significant scientific evidence to say that's genetic, but it's still a completely different thing than being gay. Perhaps you got the two confused?
  17. but where's the fun in that? imagine making a completely new OS, redefining the way people use computers. it's exciting even to talk about haha
  18. cheers man, http://www.bungie.net i got that one from. you can get trailers for halo 2 there too. but http://www.gamespot.com is the best, they have halo 2 gameplay videos and everything
  19. You can't say someone is wasting resources by doing that, it's completely a matter of opinion. Jack Johnson said "it's all relative" If you think it's a waste of time, that's fine, don't do it. But if I had the money to do it, I would. Just to do it. People don't need to justify doing things like that, it would be fun for most people on the planet (and we don't need to do a poll for that one I'm sure)
  20. Come on now, if we were going to take the bible's word for everything it would be a sorry state of affairs and God forgives everyone for everything anyway. No that's not an excuse to sin (just pre-empting your next post Jthesnake08) but it does mean just what it means. I don't believe anyone is born homosexual, but I do believe that because of certain influences in the world (whether it be violent upbringing or media) some homosexuals don't have a concious choice. Anyway, if the bible says it will come to pass, what are you worried about? p.s. I'm a heterosexual atheist.
  21. I was talking to a friend about this just last week. It would be possible of course, and people do it all the time, but I think it would be nearly impossible to make it a big contender for OS. With a good team I'd be more than willing to give it a crack though
  22. I think if anyone were to be free of propaganda (or indoctrination as you seem to be implying) it would be the soldiers, as they're the first to see the blatent truth of what's really going on.
  23. I also trust factcheck, have been on their mailing list for a while now and they seem truthful and unbiased
