I've just been skimming through the thread and i found pogo's 'god bless america' attitude kind of funny. "American reality" aswell; great material, i gotta write this stuff down. The thing is, I was never threatened by sadam. I diont think anyone was. To me he was just a dictator. Fair enough he was an asshole but just because he has weapons, that doesn't mean he is gonna randomly attack america. He's not stupid. Pogo said that there is nothing wrong with defending your country but wasn't saddam doing that anyway. Stop whining!

I dont think it matters if something values its life or not. There is plenty of humans who dont value their life. And they end up blowing them selves up and stuff.

That doesnt really answer the question though does it. Just because there is a bunch of elements and chemicals lying about the place, what suddenly made them start working together in such a way. What i was asking was; Why did a pool of warm water millions of years ago just suddenly spring to life. Its no good just saying the conditions were right.

I said this in another post but surely america has weapons of mass destruction and they are the ones who use them the most. I've got nothing against america but im sure they could launch something against old blighty within 45 minutes. and who would retaliate for us, the french? I understand sadam is a twat but he isn't stupid, he wasn't gonna wake up one day after a night of mars bar and egg binging and say "Ill launch some of them weapons the americans gave me" That would kick start a bit of a tiff. I think countries have a right to have military power. And its no good saying he was an evil dictator because i think Stalin was aswell and he treated his people like shit. But we all loved him when he pretty much won the second world war for us didn't we?

I think you can win a war by bombing, but its messy and boring the americans try to all the time. The second world war ended with the atomic bombs. i think its safe to say that you can win a war by bombing

Im dont know much about what happend in leningrad, i know the germans cut supplies of to the russians and lots of people starved to death but if the Germans had bypassed stalingrad like they planned, maybe the war would have been different.

Isn't that the only time an atomic/nuclear weapon has been used? Pearl harbour was one of the best attacks ever performed in the bloody war if you ask me, wooden cased torpedos... great idea. What about africa, italy? There was some heavy fighting in Italy, market garden was bigger than D-day landings

I think old bomber harris had the right idea when he said you can win a war through bombing. And in a way the war did end with a big bang in the pacific.

I was having a discussion with some people from work about what the turning point in world war 2 was. It was started by an american guy saying "We saved your ass, if it weren't for us blah blah blah" Which to an extent i agree with but you must admit, the allies just about scraped through. If the nazis followed us across the channel after dunkirk then what would have happend? Would the Russians have still beaten back the nazis? If it hadn't have been for the americans, we would of had it. If it hadn't been for the russians, I don't think the nazis would have been defeated. What do you lot think the most significant point of the war was?
