  6. I understand that, but for eukaryotes to evolve in the first place, there must have been someway to coax it into accepting it. However, i'm talking about singular cells, ex situ of the human body grown independently of the immune system.

This may sound like a strange question, but due to my lack of cellular biology I can't seem to determine the feasibility of such a question: Is it possible to inject chloroplasts into an animal cell and force symbiosis, and thus allowing it photosynthesize and respirate without forming cell walls and the big ass vacuoles that plants have? I also realized that the replication of the organelles require additional genetic information to be injected into various chromosomes, so any thoughts?

    Saliva contains the enzyme amylase, which is used in the preliminary stage of breaking down food. Urea is just a form of a nitrogen compound used during excretion of bodily fluids, if anything I would imagine Urea to be a by-product of an enzymatic reaction
  11. If you think about it, our gene pool is slowly being filled with more and more "bad" genes. Eye sight is one example, normally in a natural environment, hunters with bad eyesight who cannot see their prey tend to die off before they can reproduce. Humans on the other hand, who have the genes for bad eyesight, simply get glasses and pass this bad gene down to their children. I also have a friend who has 4 toes and a missing bone, normally in natural selection and evolution, he would be at a major disadvantage, but in the human case, it doesn't really matter. His chance of mating are almost identical to others as along as he has good looks. (Thanks MTV for destroying nature's natural process of selection,) By this I mean that we are no longer mating for the best genes, but rather for the best looks. A slim female for one, is no where near genetically viable as a plumper female, but pop culture has completely destroyed that trend and we mate for asthetic rather than practical reasons. In turn, this slow accumulation of crappy genes will take us to a critical point where medicine will be unable to fix these things. (Again, unless there is a dramatic progress towards gene therapy, which literally IMO is our only hope.)
  12. Due to advances to our buddy medicine, our rate of natural selection has greatly diminished. While viruses and bacteria, who are forced to adapt to our vaccines and antibiotics, are evolving at such a ridiculous rate it will be doubtful that our medicine could ever catch up with them. Notice that most of our medicine is used passively, with the exception of vaccines such us the flu shot which tries to predict the mutations and adaptations in the 3 RNA strands. Unless with the aid of gene therapy, which is still some ways off to being viable, our genes arent going anywhere in terms of evolution.

  17. one of the greatest problems with the oxymoronic term "viral treatment" is that it is hard to specify what the reverse transcriptase enzymes splice up, I've heard of an experiment in Paris that went bad and the patients recieving the treatment ended up with leukemia

  20. I know that, but there is an inherent greed within us. Once genetic engineering becomes privatized and business-like, i some how doubt i can be optimistic in the human race
  21. ever read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley or Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. I wouldnt be so keen on genetic engineering if I was you. edit: you can call them fiction if you want, but they nevertheless represent frightening dystopias
