For a deeper dive into how the probability of a state depends on the number of allowed microstates, see the first part of this video. The rest of it goes on to describe how the 'arrow of time' emerges, from an estimation of the early universe's entropy, compared to the possible maximal entropy.
  2. A very useful mathematical tool. ( as are all other theories which portend to describe the workings of 'reality' ) What is the matter with the SFn servers lately ? They are extremely slow to respond and sign in. And just now, caused a doubled post.
  3. The 'forever chemical mentioned by KJW, PFSA, was the topic of an excellent Veritasium video. Check it out for pertinent information
  4. I don't have a problem with women being 'promiscuous'. Why are men allowed to be 'promiscuous' but women are not? Why have double standards ? And why the assumption that being 'promiscuous' means consent ?
  5. There is no reality until an observation/interaction is made. You, nor anyone else, can prove otherwise. Think about it ...

Ooops ... Forgot the 6 factoral when editing my last post. I guess we have it a little better with only 49 numbers to choose from, but the average prize is only 5 Million Canadian ( not real dollars ) in 'Lotto 6/49' lottery.

Actually ... The chance of winning or losing is 1/2 ; you either win, or you lose. The probability of winning by choosing the correct 6 numbers out of 49 choices is 6! / ( 49 - 6 )! which is approximately 1 in 14 Million. ( x-posted with String junky and Sensei )
  8. It should also be pointed out that most of these now grown women are not coming forward and identifying their molesters, or Epstein, because of what happened to him. Why would they endanger themselves in interviews ? Why do you think that G Maxwell is serving 20 years ( albeit in in a resort setting rather than a jail cell, thanks to Trump's lawyers in the DOJ ) rather than naming names ? Do you really think there was a 2 minute glitch in the jail video recorder, or that the security guards happened to be sleeping during those 2 minutes, so he could commit suicide during those 2 exact minutes ?
  9. I would go one step further than the other members; not only is the wave function NOT real, but there is no actual reality until an observation/interaction is made to collapse the wave function. This concept is called 'no local realism' and is an alternate ( and preferable' explanation for entanglement than 'non locality'. As a scientist, I defer to the evidence. Varying outcomes can occurr, but they are not random. The preferred outcome is still governed by scientific principles , like Least Action.

The math is not very complicated; it involves factorals, depending on the quantity of numbers to choose, and the quantity ti choose from. I do play the lottery, but I've heard it best described as a tax on the poor.
  11. I can dress warmly. But what do you do when your government shoots you in the face, or throws you in a van before shipping you off to El Salvador ?
  12. Probability Amplitudes are an interpretation of wave function information, and are complex valued numbers which, when squared and MOD, represent the actual probability of an event. Similarly, Wave Function collapse is interpreted as the mathematical process of extracting information from the wave function by applying an operator, which usually corresponds to an observable. The resultant eigenvalue generally corresponds to a new state. No one ( except kooks and cranks ) ever involve consciousness in the discussion.
  13. Not really a problem, but, more importantly, why would anyone go to Florida for their honeymoon ? So, is Netflix you preferred choice for News ?
  14. But it does for a 'far-away' observer, as we would be, watching the stellar collapse in Andromeda. Is that what you meant, Dim ?
  15. I will agree with @Sensei that the Epstein case is all over the News simply because of the connections with, and the efforts to obfuscate, by D Trump and his Administration. After all, D Trump, and anything related to him, is always in the news; not because he's a great statesman, but because he's a 'train-wreck', and every one wants to watch. However, I fail to see how a Netflix documentary from 6 years ago, is accurate, but the 6 year old news it is based on is falsified information, all the while disregarding the Trump Administration machinations to bury all additional information, which still isn't forthcoming. What exactly, are they trying to hide ???
