Speed is distance over time. If time is slowing down when you approach the speed of light, then essentialy you are moving at a slower speed.

Could a large amount of gravity ever be stronger than electro magnetism? I.e the force that stops gravity pulling my ass through my chair

I dont know what i find more unbelievable. Getting to mars by 2010 or the fact that someone actually listened to something bush said. I doubt we will be on mars by then. I remember someone saying a round trip to mars could take a few years. Thats a lot of fuel, supplies and tiolet paper chaps.

What? I dont know a lot about relativity but all I saw in that animation was just some simple maths. Lets just say ClockA is displaying valueA and ClockB is displaying valueB The reason the astronauts got the same average value from the clocks was because when you get further away from say clockA; you are seeing a lower valueA than the other guy who is sat right next to it. But that doesn't matter because when you get further away from clockA, you of coarse get closer to clockB and you will see a higher valueB than the dude who is sitting miles away next to clockA. I hope that makes sense to someone but its too late and i need some sleep and Im sorry if someone has already explained this earlier on in the thread but I cant be arsed to check right now.

Thats more of a philosophical way of thinking. Fair enough the opposite of death is life but you have to be able to define life before hand to understand what death isn't.

I cant see a mars colony springing up for a while. I reckon a colony would weigh quite a bit and fuel prices at the moment are far from cheap.

the best one I saw was made of 28 individual tiles which were about 3000x3000 big. I put them together once and it took about 3 minutes to load. Very high res though... Go here and look around. That picture makes sense, i never really looked at it like that. Nicely explianed duderino. It beats the old "because it's further away" theory.

This has been bugging me for a while now, but does anyone know why things look smaller when they are further away? I asked this about a year ago but I wasn't satisfied with the answers I was getting. Someone told me it has something to do with lenses. but I dont know whether thats true or not. Does anyone have a decent scientific reason as to why this occurs?

Does time have to actually exist? I dont think the presence of the 4th dimention is essential to the existance of our universe. Maybe the universe is just made up of mass and movement. If time was a dimention and an itegral part to the universe then surely it could be manipulated.
