  3. So agar powder alone has enough nutrients? if so, why does nutrient agar also exist?
  4. However, it seems like they own a piece of molecule that they didn't necessarily create and could even occur naturally. So if they have the patent for a certain sequence for a certain organism, does it also give them the right for the same sequence that might exist in other organisms?
  5. There are millions of synapses at working every second, even as I'm typing these. And Neurons generally transmit information through electric signals, so I suppose that might be the reason as to why it requires large amounts of energy.
  6. The patenting situation is actually starting to get out of hand, since IIRC, the company Celebra (i'll double check when I get home) has even patented a segment of the human genome. Now exactly how do you copyright a piece of double stranded ribonuleic acids that could be present in the trillions of other organism?
  7. Well this summer i got a position as a volunteer lab assistant with a someone that has a post-doc in virology... so any ideas as to what kinda cool stuff I should do?

  12. Anyone know where to find lab protocols involving transgenic animals? Specificially pigs designed to simulate human organs?
  13. Even if it was technically possible, crazy right wings and religious groups wouldnt allow it for the heck of it. But interesting read...
  14. Please... thats putting it to extremes, I can say White Americans like to skin little girls in various suburban parts of the country and it would be the same thing.
  15. I'm not sure if any else has noticed this, but lately more and more companies are rising and raking in huge profits for medical services. Thus resulting in the term "medical-industrial complex". However, some ethical question arises from this: #1. Should drug companies be allowed to raise the cost of the drugs to whatever they want? Even say millions of people depend on the drug? #2. These drug companies are essentially the only thing keeping millions of people alive, should they really be allowed to decide who lives and who doesn't based on socioeconomic factors? #3. Can a company refuse the release of say a cure for cancer simply because it wants to hold on to the cure until more are affected? #4. Should hospitals really be class-ically biased? meaning better healthcare for someone like Bill Gates simply because he has more money, and substandard treatment for the poor? My 2 cents...
  16. I'd like see some of your sources for your theories as for mine... check out the millions of evolution periodicals available at your local university or internet.
  17. however, if there are individual nerves responsible for each type of sensation, are there any documented experiments where an animal can respond to a cold stimuli but not a hot stimula?
  18. its either a client or server problem.. so try moving the servers =P
  19. I dont think you can really apply the metabolism of dead bodies to live bodies... the case of the dead bodies might be because...its decomposing?
