  1. Snail - I was so impressed by your new theory of funton mechanics that I want in! Please tell me how I can invest in this! Give me your address and I will send you all my money to invest into funton research!!! I was particularly impressed with the red capitol letters, enlarged writing and bold type. How can anyone think that you haven't solved the worlds energy problems after reading your post. You are amazing!
  2. Those pictures are great - I really like Stevie Wonder!

  3. well I'm glad that's cleared up then - I was worried at first.
  4. If it had been sitting there for a year then it could have been biological contamination. You may have injested some nasty bugs which made you ill. Again, to echo the above - tell the doctor exactly what happened.
  5. Cap'n Refsmmat had the answer no? Assuming you put the brackets in the right place.
  6. I'm not sure I know what you are talking about. But here is an equation about the folding paper: L = pi t/6 (2^n+4)(2^n-1) where: L = length you need to fold a piece of paper of thickness t a number of n times.
  7. So in essence then, we can have nuclear powered submarines but not spacemarines....... yet, anyway.
  8. If you DID find the answer you could make and market universe shaped doughnuts or jelly sweets in universe shapes. People would buy them for sure! You could charge a few pence/cents more than ordinary shaped sweets just because of your funky universe shapes! Every kid would want them!
  9. I know very little about it - but I would think that realising that you are going through this is a good first step. Some people keep themselves in denial about such things. You have realised you have a problem and want to do something about it. That has to be a good start. Go to the doctor and see what he says.
  10. This is going round in circles now - they've mentioned the earth already - it is not perpetual mothion. Magnetic fields? what about them - to get electricity you have to MOVE through them to generate a current - that movement TAKES energy, which YOU have to provide. Anyway - they are not unlimited - eventually the alignment of the nuclei gets messed up and you have to re-magetise again. This was GCSE physics if I remember back that far. I've got a tourch which needs no batteries!!! You shake it up and the magnet that oscillates through the coil charges it up -- it's really cool. But I am the one that provides the energy in the form of the shaking. It's not perpetual! Let's see your design so we can test it for you.
  11. I belive you when you say you've made some kind of efficient generator which runs VERY efficiently. But I bet it needs fuel? It won't be a completely self contained device which runs forever without the need for any additional imput of fuel/energy into the system. It won't give an endless supply of free energy. This is because it is impossible. Please let us know how YOUR machine works as I'm sure it will be really interesting - but it won't be perpetual motion.

    Help

    There are 4 equations of motion which allow you to solve any of these problems. Look up 'the equations of motion' on the internet: s= ut + 1/2 at^2 v = u + at v^2 = u^2 - 2as s = 1/2(u+v)t where: u = initial velocity (at t = o) v = velocity at time t t = time s = distance a = accelaration. Use these and some logic to solve your problems.

    What is this pic?

They haven't disclosed last weeks yet as no-one got it. This weeks (Site was down friday) is this:
  14. just a note to add that it happens with Hydrogen rather than larger molecules due to the lack of shielding of the nucleaus in hydrogen - because there are only inner shell electrons, the molecular/atomic radius of the molecule is small so the electrons involved in the bonding from the other atom are closer and more effected by the hydrogen nucleus. As we go down the table, the radius of each atom increases and has more 'layers' os shielding electrons which weaken the effect from the nucleus. I essence, it mainly happens between hydrogen and strongly electronegative atoms such as oxygen and chlorine. ............................................................................................................................................... Yes, that happens - in H2O for example the electrons that would normally be assosciated with the Hydrogen will be drawn into the outershell of the 'electron greedy' oxygen stabilizing the outershell. It also happens on a benzine ring - the electrons on the hydrogen are drawn into the conjugated structure of the benzine ring. The hydrogen is considered to be electron donating and the ring is considered electron withdrawing. Thus - the hydrogen nucleus ends up with even less shielding round it and forms the strongest types of hydrogen bond.
  15. That is exactly how I lernt it as well! We counted the places the dots 'jumped' - and acually marked their little jumps with a pencil above the figure - I wasn't sure how to explain that in writing but you seem to have done it quite well moo.
  16. That's right!! you've got it. so in standard form they would be: 1.37 x 10^8 to 3sf's and 1.365 x 10^8 to 4 sf's.
  17. Well - what are the two most prominent figures here? You'll have to round up in this case to the nearest whole number in the second figure. So - you have 136 million 500 thousand. That rounds up to 140 million using the two most significant figures no? (the 1 and the 4) You then have 140,000,000 which in scientific notation, or standard form, gives you 1.4 x 10 to the power of the number decimal places need to get 1.4 back to 140 million. Which is eight decimal places if you count them... So 136,500,000 = 1.4 x 10^8 to 2 significant figures in standard form. So with that in mind boox - what would it be to 3 SF and 4SF? (PS - you ony need to ask the question once...)
  18. MRI for the brain and a map, TV or witnesses for China... I've never seen the inside of a mouse though. Perhaps they are hollow - I doubt it, but I don't want to be considered crazy.
  19. I was quite supprised that YT didn't show on anyones list after our own in-forum poll, but hey.
  20. Heston Blumenthal freeses his ice cream with liquid nitrogen - if you have access to it then it's supposed to make the best ice cream. You just pour it into your ice cream mix and stir - the fast freeze makes VERY small crystals.
  21. My mate was trying to print a thesis out once on an inkjet that was starting to run out of ink. Not wanting to waste money buying a new cartridge for a few 10s of pages we took out the cartridge and shookit 'downwards' trying to get any ink in there that may have been clinging to the sides down to the bottem of the cartridge, where it could be used. This worked a bit. Then I thought that if we heated the cartridge up with a flame on either side, the ink viscocity would decrease and teh stuff would floww to the bottem of the cartridge upon shaking alot easier. This worked well. So - when it does finally look as though the cart is running out - take it out, heat it up with a lighter on either side, and then shake it (flicking it downwards to wards the heads - trying to project the remaining ink towards the bottem) - it'll be good for another 50-100 pages or so. You can repeat this several times!
  22. I took the test: Barack Obama 79% similarity / Ralph Nader 68% similarity / John McCain 66% similarity
  23. oy, you! fat cat! NO!!! You can't have any more cash! It's gone! Put it back!
  24. We are paying £37 Billion to bail out the banks. The wunch of fat cat city big bosses took £17 Billion as bonuses last year out of the, so called, profits. Can't we demand our money back!!! "Dear fat cats - you ****ed it up! We want our £17 Billion back so that the banks can keep running without us having to bail them out. You'll just have to make do with the hundreds of thousands of pounds you get in your basic yearly paycheck. Give us back our money!"
  25. I saw a documentry once about the brain. Bascule was right - "The structures most involved with memory are the neocortex and the hippocampus." The hippocampus is the twirly bit on either side of the brain. Would this mean Twylek's from star wars have really good memories??
