1. But we arn't doing anything to either side. We arn't dividing through by T (other wise yes we would have to do the same to both sides) we are just canceling the Ts on the LHS. Sorry - so far I still don't get it (well, I do, you can cancel the Ts on the RHS without any problem) - I just don't see your reasoning for the RHS being effected by the cancellation. OK lets do it your way of doing the same thing to each side: (T/T) a^x = RHS... multiplying BOTH sides by T right? => T.a^x = T.RHS Now - divide BOTH sides by T: => a^x = RHS just the same as cancelling the origional Ts on the LHS, but by doing what you asked for - the same thing to be done on both sides.
2. I'll never forget Sally Gunnel winning Olympic Gold and breaking the world record for the 400m hurdles. Farmer-Patrick (I think) came a VERY close second and was right on her shoulder. As they crossed the line you could see the body chemistry kicking in (cortisol), Farmer-Patrick colapsed in a quivering reck, unable to get up off the floor - Gunnel though (adrenaline boost) jumped for joy and went sprinting off to do a lap of honour - probably alot faster than I could!! Brilliant! And a good demonstration of the chemistry involved with winning and loosing.
3. What about Oak? Or maybe Ebony? PS - after a bit of reading, what about Iron Wood? Some Japanease swords (probably ornimental though) have been made from white oak. I once whittled a knife from wood when I was fishing - it came out alright, but the wood was still a bit 'green'. I mean it was too wet really and the thing wouldn't sharpen on the blade part very well - although I got a good hard and sharp point on the tip.
4. a = the accelaration due to gravity. Here on earth it is about 9.8 m/s^2
5. For most substances:- In a gas, the molecules are randomly moving around freely and are quite spaced out. As the temperature lowers (energy is lost from the system) and the molecules start to slow down and get slightly closer together - thus the pressure will drop if it is in an enclosed system - the cooler, the lower the pressure. When the temp is low enough (at/below the boiling point) the molecules havn't the energy to go flying around willy nilly anymore, so they settle down together and form a liquid. The molecules still move around the liquid radomly, but are much closer together and 'stay' together like in a liquid state. As you remove more energy, the molecules slow down.. and so on. Does this help?

adamantane

What do you mean by 'good' information? Wiki has some general beginings: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamantane Do you require more? Ask a more specific question, otherwise you could try typing "adamantane" into google for more general information. If there is a specific question then ask.
7. Hot dog, jumping frog Albuquerque! WTF? Who wrote these lyrics!?!
8. They wouldn't get a chance due to the increased security there would be on board. i.e. under cover security guards with low velocity firearms. They would be shot as soon as they tried anything. As for crashing - well you could house the reactor in a larger version of the black box on flight recorder.
9. I think it stems from this thread here: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35019&highlight=hover- have a look.... can you see anything wrong with his theory?
10. I still don't get it Don. If we cross out the T's on the LHS side we are left with: a^x = RHS - - so what? I don't see the problem - can you explain it to me please?
11. I completley missed the point and voted not likely. This is because I saw the thread title: "Research Poll: Public Support for a Nuclear Powered Aeroplane"... and voted no. The public probably would not support this. However, now that I have read the poll title CORRECTLY!! :- "With dwindling fossil fuels, would you fly on/endorse a nuclear-powered plane?" Then I would vote YES - definately. (I'm not suggesting I wan't to be the first to fly on a test run with the first nuclear powered plane.... F*%k that! ) I'm saying, once tested and shown to be safe, who cares what drives the thing, as long as it flys safely. Once it becomes mainstream and has a reasonable flight record then fine. As for the terrorism worries - then perhaps better on board security for such flights involving undercover armed guards with low velocity firearms to kill the highjackers at the first sign of trouble. Did anyone else make this mistake?

Bonding..

Yes, I think that's what you mean - like the octet rule, but for smaller atoms like Hydrogen and Helium where their outer shell is the s orbital. So they need 2 electrons to fill the shell. The larger atoms need 8 because they have to fill the s-orbital (2 electrons) and the p-orbital (6 electrons) - thus 'octet' rule - 8 electrons.
13. That happened to me at a party once when someone spiked my drink - most umpleasent!
14. I think it is because the full string gives 'half' the full wave. (half a sin wave not a full one) - but I could be wrong on this one. This is definately due to the different thickness of each string - you get a higher pitch from the thiner strings.

Bonding..

Is it like the 8 electron rule, but for the S shell - i.e Hydrogen? It means the Hydrogen atom must have 2 electrons to fill its outer shell and be in a stable bond. Like larger atoms which need 8 to fill their shells. It's why Hydrogen only forms one bond - because it needs just one more electron to fill its shell. Carbon on the other hand needs 4 bonds, beacause it needs 4 more electrons to be stable - thus giving it 8 in total. (2 in the s orbital and 6 in the p). Is that what you meant - or have I completely missed the point:D?
16. Hmm - I was going to instantly click bad - but after further thinking,......... lets play advocate here. What if a book was written soley to con or mislead people. i.e. if it was written as FACT with references and stuff (which may also be fake or written as a sole purpose to support the origional con) but was actually false or misleading. Exampes: Books designed to entice the readers to part with their money in some kind of disguised pyramid scheme. A recipie book for school children which contains a recipies which are poisonous. A guide to meditation designed to allow you to meditate your way out of depression - filled with mantra's know to induce suicidal thinking. .... I don't know - I'm kind of making this up, but thought I'd think about it a little more before casting my vote. thoughts?
17. Yea I did! But I put it down to the experiments at the LHC.

What is this pic?

Thanks people - I thought it might be some sort of grinder/filter at first. I went with the telephone in the end. I'll let you know what it is when I find out and I'll let you know if I win . This is the second week running that their company have done this little comp (last weeks was clearly an old microscope but I didn't enter) - I might post next weeks up next Friday if anyone is interested.
21. What is the equipment in this picture? If we get it right I could win 12 bottles of wine! All answer/suggestions welcome - even if wrong - most amusing reply gets a mystry prize.
22. Why should the value of x matter? [(lna/lnT) -1] / [(lna/lnT) -1] = 1 regardless of the value for x, surely?
23. Your probably right. I don't know http://www.yourdictionary.com/mate http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=mate Platforms, heels or high heels I suppose.
24. I don't know what the colours represent in Ohms, but could you not put a small votage through one of them with an ammeter linked to it and work them out?
